Well to me it looks like sand...and in one of the other pictures they were taking sand into the hotel. So I guess someone made a little mess.

It's sand, and lots of it. That trail is about 20 feet long. We used sandbags to prop the barrier around the field, which turned out to be a really good idea when we had controller interference and some robots were driven into the wall pretty hard by accident. Most people there had never seen FIRST robots and got way closer than I would ever get during a match. Luckily no one got hurt by the 'bots that night.

As far as I know the hotel people cleaned it up. We took down the field but... yeah... It was a very nice hotel. It was amusing. They wanted to see 'some action' and the robots fighting but they didn't want to robots to touch anything. Especially the huge mirrors that were next to the field or the wood work along the walls...
Since the sand was the only mess we made I think we did an excellent job!

What? they cleaned it up! :ahh:
They could have charged the people more by offering "beach front" rooms!

True...but yikes!
It's amusing though...as long as they don't get mad..it's their fault 'cause they wanted to see the robot in action! ;)

Wow, that just comes to show ya how FIRST's popularity is growing sooo much that people will do anything to see robots 'in action' !!! :D
Years ago no hotel would've cleaned up a mess like that as part of the service ... i'd be surprised if they didn't throw you off the hotel!! :yikes:
But right on, this is truly great ... spreading the message of FIRST -- no matter how hard the task (or therein relatively easy :p )!
