The FIRST VIMS (Volunteer Information Management System) is up and running, and I think most regionals have great volunteer opportunities available.
Recruit yourself, parents, teachers and others to volunteer for a nearby event - it gets them into the FIRST spirit and helps the planning committee to know early that the key positions will be filled. Experienced FIRST people help an event run smoother.
I am especially recruiting for the BOILERMAKER Regional - I am the Volunteer Coordinator and would love to see lots of familiar Chief Delphi faces wearing FIRST Volunteer shirts at Purdue.
Sign up now - there is an easy link from the FIRST Website.
PS - Maybe one of the moderators could even add a link to the FIRST volunteer page to this post - and make it 'sticky' - since I have no clue how to do either of those tasks.

I'm already in there for VCU and Annapolis. Havn't heard anything.
Sorry I can't help out at Purdue Chris, if I do travel to a regional it will be to Atlanta. The whole college student lacking money thing. :-/

Yes, this is an old thread, but it still applies.
The 2006 VIMS system should be up and running by the end of this week. If you are going to a regional or there's one nearby, all regionals will need your help!
There is not an active link yet, but it will apparently be under the section "For Volunteers" on the www.usfirst.org website.
Thanks,

VIMS will be up and running on November 4th. Be poised and ready to submit! Oh, and sign up to volunteer in Boston. I have plenty of floor space available in my apartment ;) .

Does anybody know when VIMS will be up? I check daily on the FIRST website to see if its up.

Then you will likely be the one to tell us.

There will be an Email blast when it's up - and you can bet it will be posted. Soon grasshoppers.... soon.... (we hope)...
Edit: I just noticed there's a VIMs site now

VIMS is up and running!
I went to delete my secondary address (last years dorm room) and it is now hung up and won't let me leave them blank. It shows my contact info as incomplete. Bother.

When will FIRST contact us to volunteer? Has anyone yet been contacted.

You should be contacted by interested Volunteer coordinators in the coming weeks to confirm any positions you are being looked at for. I would suggest you to contact the regional volunteer coordinator(s) if you have questions or would like to follow up on a volunteer request that you submitted.

For individual events the volunteer coordinator for that event should contact you. As for the background check (if you didn't do it last year), if the same holds true from last year it will be a month to two week before the event you are supposed to work.
If you are really curious about the status i would try contacting the volunteer coordinator for your regional, although alot depends on the position you have applied for. Announcers, Field Managers, and higher positions are probably already assigned but things like field reset will probably be dealt with down the time line a bit.
*i am not inferring that one position is more important then another and recommend that if you haven't volunteered you should defiantly do so.
Volunteers are still needed at many of the regional FRC events and also at the upcoming Vex events. You can select which event you are interested in helping out at in the VIMS system.

With all the new regionals, there are lots of opportunities for volunteers.
I know there are a few openings still for Boilermaker Volunteers - so students, alumni, parents, any and all - sign up now on VIMS.
Help make a regional great !

So who is volunteering at the NJ Regional? I will be at the Volunteer Meeting tonight, so come and say HI if you will be there.
I am helping with Team Queuing
I will be at LA Regional as Real Time Scorer, and if our team does well, Atlanta, working the FLL event.

VIMS is up and running!
VIMS has been up and running for a while for the following functions:
-Registration into VIMS
-Altering contact information
-Screening of volunteers
VIMS is not yet open for regional and role selection for the 2007 season, but will be soon. If you are a new volunteer, feel free to put in your information and register. You will have to go into VIMS later to register for specific events.
Thanks for watching this!

start here

make an account, and fill out all of the sections. Every persona will need to do their own account. You can also try and contact the volunteer coordinator for the buckeye regional.
As stated in this thread the system has not been updated yet for 2007 so you will have to log back in when it is uploaded and enter your preferences.

Has anyone heard anything reqaurding the VIMs and when it should be up?
Considering that the first regionals are more than three months away I'm not to pressed about it opening up soon. I'd be willing to bet that they will get better responses if they wait until the end of January or so to open it up fully.
That said, I've heard nothing other than to be patient. :)
Wetzel
I've heard from FIRST that you'll be able to designate an event and position the first week of December, though Wetzel is right that there's really no need to rush.
This is FIRST. They said that it would be up for September. They did not state what year.

It's great that everyone is so excited to volunteer, but in my experience, volunteer retention is highest when the number of actions to sign up is the lowest possible. I would rather have a complete, working VIMS that was released later than an incomplete VIMS open sooner that forces my volunteers to sign up three separate times. Once open, all you will have to do is go in once, select your event & role preferences, and you're done. Any more steps than that and I have lots of incomplete entries, frustrated volunteers, and open spots.
Because of this, I am more than happy to wait for VIMS to get to that point. Trust me, there's still plenty of events that need volunteers, and there are still spaces available!

... Trust me, there's still plenty of events that need volunteers, and there are still spaces available!Echo that. If you want to volunteer at an event, don't worry. Your friendly regional volunteer coordinators will not run out of opportunities. :)
