Okay. So I am using 3DS Max for the first time and I have done a couple of tutorials and dont have time to go through the whole book.

1. I have started modelling the playing field and how do I get the transparent look of the top alliance station.
2. How do I get the carpet to look exactly like what it does in the drawings/dave's animation? The markings i mean.
3. On the vision tetras how do I get the green lexan part to work right?

Thanks. I will probably have more questions as I begin the animation stage/ modelling of robot.

1. Press M and edit the material according to what you want (in this case, you have to change the Opacity).
2. You can do that using bitmaps or putting boxes according to the marking.
3. What do you mean?!

When modelling a vision tetra how would I make the green lexan piece? This is critical because it will be a crucial part in my animation. When I tried it it looks like this:

/\
/--\
[/ \]
/_______\

Understand? How do I make it so the lexan is not sticking out the side and it fits within the bars? It's kind of confusing.

And also. How do I use bitmaps to do that? Should I do it in Photoshop?

I think I've always used a raytrace material for see through glass, but I'm not sure, I'll post tonight when I'm near a computer w/ 3ds max.

ok. the thing i tried drawing up there didnt come out right. sorry. it was supposed to show that the corners stick out of the side.
how exactly will i be able to do the carpet in photoshop? should i just take a copy of the field drawing and fill in? or should i try really really hard to do it myself?

I think you are using a box right now for the lexan. If I am correct, try right clicking the box and hit convert to editable poly. Then go into the modify tab and select vet ices, moving them so that the corners no longer stick out.

btw, theres another thread on here, and someone has alreayd made a very good looking field... it would save u alot of time. all he asks is that u mention his name and team i believe.

if u want to go ahead and make ur own field... for the carpet try finding the rigiht colored carpet thru google and just diffuse it and perhaps add some effects?
