I was wondering what teams other teams think are the most identifiable in FIRST? What makes these teams identifiable?

My votes go to
111
25

357

I'd say 47 is pretty identifiable, if for no other reason that this little piece of cyberturf we're standing on.

And of course, who can forget 21 and 180?

Oh, and 1398 is making a name for themselves.

233

639 was very noticable last year at the Canadian Super Regional with our 9ft tall red and white banners, red scissor lift, red carabiner (tulip), and red lexan sidings.

Team180 SPAM and their Capes
Team 21 Combat with their bat like moves
Team 34 Rocket City Robotics with their Rocket shaped LED displays

if the tie dye doesnt catch your attention, and the clown wigs slip by, you can hear them from miles away. A 5 gallon water jug with a few nuts and bolts can become a noise maker of mass headaches. That and they have a massive team, all the better for them, i broght ear plugs afer the second day of bleeding from the ears.

LOL :) My team has been forbidden by we 3 captains of making so much noise, cheer yes, i encourage it, but the megaphones and air horns are out.

How about the big yellows smiley faces?

10-02-2005, 22:32
MOE, without a doubt, the most identifiable of them all
behind that 47, 45, and a few others

Well and 116 has the most identifiable engineer of any team, but the team as whole, not so much :p

MOE and Wildstang definitely stand out in any crowd!

10-02-2005, 23:23
Don't forget the west coast... we've got 254 and 330, as well as 60 (not really west coast, but still...)

And, as Ogre pointed out, 175 is pretty easy to recognize with all of the yellow smileys.

Great, just what's needed here. Another popularity thread.
Ah well. I'll play along.
There are over a thousand teams and it's getting increasinly difficult to stand out in the crowd. Teams that sill manage to are...
47 Chiefdelphi with their jumpsuits. The closest to a true unifom I have seen in FIRST.
233 Space Coast team. Far as I know there are no otehr teams in hot pink.
25 Raider Robotics. Not only for thsoe Hawiian shirts but now they are armed with air cannons and putting hits out on people and shooting them on sight( now that I am aware of thier brutal intentions I shall prudently move in the other direction quickly when they are spotted. Survival y'know).

QUOTE]

I wasn't trying to make another popularity thread, I was just wondering who thought what teams stand out the most. Teams can stand out in a crowd and not have an awesome robot, but it shows they have fun in what they do. :)

Also this thread could help rookie teams form an identity for them selves by looking at all the teams that have been mentioned already and the ones that will be mentioned later in this thread.

I forgot to mention team 47 on my list, I can see there jackets everywhere at Nat's.

What about teams that are identifiable by their robot? My team is too small to be noticed much by our cheering section or shirts. Everyone remembers the Grasshoppers by our ability to pick up balls ;-) from the 2000, 2001, and 2004 games.

I always recognize Buzz by their white-lexan with yello smiliey on their bot.
Discovery is easily IDed by their green robots, as is 885.

Here is my list (and why):

Wildstang - the original tie-die always is easy to identify
MOE - bright green, very recognizable
Chief Delphi - thanks to the uniforms, the great team, and the website
Space Coast - hot pink
Huskie Brigade - urban cammos. (I don't like saying my own team, but I would have siad this last year before I joined them).

Peter Matteson

I think a better question is:

Is there a situation where you can't see MOE coming from across the building?
That green really makes you see them coming.

Kit Gerhart
11-02-2005, 08:55
Team 233 was one of the most identifiable to me, even before I joined them. That hot pink really stands out from all the red, black, blue, and green. Also, 47 and 111 have been very identifiable for a long time due to both their colors (orange and tie dye) and their always having very good robots.

11-02-2005, 09:23
yes, i was about to say 233

however
Watch out for 759 at NYC this year, you wont be able to miss us... our t shirts are something special, with our British flag being a rather major part its going to be along the lines of this i think. (but as a short sleved t shirt, not a sleveless)

No doubt 47.

Our team stands out in our purple shirts. Our schools colors are purple and gold.

