Hey guys... during JnJ regional, my team's sponsors told us that they'd give us a full ride to nationals... only problem: we didnt register before the registration date... we had no money, and, hence, no way to register for nationals. we're an even numbered team(30), and we won judges award at JnJ. anyone know if i can register, and who i'd have to talk to about it? Thx

What awards did you win? The Driving Tomorrow's Technology, Quality, Creativity, and Leadership in Controls awards all could qualify you for nationals. The other awards don't count towards participation this year, but could qualify you for next years Nationals. Go to the FIRST Championship eligibility guide (http://www.usfirst.org/robotics/res_art9.htm) to see if you qualify.

we won the judge's award. read your manual.
judges award is an award given to a team which the judges feel have gone above and beyond... basically, the judges gave us an award because:
1. we built our robot, not our engineers
2. we dont have a machine shop - we have a bandsaw and a drill press... we're deprived... lol
3. our bot works pretty well, excellent for being built by students

Yes, we know what the Judges' Awards are...
Sorry, dude. Only the 3 Regional Champions, as well as the winners of the Regional Chairman's, Quality, Control, Creativity, and Technology awards will get you to Nationals. Anything else only counts towards giving you points towards next year's qualification.
Well, uh.. ask your sponsor about funding next year's trip. :(

Well, I won't be so sure about that. The regional champions and technical awards will get teams qualifying for Nationals, BUT that's for teams who aren't qualified already.
Since they are a even number team, they are automatically qualifyed to register.... doesn't necessary mean they will get in, but they do have a chance.
Now, I guess it is kinda late for teams to register for Nats, but before regionals started, I believe there were some space left (I think). If that's the case, and since odd number teams who aren't qualified before regional are starting to win enough awards/regional and FIRST are adding those teams into Nats, I think it should be ok for them to ask.
They would've gone if they had the money in the first place... Just that now their sponsor is nice enough to give them money because they won an award.
I do kinda think they deserve to go since they managed to convince their sponsors to change their mind about giving more money to this robotics program. but that's just me.

Care to reconsider that statement. It is getting a bit much now..

Ken, I agree. It's cool that thier sponsors are paying their ride to nats. They would have been able to register because they are an even numbered team BUT since not enough even numbered teams registered, FIRST opened up registration to everyone (based on points from last year, etc.) and now all the spots are filled. :\ Guess it wouldn't hurt to ask though!

What you need to do is have the principal contact for FIRST (they are the person who did your initial registration) log into the FIRST team database. If you are going to be allowed to register it will show up there. They can then sign you up.

You reap what you sow. Be prepared for anything.
My team had no clue whether or not we were going, but we made the arrangements even if we decided to not go or simply not qualify (odd team and all).
