Hey all.
This is the field that i modeled for this year's Animation Competition.
Feel free to download it at http://metalmuscle.org : click on "3ds max"
Please, if you use this model in your animation (or any part of it) please give credit where it is due. Specifically, my name and team's in your credits.
Comments / Suggestions appreciated. It is a work in progress.

It told me that it is missing some files. field.png and FIRST.bmp.
Is it something I did or not included?
It's a very nice design. Thanks.

Great work, looks awesome. i specially like the modelling and the lighting makes it look even better. I would like to know how much time it took you to model.
If it is not asking too much can you please put a texture so the possible places for the Vision Tetras are visible. Thankyou in advance.

Thanks guys. It took the better part of 4 hours, two gatoraids, and some popcorn.
I fixed the issue with the images. Now, it's all there.
I'll try to get a separate version included with the placeholders for the tetras sometime tommorow. After classes.

Thanks Alex, it always saves us a lot of time to just be able to put the playing field in the animation and worry about animating/rendering.

Ok, I added a second file to the zip folder with the tetra starting places on it. I also fixed the vision tetras, they are now the correct colors.

Its a nice model and all, but 213,000 polys??????? tetras 3800 each??? geeeezzzz ............ thats gonna take forever to render with nice lighting, you should seriously cut it down to at 10,000 for the whole field at the most, its very possible. tetras alone are 93,000 polys.

I optimized the tetras so that the cylinders were 5 sided each which decreased render time. Also, it is just a skylight, no special GI or anything. The skylight is slow though, but you can tone down the shadow detail to greatly reduce rendering times.

heh, with a nice computer, things like that dont much matter to me. I am working on a lower rez version as we speak.
For reference, the images took me around 45 seconds to render. Pretty darn good for that many polys. :ahh:
