Yup - you heard it here first. GM is producing a new Camaro - but the year to be released is AROUND 2007 - and it's been totaly redesigned with a V-8 6.0L 310+ HP. (Z28 package) Nawt bad.

The Dodge Charger R/T is going to have a Hemi in it - but which one? There are rumors that they are going to slap a SuperCharger on the 6.1 Hemi and put in the Charger. (I really hope that happens!)

But the new Dodge Charger should beat the Chevrolet Camaro by no streach of the imagination :D

These are just from drawings that have been leaked and the final production run of these vehicles will look similar to the ones shown below - but not 100% as shown below.

From a purely aesthetic view:

The Camaro looks nice! I love the mean looking grill and intake.

The Charger look s like every other dodge.
For me, the piece that sticks out the most is the grill/front end. My personal favorites include '71 Road Runner, '72 AMC Javelin, and '68 Mustang.
A sort of standard grill really takes away from the whole look.

But, I'm not much of a car buff.

I agree...the Camaro looks pretty sweet. Why did GM take it off the market for like 5 years if they had any plans to bring it back? I don't get it.

Thanks, but no thanks. Although I have turned into a MOPAR guy, I have deep roots in Ford.

I'll take the new 2005 Mustang over that Camaro, or Charger anyday.

The only thing it needs though, since it takes it's styling from the 69/70 Mustangs, is a shaker hood.

It's basically an air intake, which shakes as you rev the engine.

By the way, I have a 70 Mach 1 sitting right under me downstairs in my garage right now.
And a 65 mustang as well.

I'm glad to see the Camaro coming back. I've always liked those cars. My cousin had an 87' Berlinetta. Since the Camaro is coming back any word on it's twin the Firebird or the Trans Am version reappearing also? GM had basically handed the whole (American) market to the Mustang when they cancelled the Chevy and Pontiac competitors.

Now not to knock the Mustang, I own one.........see my who am i pic, but deep down (overall) I am a GM person.

Due to customer demands for new features and the new crash/saftey rules that are now placed - it would of costed wwaayy too much to reengineer and retool the plant that the Camaro was built at - and than keep the Camaro looking the same. All manufactures (yes - even outside of Vehicle Producers) do what's best economy wise and money wise.

It was just simplier to cancel the camaro for a few years, build a new place/retool an exesting place during thoes years, and totaly build a new design from the ground up with the new saftey ratings in effect to meet and than beat (future 'upgrades') verisons of the saftey ratings.

I mean, if I have to take sides, I'll take the Camaro. My roots lean more towards GM, seeing as my first car was an Olds (may the marque rest in peace). But both of those other two look just as pimp.

As for how the cars perform...well, we're gonna have to see, won't we?

Yeah, the 2007 Camaro looks real nice, but a mustang wins anyday. Although Mustangs are actually the only Fords I really like, and by "really like" I mean love with a passion. :)

You know, when I first saw the photos of the Camaro and Charger that Matt posted, I saw a definite resemblance between the new Camaro and the first generation one ('67-'69), but didn't see anything with the Charger. Now that I looked closer at the Charger I noticed several styling cues to the '69 and '70 models. It has the recesses in the hood and crease lines in the doors that resemble the 69/70's version. What would be neat is if they could give it hide away headlights and the R/T stripes across the trunklid like the original.

Side note: One of the members of the club I belong to has a '69 Charger 440 (nonHemi). It is a real R/T with original drivetrain and factory air. That is one large car........just a big as my Caprice wagon.

Keep in mind - ALL the muscle cars of that era where nothing more than family sedans with a huge engine shoved in them.

Look at the GTO, or the Chevelle, or as you said the Charger, or even in a RoadRunner.

The LS6 makes over 400 naturally aspirated. Modified with turbos (that's not stock, nor is it from GM directly!) it can do over 550. It's a 5.7 L engine. Even the 5.7 L LS1 makes 350 in a base Corvette, and nearly that much in an older Trans-Am or Z28.

I realise that. Same thing I thought - but than agian - there may be a better package than the Z28 that Chevrolet does not want to release due to the competition (Dodge's rumored 6.1 supercharged engine.)

I think Chevrolet has an Ace up their sleve that they don't want to share... (maybe a supercharged 6.0 - or even a supercharged LS1?! :yikes: )

That is the only image of that design of the Camaro.

Which way is Chevrolet (GM) going to go with this...Only time will tell. Personally I LOVE the 1st design and the 3rd. I wish there more images for the 1st design like the 3rd...:(

But the Charger would most likely put the Camaro to shame in a race.

However, the mustang with an shaker hood -- you can't beat that!