13-02-2005, 10:35
well thx to those who said 180--we try to make ourselves known well-just gotta love super s.p.a.m. ;)

i have to say it depends on where you are most teams are noticed at regionals but never make it to nationals

i say 21 combat when there was all of them running around- i'm sry you can't miss them

but yes who can miss the team in pink...233

Kevin Kolodziej
13-02-2005, 13:58
I agree with the vote for the Bomb Squad. You can't miss the chant in the pit on their way to the field (they still do that, right???). The big "BBS" on the shirts stands out too, but not quite as well as the "Bomb Squad" used to.

Team Rush #27, if I recall correctly, also has some pretty nice jumpsuits.

BOB #85 has always been a favorite of mine with the garage suits.

Barry Bonzack
13-02-2005, 14:09
180 SPAM and 179 SWAMP were the first ones I noticed at my initial event.

At UCF regional last year had to go to not just 233 but Krunch 79 with their guys in coconut bras and hula skirts. Takes some guts to do that.

Nationally I vote MOE. I bet you can see those shirts even in the dark.

the technoticks, MOE, and chiefdelphi are the most identifiable to me.

two years before i officially joined team 233 (which i'm pleased to see has been mentioned by many people on this thread :)) the first teams i ever noticed were S.P.A.M with the Superman Logo (what a coincidence... that day i ended up wearing a Superman shirt instead of a pink shirt or something) and our sister team, Combat with their camo pants and yellow shirts (the next year i wore a camo shirt.. lol figures. i learned to wear pink to competitions from then on) also, who can miss the Children of the Swamp in their bright green? or the Flashbacks in their tyedie? besides those teams, and my own :), i'd have to say our alliance partners in NYC last year; the British team and the purple Wizard team, with their capes and all. (sorry for complete lack of team numbers or even proper names; i dont really remember teams by their number, but rather what color they are/what the look like). MOE of course is hard to miss, and Buzz was hard to miss at nationals too. and theres team 79 the navigators (i'll always think of them as Krunch though). who could forget the guys dressed up with coconut bras, and balloons in their shirts, their bright blue color scheme, and the multicolored zipties found in many teammembers' hair? there are tons of other teams who are memorable for different reason, but those are just the first ones who come to mind. :)

for those of you who dont show up on this list, dont be discouraged! just like previously mentioned, teams are also very well remembered for their robots... although it is true that a team may be remembered more for screaming "good morning" to every single team in the pits every single morning, or for running around and shooting people with air cannons. thats just life. :)

this year i hope to see many more teams with creative ways to be identifyable... not just veteran teams, but rookies as well!

Some good news and bad news. We have changed out shirts back to the BOMB SQUAD in bold on the back of the shirt, but because we lost out corporate sponsor, we can not use anything that says Baxter. We have been racking our brains on a chant but we just can't think of anything that is as noticeable as that coming out of the pit. If you guys have anything, it would be a great help. I would agree the Hawaii Delphi team is a noticeable team with all the bright colors. Thanks!

Thanks Greg. Team 38 has made a promising showing in the past... the time has come for us to show ourselves again... this could be the year.

As for my personal list: 237 (sister team), 236 (techno ticks<- their easy to remember chant heard throughout the pits), and Buzz (black and yellow, you just have to smile while looking at them).

i think one team we have to watch out for is Team 71 BUT i am also thinkin you might have to watch out for us too Team 1259. as you can see below we where the rookie of they year last year in midwest regionals, we got 4th out of the 53. not bad i think, and i think this year we may be a real threat aslo (my 2 cents)

Hopefully this year Team 96 is making a comback for green. Still, it'd be tough to put my team over MOE... can't beat that glow.... that might be the reason for some of the kids wearing shades indoors... any way, BUZZ definitly has some bright shirts, but New England has a lot of... different teams. Teams 230 and 173 have some impressive "shows". Techo-nuts too man.

On the West coast, GRT (Gunn Robotics) stands out in a crowd. Who could miss that bright red hair? (Sorry I don't remember the number.) Also, 65, the Gila Monsters, stands out, particularly when they do the Gila dance.

