i would suspect we would get version 8.....i belive we got 7 last year
I hope we get Inventor 9. We're running 8 in class already and we were sent a trial of 9 a little while ago.

traditionally FIRST gets the version that is a year old...i think this is for 2 reasons.
1) less bugs in the program that people will have to deal with 6 weeks is a tight time period to design and build
2) less risk of piracy from the stand point of autodesk if they gave out thousands of copies of their newest software it has a higer probablity of getting ripped and put on bit torrent or some other file sharing tool compaired to an older verson which isn't as "cherry" in the minds of software pirates...arrrrrrrg

nah, pirated versions of software come out the day the software is released if not sooner.
I'd say the reason we get year old programs is because they are simply cheaper.

We have already gotten the whole Autodesk package for this year. It came with Inventor 8. I think all teams are supposed to get Inventor 8 with a 25 computer network license.

We also received the package. Like nukemknight said, it comes with Inventor 8 and 25 licenses for the program. It also comes with Auto CAD 2005 and a whole assortment of other Autodesk programs. It's a really nice package.
Is AutoCAD also a 25 desk license? I was under the impression that everything except 3ds is 25 desk.

Yes, all of the software that comes in the massive Auto desk package has 25 licenses. As for 3ds, I haven't actually seen it installed yet on our computers because the package came with Viz which is far superior.

I haven't installed the Inventor software yet from FIRST but my guess is that it is a regular version of it. On Friday at school they installed Inventor 8 educational version on all the network computers. With other software my guess is their is going to be a compatibility issue between the Educational Version and Regular version.
My question is:
1. Am I going to experience compatibility issues??
2. If so, Tips to possibly get around this??

Well, 3DS does not have the 25 seats. I hate to be a troll, but are you serious when you say Viz is far superior? :ahh:
