We are using 9" dia knobby pneumatic tires with tubes. They will be mounted as close to the corners as possible. These will be very similar to what we have used in the past and can be found on a child's little red wagon or at an industrial supply store.
We will make a trade off for extra traction and shock absorbtion but will sacrifice some stability. There can be some robot rocking from the tires themselves as they compress under load. Rigid wheels with a rubber conveyor belt material have less grip but don't give you as much rocking.

My team. 399, is using 8in x 2in pneumatic wheels with a diamond tread on them. They give us great traction, and we put them far enough outboard that stability is not an issue for us.

294 crazy design is to have a six wheel drive, with 4-6 inch wheels for low-grav, and to have the middle wheel 1/8 inch higher to give a tighter turning radius

We are using two Skyway 10" x 3" pneumatic wheels (used 8" x 2" last year) with two of our custom design omni-wheels. Skyway has a very good selection, and offers special pricing for FIRST teams. You can get more info (although they will only provide the special FIRST info via Fax) at their website:

Another thread which should help.
let's say we are using our own tires, since we had to change them a bit.
they were solid rubber, and still are, but the rest is up to you

bought some 5" Phenolic wheels off of mcmaster cheaply. They're just cheap small plastic wheels with built in bearings. Then we're wrapping it in our own special concotion which is a secret. If that doesn't work though, we'll be going for good ole incline wedge belt or our inside joke, fabeled "orange stuff" (just really aggresive treaded rubber)