Yea you can see them in the dark, its kinda scary sometimes.
One of the great things about having our team in bright MOE green is that we can track them down where ever we go, never get lost at an airport or mall and you can always find a MOE member

Has anyone mentioned Diablo? (Team 87) Rancocas Valley always has a very spirited team, and often win Imagery Awards. They had a "Priceless" shirt for their mentors a few years back that was excellent (said with envy). They also build very good robots. GO DIABLO!!!

48- Delphi Elite
188- Woburn

I would say:
33- The honey Bees
47- Delphi Elite

For the record, 33 is the Killer Bees, and Delphi E.L.I.T.E. is 48 (47 being the one and only Chief Delphi).

I think the team that stands out most according to me is team 279 Tech Fusion. Last year, they are the only team that made 7 buttons that spelled out "DESTINY" and a prize to go along with them. Who couldn't forget the "What time is it? 279!" chant? The first team that we had a spirit battle with at last year's GLR. They were awesome :p .

Other teams include:
1241 (Theory 6) With their orange beanies and unidentifyable blue mascot :p .
494 (Martians), 'nuff said.
217 (Thunder Chickens) also 'nuff said.

Eric,

I am glad you like our dance. We know who started it. No one can remember when or where it started (for sure.) We once had nearly 600 people doing it at EPCOT.

By the way the Gila Monsters are Team #64. If you are at Phoenix, Denver, or Las Vegas, come on down and join us.

well, 279 was very memorable, but the it's actually Krunch time (team 79). that was very confusing last year at Nats. Swamp is also very memorable, due to the green body paint. the knights who say Nee were sweet at ucf too.

Out of teams that went to UTC last year, 157, 173, and 175 stand out the most in my mind for being noticeable, and as for Philly, MOE was way too memorable for anyone else to stand out.

Anyone who attended FLR will agree that team 1547- Trafalgar Castle "Where's Waldo" is pretty hard to miss. Their striped red shirts and enthusiasm couldn't be missed at the venue. This GM team from Canada won a well deserved Rookie Inspiration Award at FLR. See them at Greater Toronto Regional, and hopefully Championship.

Geez bout time, can't believe it took til page 3 for 217 to get a mention. I tought the original bright green shirts and memorable name was a definite winner in most people's minds.

My votes go to

No one from the VCU regional has posted....

I'd go with Sparky 384 easy. They stand out as a quality team every year. Robodogs 435 has a very large team and are always noticed at competitions.
623 stood out this year I thought; won a couple awards; stood out in the stands.
I'd like to say team 401 made a presence this year. In years past, we've never showed any enthusiasm, but we have a small team and I think we were noticed this year. Can't wait till nationals

I think we'd be remiss to not include Team 1547 (http://robotphotos.org/2005-flr-1547) from Whitby, ON in Canada (General Motors of Canada & Trafalgar Castle School).

Their red/white striped rugby shirts are a vibrant visual reference to the character they call in their omnipresent chant, "Waaallllllllllllddooooooo..."

I agree, as I'm sure of any of you that were at the Finger Lakes Regional, team 1547 is beginning to make a name for themselves.

If you are attending the Las Vegas Regional, I think you will notice High Rollers. We plan to have a massive "Sea of Maroon" in the stands consisting of around 250-300 people. If all goes as planned, we will be handing out poker chips and cards :D We're really sticking to our Las Vegas theme this year.

i went to a flogging molly concert a month or so ago and the whole crowd was doing the 'Ole, Ole Ole' chant before they came out for their encore. it was pretty awesome.
we attempted it at the sac. regional but it didnt get very far. the wave we started was far far better. slow motion, fast, backwards you name it we did it!!!
i think the BLUE CREW from team 1323 at sac. was pretty identifiable.
we definetly stood out!!!

Hi

As an avid football fan i cannot let this go. ole ole (or a variation on the words, such as a name of a player) is one of the most common chants in football (right after vinderloo and the great escape; it does not belong to a certain team. I can half forgive your ignorance about real madrid being in the english premier league though, (i wouldnt know the first thing about nfl).

