Let's see some of the new web designing talent the 2005 season brings. This is of course the successor to the 2004 thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23571), but since people are dying to showcase their work, it's best to post here rather than there now. The guidelines are to limit discussion as this is a showcase thread more than anything. If you want to discuss an individual site or some design element, or FIRST's rules for the award (which as of this post aren't out), start a new thread.

http://www.team1208.org/ is the site we had running on a whim over the 2004 season. It's powered by an aging PHP4-written backend that a friend and I hacked together (literally) in a handful of hours. The design was done by me and another friend over the span of several days. In retrospect, it's ugly, and the code sucks, but I (and evidently also the folks who judged sites at the STL regional) thought it was "okay" back in the day.
The one I'm working on in Draco (http://draco.boskant.nl/)/mod_python (http://www.modpython.org/) is at http://dev.team1208.org/ and runs on a couple of Celeron 700's at my house. I started earlier this year on settling on a decent page layout for the site so I could buy myself some time to work on and perfect the backend. For what it's worth, it's overly unfinished, but the page layout is there with some greeking applied.

I'll be adding a lot to it over the Holiday Break, but there is a good amount to look at as of now. So have fun!

http://hhsrobotics.circuitrunners.com is my baby and my team's website. I've still got plenty of work to do over this winter break, including updating with the new logo, and spicing up the design a bit, as well as any changes concurrent with the 2005 rules, but it works for now.

That is my teams website, i have put a lot of work into it, but there are still many problems that need to be fixed. Right now i am working on the Navigation Menu, and the Gallery.
It probably isn't the best design, but i plan to go for more content than design, however, i don't have hardly any content on there, sigh, sadness. :(

Redesigned for the new year and ready to go!.. We have over 1000 pictures and media that is either uploaded or scheduled to be uploaded in the next few days..
Our domain appears to have lapsed, so Monta Vista Robotics (team 115) is currently at http://mvrt.wellnow.net/
Hopefully we'll actually get a domain sometime soon.

We're adding 2005 content and re-writing much of the code to support mySQL.
This year would be the first time in about 4 years since our team put the effort into the website. We made our own php and mysql database as well as made it html and css validated. The first logo hasn't been changed yet and some of the links aren't up yet though

This is my spawn. The layout is partially stolen from a free layouts site, but I modified it quite a bit. For one, I added a second iFrame for the navigation bar, so that it could scroll independantly, I plan to add more pages some time.
Send feedback to webmaster@team839.com please! ^_^

Despite some rather major logistical setbacks (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33838), we got our site back up and running during the season. Thanks to all the people that stepped up and added content and resources for 2005. We're determined to stay a great team resource this year. And hard work paid off; our site won the award at a regional level for the third time -- in the current award's two-year existence -- at Waterloo.

Good, except that intro pages are always annoying and slow down each visit to the site.

The frame at the top could be a little bit smaller. It makes the main frame harder to see and navigate, and takes up too much room. Otherwise, it looks great-- simple, easy to navigate...

I think the site definetly has some good starting potential, couple things though.
- Try to keep the same color scheme. I personally like the gray pastel scheme, but if you have another favorite go with that. Just don't try to mix gray with the yellow header and the blue text, etc. (Maybe a pastel blue, like the one in the FIRST topsite button would work)
- Disable javascript in your browser and see what happens. The entire navigation bar dissappears. Try to detect if the user has javascript enabled, if they don't display a normal nav bar.
could I ask ' jonathan lall ' whom i really respect for what he had done with their website to give us his opinion about our website ?? (team909.com)

(but please ... I know that our XHTML coding has problems)
appreciate itWhy thank you. But big ups to you for a great site.
As we aren't dealing with coding, my only perhaps worthwhile (and subjective) criticism is that I normally don't like intros that take more than ten seconds and/or have sound, but this is a decision you have to make. The intro itself is rather well-made so I would keep it. If you like that setup by all means go for it... though the multitude of links on your splash page are a little too confusing and numerous. You go from a black screen with a gazillion different fonts and colours, to the rest of the site.
But the layout is simplistic, easy on the eyes, and follows a consistent theme (with the exception of the splash). Navigation is a breeze, using two sets of tabs, which is a great way to go. Also, I like the way you have a database-based news system set up with comments and such. Your site follows a lot of the philosphy I follow, and that's why I rather like it. I'm impressed that you integrated your forum and gallery into the site's CSS-based layout as well.
Your site is really good, and there isn't much you could do to make it better. Seriously. Congratulations on your website award, it was clearly deserved.
WOW !
I didn't think you would answer this fast (or even at all)
anyway thanks for the comments and tips ...
about that "splash page", I'll see what I can do ...
thanks again

"May be under construction"Hi Ben and welcome to ChiefDelphi. :)
I like the site's appearance. The only thing I notice right now is that the main page content only goes part of the way across the page, while the header goes all the way. It's a personal preference thing, but I would change it so both are the same width. (Full width or partial doesn't matter.)
I like the "Guide to FIRST" page. :)

A bit late in the whole posting thing, but oh well, our current site is at http://www.blarglefishdev.com, with the exception of graphics, it's pretty much done for the year since I have to start teaching the new people how to program robots from now until kickoff so we can get some work done. Our website uses my favorite language, Java. It was a lot of fun to learn how to learn all of the JSP stuff and it's a cool language so I'd definately recommend it to... everyone.

Hello Everybody!
Decided to finally stop messing around with our site and get back to posting on here...
Team 818 Steel Armadillo's (http://www.usfirst818.org) Is a work in progress...Took me a while to find somthing that looked good, but I think I have it! Its been slow working as I'm the only one on the web team this year... Its a template made by me in CS2, Uses CuteNews for News (and RSS feed), The forums (which are barely up, I have no time to write the rules and such!) are done with a package called Simplemachines by www.simplemachines.org. IMHO much easier to use compared to PHPBB2 and or Invision... Less load on the servers and much easier to customize!

IMO, Too much brushed metal, I suggest centering your content, with the bg of that in brushed metal, bevel the edges on the sides, and make the real bg white/black/a solid color.... Otherwise it looks great!

Since many teams usually begin working on their new websites around this time of the year, a Web Competitors 2006 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40358) thread has been started. Since this thread was started for last year's website competition, which has come and gone, continue posting all new websites for the 2005-06 season there. :)
