Does anyone have a gear box design to join a Chip motor and a Drill motor? What I'd really like to see is a model of it in Inventor.

Here ya go. (http://www.csupomona.edu/~dwblack/TrannyOnly.zip) This is what 696 ran with for the 2004 season. Team 980 used the same design as well.

Credit goes to Team 716 for the (2003) design. Credit goes to me for modeling it in Inventor and (what I believe to be) improving it. Credit goes to the Cybersonics for the beautiful model of the drill motor, gearbox, and mount. And last but certainly not least, credit goes to Ed Sparks of www.firstcadlibrary.com for the gears and Chiaphua motor.

This was made in Inventor 5 so it should work for everyone however when I made it I was not very good at Inventor so some of the constraints may not like each other.

This is our drive system that we borrowed from 25. It's very fast and very powerful using a cim and a drill. It's a little big but if the game involves power and speed it will definitely be something to consider. I made some revisions to the TechnoKats 2003 shift-on-the-fly transmission so that it works with an optical encoder (modeled in inventor). Right now, theres no drill on it because theyre swapping it out supposedly this year. IM me if interested (theres also no welding necessary on this one).

you can look at some of our gearboxes that we have designed. we have designed (modified from other teams) gearboxes for a chip/drill/fisher drive train, and chip/drill drive train.. alos make sure to check out JVN personal collection of robots and gearboxes while you are there! its really interesting that he has all of these pics. www.team229.org

I saw something very different yesterday as I was messing around on the web. One team had two chips on one side and two drills on the other. I kinda liked it. I would love to hear some feedback from 61 or any other team that has done that. Andy B. what's your two cents on this if u please when you get a chance and any other input on this from others is appreciated . :cool: THANKS!!!

I would not recommend that. It would be very uneven; one side would either go faster or push harder or both.

121 did this more than once I believe and it seemed to work fine.

As mentioned earlier, the white papers on this site have some great gearboxes that combine the CIM and Drill motor. The trick is getting the drill motor down to a speed that is similar to the CIM motor. Usually, this is done with reducing the speed of the CIM about 3.6:1, as that is the ratio of the free speeds.

With a good CIM/Drill combo gearbox, you can drive your robot fairly fast with the power available. Many robots have used this setup and gone 11-13 feet/sec with ease.