But overall, SWEET!! Those cars look awesome .. but like I've said before new sleek modern cars are just to modern for me ... call me old and antiquated but I like the classics -- which in this case it's not like it matters because the classics are the best when it come to cars anyway!! :cool:

the charger just looks like it has more attitude, when you look at the front. I just don't see it in the Camaro. But I'm a mopar fan so... i will always favor a mopar over any bow tie. :)

So this is what I get for not staying current with Chief Delphi posts...Anywhoo..those look reeal nice. The old school look is comming back..which isn't a bad thing. I'd drive either of those cars any day...but the supercharged Hemi sounds verry nice. . .

I have to say, I dig the old-school-turned-new look.

Of course, there's the big question--are these good for straight-line speed, or can they handle the curves as well? (For me, there's nothing like whipping around my neighborhood and all its hills and curves at the breakneck speed of...25 miles per hour. Hey, the law's the law.)

That's the juicy part.

Some of the articles that have posted these images (Trust me - I probably have read over 100 articles [yes - the whole thing]) and they claim that the BASE (yes - no typo) Charger will handle like the BASE C6 Corvette. (New 'Vette).

Now- if that's just the base - how in the heck will the (crosses fingers) 6.1 supercharged HEMI with the sport suspension handle?! :yikes:

Again - as soon as I drive one of the new Chargers (I have a good friend that is a mechanic at Century Dodge in Taylor, Michigan :D) I sware - I will do nothing else (besides grab a towel :D) and report back here ASAP. Just thinking about sitting in one makes me drool.

With some Intake/Exhaust/combustion chamber modifications/better suspension - can this vehicle be the sub-40,000 dollar Corvette Z06 Eater? Ooohhhh - I only hope, I only hope...

Chrysler has let me down. NO 2-door coupe. Just a 300C with a Dodge badging.

It will have the 6.1 HEMI - but no supercharger.

This is the biggest letdown that Chrysler has IMHO. I am very disapointed...

Petty Blue reminds me more of the Superbird.

Lime Green, Hemi and Vitamin C Orange and Purple, are more of the GTO and Barracuda style of things..

Ooh.. Flat black hood.. nice! At least they did one thing right.

Flat Black was a popular color for hoods back in the day especially in racing, because those long hoods that held them big motors painted with gloss reflected a lot of sun into the drivers' eyes. The Flat black minimized the glare.

I'm still extreamly upset with DC, that is by far one of their HUGEST letdowns...(ties in there with the new IFS WK)

Well I had to register to settle this one down. Every single photo that you have posted in this thread is a photoshop. It is blantently obvious that there is unrealitic shading, shapes, and styling that would definatly not be on a photo of an actual vehicle. If you would go to www.ls1tech.com we have been over this time and time again. Yes there is a camaro scheduled for an unnamed 2006 autoshow, and it should hit showrooms in 2007. BUT no one knows what it will look like, what it will perform like, and exactly what chasis it will be on. The General is keeping this under tight wraps for now. As for those of you who ask 'why would they kill it only to bring it back'. I say to you, that you are not true sports car enthusiasts. Think about it for a minute, all the hype that is being drawn up over photoshoped images and hopes of a new 'Maro in the shadows will definatly boost sales and will give GM a better and more sportier image. That is unless they mess it up like the goat. As for the firebird, it is dead with no way of being resurected....at least for now.

i love how ford comes out with the new retro t-bird a couple years back, and then the new 05 stangs, and now everybody is going wit the retro theme. basically, i think hte 2007 camaro will just be a retro- competition for the mustang, and it will probably cost more. chevy saw all the hype the 05 stangs caused, and now wants in on it. same thing for the new gto's. THEY COULDNT EVEN GET A NEW DESIGN! they jsut retooled a car from australia. seriously, they just use the name to make money. at least the stang has some of the same body lines.

oh yeah, and for anybody that loves em, i'll try and get some shots of my guitar player's dad's stangS. yes thats plural. 9 completely rebuilt and 3 more in the waiting. yes that was 9.

ford is the way to go. a crown vic with the police interceptor pacage will beat an 90's corvette in the quarter mile, and still run 140mph all day long.

You're trying to tell me that the chrysler 300C Hemi isnt retro? isnt the Hemi in its self retro? using a name....it technically isnt even a REAL Hemi, not that i care, i still think it is cool as hell, but if we are gonna get technical. and also, isnt stuffing a big engine into a rear-wheel drive four door sedan retro?

Hey now...

I'm talking about the retro theme look. The HEMI and Charger name have been brought back from the past - but NOTHING resembles the past...(The new HEMI isn't a true HEMI..), the car is a darn 4-door! The only things chrysler is bring back (and doing a good job at it) are the names, and the drive-train (Atleast for theirselves. FORD has always had RWD sedans...)

Chrysler > Ford > General Motors > Imports.

That's the way it goes...
