Excellent!
Thats great news and I'm ready for another one
Awesome! Now I can start making plans...

Thanks for the advance notice, Chris! Time to start making travel plans for the best off-season competition of them all ;)
I did notice that it's a bit later than in previous years. Not that it matters, though. I'll still clear my calendar for that weekend!

Most likely, this time a Floridian is coming. I will grab Tytus on the way.
Thanks for letting us know this early, so we all have time to plan for it.

IRI is the best...what can I say, so 222 will most likely be returning** for the 3rd year in a row.
**I haven't checked with the superiors on the team...but chances are it is a go.

Theres a few things standing in my way to get there:
1. WPI Frontiers program better finish before this is over.
2. Convincing Cokeley to let us take the bot.
3. Stealing and transporting the robot when Cokeley refuses to drive out to Indiana.
4. Getting the funds for the drive/the eats/the hotel/yadda yadda yadda.
5....im sure theres more.
But if i get the slightest chance of going, i am most definitely there.

WOOOOOOO!!! I can actually go to IRI this year!! I was getting worried that my family vacation in Hawaii might get in the way. Hawaii then IRI, can't get any better than that folks! :D

Last year my brother (Wetzel) and I had a 50th anniversary to celebrate (our grandparents) but I do hope that I can make it this year. We'll see if the team comes or not, but I bet Dave is willing to make the trip again (maybe a free ride out there...if he doesn't take his Mustang...but shhh, I haven't asked him yet).

I dont know if 1083 is coming this year, i may. Keep the Talent show, or somthing like that.
IRI will hopefully be the first time I'll get to see the 2005 competition live (I'm studying in Prague this semester; leave mid-February and return first of July). I enjoyed my time there last year and it was part of the reason I convinced my team to go to west lafeyette for regionals. Hopefully an 1108 robot will be there to compete. If not I will most likely come volunteer again. It was fun.

It's possible to have a bunch of kids from RAGE this year!!! We made a deal with one of adults that if we did something he'd take us (he has a motorhome). But i really need to remember what it is.......i believe it's winning a medal. I'd like to come anyway, but it's all about transportation!

I hope to be able to make it again this year. I had so much fun last year. That's going to make it two trips to Indiana in one year. I might as well move. :D
Suggestions: DEFINITELY keep the talent show... that was one of the highlights of the event.
And be sure to book Dean Simmons and the Kamen Brother's again ;)
Eugenia Gabrielov
26-01-2005, 12:06
Heheheheh. I live an hour from IRI, yet, on those 2 dates, the only thing stopping me is a 7/8 hour time difference and the Atlantic Ocean.
w00t for Spain. But if for some reason I don't end up in Spain, I will go to IRI I promise! :)

Unfortunately, that conflicts with the Klingon Language Institute's 12th annual conference. I regret that I'll be out east at the time. Last year's IRI was glorious.

I would not miss this for much of anything, as it is a great time. I'll be there with my hardhat. The talent show will rock. Bring your best act, as I forsee a glut of acts who want to strut their stuff.

I second the Dean Simmons appearance....

I'll be there. I'm trying to talk the team into a summer vacation in Indiana, but so far, it's not looking too good. If the team does not go, I'll be available to help out.
IRI ROCKS
I want to be there, but I think that the date conflicts with a wedding I will be attending this year.
I guess I'll never make it to a midwest competition. :(

Kit, We will see you in Orlando in a week! We can make IRI plans
Tell the team it is only fair -
234 comes to Florida in MARCH.
233 comes to Indiana in JULY!

RAGE will be trying to make an appearence, the mentor Lisa wrote about in this post It's possible to have a bunch of kids from RAGE this year!!! We made a deal with one of adults that if we did something he'd take us (he has a motorhome). But i really need to remember what it is.......i believe it's winning a medal. I'd like to come anyway, but it's all about transportation! is my father, and the deal was rather easy, all the seniors and drive team has to do is know the robot like the back of our hand, which shouldn't be hard. Now to just convince him of this(oh, and get team approval as well(even easier)).
Lil' Lavery

As tyler already said, hopefully I should be there with my dad. With any luck we can convince 116 as a whole to show up this year and compete!

Kit, you can always feel free to come back as a "45er"! It would be like old times. (even though I wasn't around when you were on the team :) )
I definitely think the talent show is a must. I may be able to talk to Ozzy and Slash about making an appearance during the talent show... . I also agree that there should be no tooth paste spit stuff...I still feel sick from that! I will probably wear this phrase out but, Good luck too all teams at IRI (a bit early? yes :) )

I will apparently be at a wedding that same weekend.
A wedding ceremony could be another cool addition to the IRI festivities.
We've not done that.
The bride and groom could meet under the large tetra goal in center field.
We could have our MC perform the ceremony, and the referees be bridesmaids and groomsmen.
With the video set up, we could webcast on NASA TV.
Instead of rice, we could all throw tiny tetras at the bride and groom.
And, the IRI gets great rates at the OMNI, so the honeymoon could be a bargain!
This just might work..... :yikes:

