My team would like to use a screw drive from a garage door opener. Is that legal?

Do you mean just the screw piece, or the screw and motor? Just the screw would be legal, but the screw and motor would not.

btw, wath out cuz screw drives, mounted to CIMs at least, are flippin fast and even stronger. They are incredible for some applications though..

Thanks! We will not be using the motor, but we are going to be using the track that came with it. Is this okay?

as long as its not a foreign material, i think FIRST has a list (mainly radioactive stuff.) you should be okay.

There is no list. Just follow the parts usage flow chart. If you are still uncertain, post in the Q/A.

You should be perfectly fine. Check the "Parts Use Flowchart" in "The Robot" section of the FIRST manual to be sure, but I see no problem with using that part.
