I just saw this on www.macrumors.com

Very cool. I think I am going to buy one when they come out on Monday.

According to this (http://www.thinksecret.com/news/newipods.html) they said it might be even cheaper than the 3g ipods. That would really help me out.

Those are some ugly glasses.. Maybe I just lack excitement for another revision of the iPod. Maybe they worked on audio quality.

According to Think Secret (http://www.thinksecret.com/news/newipods3.html) the new ipods will be

*1 mm thinner (whoppie doo)

*12 hours battery life (thats really good)

*Will feature a $100 reduction in price (20 gb model is now $269)

The new iPod models also include "more efficient menus," such as a top-level "Music" entry and single-click shuffling of music libraries; users can also create multiple on-the-go playlists and delete individual songs from them. In addition, the story says that audiobooks are easier for users to find and can take advantage of features that play audio at slower or faster speeds while maintaining natural-sounding playback.

Hmm.. I'm going to have to go play with these at the apple store. If they're any better, I may have to sell my (very new) iPod on E-Bay and get a new one. Hmmmmm.

Does anyone know if these new iPods are windows compatible?

Brandon Martus

The current ones are, so I'd assume these are.

It'd be a really bad business move to make them NOT Windows compatible, so I'd assume they are as well.

I assumed so as well, just want to make sure before I put that on my wish list.

Plus the new ones will have 60 gig, if not the launch ones, right after launch (like before Xmas)

i hope to get one soon. i really like how convenient they are.
my friend on my robotics team has one, and whenever i could, i'd steal it and listen to it while i worked.
he'd always yell at me, saying "what're you doing with my iPod?!"
funny stuff.

Now this will really be the test if the iPod and the iPod mini are hitting seperate markets. There will only be a $20 difference between the 4gb iPod Mini and the 20gb iPod.

I just have one question, how do you scroll? Won't you hit the buttons?

If the scroll wheel on it is anything like the 3g iPod like I have, it's a very sensitive touch pad. The slightest pressure around the wheel will make it move. For the buttons it takes a greater amount of force in that specific area to click the wheel to the top, bottom, left, or right. I've never used an iPod Mini and have never seen one so I'm not quite sure what the click-wheel is like.

I'd love to be one of the new Duke freshmen getting one on arrival, though :)

Another piece of the iPod announcement today...:D

The wheel actually clicks IN where the buttons are. And yes, I would love to be a Duke Frosh too, too bad my grades arn't that good!

The ipods were on the cover of the business section of the miami herald today, reald the article here...
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/business/9193201.htm?1c
And theres a little blurb about a company here in miami who will load music and organize it on your iPod...man, rich people can be lazy.

To respond to a few things...

No there aren't 60GBs... Apple denies that they're doing ANYTHING with 60 HDs, but they've already placed an order for a bunch.

The $100 less isn't real.... yeah, it's less but comes with fewer accessories: no case, no remote, etc... they're all optional now.
---
Here's another cool feature of the new pods: USB charging!

As for me, I don't think its worth it to sell my kinda-new ipod for this... it's not better enough.

I'm just waiting for the new iMacs.

Alright so here is the deal I am getting my FIRST paycheck on friday and I think I am going to go to the Apple Store that night and pick one of these suckers up.

I have been thinking about that one thing I want to buy this summer and I have been thinking iPod (and the release of the new iPod is just good timing). I think I might miss the remote but not the case.

I will let you know how things go.

*edit*

iPodlounge.com got a 20gig, and seems like all Apple Stores are now saturated with the new iPods, but they are flying out quick! Here's some photos...

They'll have a review up soon.

I bought mine on the Apple Education Store Online. It is $269 plus tax (no shipping charges though). It is scheduled to ship today, I hope.

Also I got mine name engraved there for free. So if you want an iPod the best place if the Apple education store.

I just recieved my new ipod today and love it. I've heard a lot of complaints about the interface etc. , but I have to say I really like the clickwheel. Another odd thing I noticed is the screen. On www.ipodlounge.com they said the new ipods would have a bluescale screen, but the one I got has a greyscale.

I got a 4G just over a week ago and I love it. The only complaint I have is that the thing is a freaking scratch magnet when ever its exposed, I accordantly let my ear phones get close to it and next thing I knew I had a nice scuff and a few scratches. I tried using a 3G before, but I found it kinda nonconforming with out clicks and such, so I really like the click wheel.

What they mean is that the backlight is really blue, almost purple.
The screen is normally regular.

It's funny how obsessed you guys are over how new they are...my friend had an early order of one of these months ago when school was still in session. ^^ She also got it really decently priced and engraved for free. It was pink. A lot of stuff like this you can get for better prices before it's out and there's a rush...

Yarr...I got my 3G at the beginning of June a 40 GB for something around 350 after coupons and such...and now of course they come out with a new, cheaper one. Note to everyone else: never go within 500 feet of a casino within my prescence.

Heres what I did with my ipod to keep it scratch free. In an instance where it gets really hot (in my instance loading 1500 songs with USB1, put some suran-rap or simular and strech it over the back. It'll then form a sort of heat shrink after the ipod heats up/cools. I cut it around the back so well that I'm often not even sure if the suran wrap is even on there. Keeps the ipod nice and new...and is preety dang cheap.

Has anyone used that pyramid scheme to get a free iPod or Flat panel monitor/tv? I don't want to get into any trouble or anything for mentioning it here because I don't know if it's allowed, so PM me for details.

Thats crazy, those labels need to rethink. Firstly Apple doesn't encourage P2P networks, it says right on the wrap on the iPod (at least the 4G) "Don't steal music." in 4 different languages, and if they did even slightly encourage P2P that would mean they would loose some sales from iTunes.
Plus, when it comes to baning devices used for illegal music they would technically have to take away our CD burners because some boxes for the burners advertise burning music.
meh, odds are that bill is going no where.
