Since the 1and1.com servers give you SSH access, the easiest way is to follow this guide:

http://gallery.menalto.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=GalleryDocs&file=index&page=gallery1-install.unix-shell.php

Putty (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html) is a good SSH client, if you are using Windows.

Frequently, it consists of copying the files and opening the page. (In the case of MediaWiki and openFIRST) phpMyAdmin rquires that you edit it's config file. Check the software's readme/docs.

And PuTTY is excellent if it's over SSH/SSL.

Can you tell us what the software is, and how you're uploading? Or just IM me

the software i am trying to install is just called gallery (http://gallery.menalto.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=index) i am not set on that software. i would just like some software where i can upload via ftp photos and they will automaticly be put into a gallery with thumbnail view and options about resizing photos....i have seen the gallery software and i like the look but i am having difficuilty figuring out the instructions as i am not a software person
