we have set up our camera, can grab frames, focused the camera, now how can we make code to make the robot go toward a color

The Innovation First web site has a section on programming (http://www.ifirobotics.com/rc.shtml#Programming) the Robot Controller. One of the files available contains the default code with camera control. Download it and study it; the comments are pretty good.