Did I mention that we will already have a band!!!!
Think of the cost savings.
They could fund a new FIRST team with
the money they would have spent on a big wedding! :)

1. Team #447 will be there...as if...
2. We graciously offer "Dr. J" (our bot) to assist in any way...ring bearer, best man, airial photographer...he is 12' tall, ya know!
3. We are willing to help the Thunder Chickens cook breakfast again IF someone could buy a frying pan or two!
4. We would gladly put our good friends from #1458 up again...if they leave the toothpaste at the house!
5. Andy?...did I miss my call for the audition? I clearly stated back-up singer or groupie on the application.
6. Scott and Libbie...I hope you have more angus in the works!
7. To anyone coming in from the East Coast...we would be really happy to help host a clam bake or something if you bring some fresh seafood!
crab, crab, crab...we love crab
8. Could someone PLEASE post a countdown clock until IRI so that my students will quit asking me "How long to IRI?" and "Is it time yet?"
P.S. Go INdiana Teams!
Hey Marci,
How long until IRI?

Don't forget to consult with your band manager.
He is feeling somewhat 'left out of the picture' since you keep booking
these appearances and never sending him the appropriate 'management fee'.
MArci - I think for 5 grand we will let you sing with the band.

You are on, Jay. However, my luck at playing pool against 229 team members is not good. Chris and John tooled my dad and I at the 2004 kickoff in Manchester. I better start practicing.
I hope to see you at IRI, we can find a table somewhere.

Chris, the only reason i need permision is because i am a sophmore in highschool and will be flying alone (You know how parents are.) and i am taking Driver education over the summer, cars not robots,so i need to see if i can get out of that for a day. But seriously if i'm there it's on!

I dont think it could get much better!(maybe if you threw the Midwest Regional in there:D). Like i said, a kid can dream can't he.

Indianapolis is the only real airport in Indianapolis, there may be smaller ones but Indianapolis Int is the only one you going to be able to get a flight into.
its not very far from the event, i'm gonna say maybe 30 or 40 mins at most. (i'm completely pulling that number outa nowhere)

Its around 25 miles from the school to the airport and as long as its not rush hour between 5-6:30ish, you should be able to make the loop around I-465 in around in 30 minutes tops

If anybody in the general vicinity of West/Lafayette, Indiana wants to carpool with me for IRI, let me know....I know its early yet, but you can never start soon enough;) . Also, if anybody else without a team is interested in splitting a hotel room, let me know that too. I guess I technically live close enough to drive back and forth, but with the price of gas, a hotel room is probably going to be more economical. Not to mention more fun!
I missed IRI last year, and it sucked. I'll definitely be there this year!

Better idea - if you can't find housing, since many of the Indiana FIRSTers live outside of Indianapolis, I'm creating a threads to help people find hotel-mates, or to see if anyone needs a ride from the airport. :)
Yes, if someone who is organizing this can PM me, I have some questions since we've never attended before. Like, can we park the motorhome there or do we need to find a campground nearby? When does registration open? Etc.

I was wondering, since I am not going to IRI with a team, is there anyway my brother and I could volunteer?

Heck yes you can volunteer! At some time in the future, www.indianaFIRST.org will have a way you can submit what you want to volunteer for. In the mean time, you could private message Chris Fultz for more info on that.

When does registration open up?
I went to IndianaFIRST.org and the website hasn't been updated since late 2004.
Enquiring minds want to know....a least my mind wants to know

I'd like to repeat Wayne's question. When does registration begin, and is there a team list? I just checked indianafirst.org and the site appears to have been dormant for some time.

IndianaFIRST is working on lots of new content and a complete redesign of the indianafirst.org website. It will be online for the public very soon, a big part of the website will be the continued hosting of the web presence of the IRI robotics competition. Stay tuned for details.

Thanks Andy. We should know by the 16th. if we'll be able to attend as a team. I'll be available to help out if the Pink Team does not compete.

Awesome. Whether or not 573 and 830 are in attendance (hopefully they will be..), I'll be there :)

Yup, this is a semi-old thread, but I will bring it back to life by saying that I am going to be coming to the 2005 IRI, even though my team can't come (there was some sort of a mishap with registration). Before, when I thought my team would be coming, my dad and I booked plane tickets. But of course, AFTER I bought the tickets, the team announced that we wouldn't be going. :( But as it turns out, they are non-refundable or exchangeble plane tickets... so now I am going to IRI whether I like it or not (and of course, I am delighted). I couldn't go with my team last year, but this year, I am happy that I will finally be able to see the event which is hailed as one of the best offseasons in FIRST. Can't wait to see you all there, and good luck to all teams! A special thank you to all who have put together this offseason...it should be a great experience for all who attend!

Will anybody be up for the casual exchange of shirts?

Oh, great.
I am not that good. We have a foosball table in our house, and my 5-year-old daughter can take me on a good day. This is going to be swell.
I suppose you need to let the kiddies (including Copioli) win a few now and then.
Andy B.
Even though this is an old post, Andy, I challenge you to a foosball match (next time we meet)