We made a heck of an alliance in Phoenix and who knows, maybe someone else will be adding us to this thread should we go all the way in Sin City!
Good luck and we'll see you there!

Why arn't their being any teams represented from GLR??!?!?!?!? Teams that stand out are for sure the HOT team team 67 (of course) team 280 (with their Chants in the Pit. Thx for the help in the finals btw) FBI (all dressed up in their Tuxedos) The Husky Brigade, the killer Beez team 33, and team 1 all were very impressive.

Team 64- The Gila Monsters.

The Gila Monsters have their infamous gila spots.
This carried over into their robot, cart, helmets etc- it also showed up on the Gila Hummer this year in a local parade and into the teams hair etc.

Go Gila, Gila Gila

i dont know if they have been mentioned yet but i think that PINK is the most identifiable team. i mean who else is pink and their robot is always amazingly hoss!!!! their arm in the past two year has been beautifus (yes beautifus) and finally they are one of the loudest teams at a competition. so i feel that they are up there in recognizable teams.

In my mind, these are the most identifiable teams

47- Chief Delphi
48- Delphi E.L.I.T.E
188- Woburn Robotics
257- Royal Assault
365- MOEbius
869-Power Cord
395-2TrainRobotics
341-MISS DAISY

But,in my mind, I think every team in FIRST is a identifiable team. I mean there different kinds of the same robot and then come from different places in the world. And every FIRST team is a got a story to said and its cool to hear why FIRST has impact then. We can relate to each other, somehow. Thats what I think

If you want to chat or talk about FIRST and everything about FIRST, hook me up. I want to hear from every FIRST team and there interesting story.

Alright, if no one else is going to say it, I think 203 (Campbell Soup), 501, and 709 stand out.
501 mostly because of their large group of Monty Python-esque gallopers.

Come on, guys. How could anyone put together a list of "identifiable teams" that long without 233, The Pink Team. They were about the most "identifiable team" from the first time I saw them, and that was when I was with TechnoKats four or five years before I joined 233.

You can't miss the giant Scott Ritchie head :) Look for version 2.0 at Nationals.

Most teams have been mentioned already, one forgotten was 192. You always knew when those guys were around, everyone had red hair. Everyone.

:) Thanks, it's always fun to get strange looks from random people. That and running away from scissors. But never fear, it'll be back next year! ...Unless the team somehow forgets what dye we use. :( Sadly, no red hair this season...

Most of mine have been mentioned before... 47 (man those jackets were sweet), 234 (bright blue hair, and in some cases, bright blue tall spiky hair), 365 (those shirts are definitely visible in the dark; the only team we managed to find last year at the wrap party with no trouble). For the west coast, I might be somewhat biased in saying this, but 1097 always sticks out to me. Last year it was their red pants, this year it was their garbage bags. And it's kind of hard to miss a breakdancing pirate. Also, 100 has that giant highlighter-orange Cat-in-the-Hat hat.

if were talking about most recognizable in a visual sense then team 88...in terms of performance and knowing when someone is playing...RAGE. whenever they go play a match the noise level is insane and then afterwords you can smell crushing defeat (for all of you who didnt get a chance to participate at chesapeake they crushed someone in the semi's i think something like 121 to 60)

Team 88 is very identifiable. They are quite loud and they really stood out with their tye dye in Manchester. (There were a few other tye-dyers in Maryland)
Team 501 is noticeable especially when they gallop around the pits like they did in Maryland.
The Aztecs were very noticeable in Manchester.
I always notice 836 because they have been at both of our regionals and I keep getting confused and almost talking to people on their team. I then realize that I have never met them before and realize that I am talking to a Robo Bee.

:) Thanks to everyone who mentioned Buzz! :)

I'm really surprised that no one has mentioned 222. I mean come on. Tigertrons? Orange and black everything and they always have an awesome robot. Also 63 (sorry if it's the wrong number) the red barons. EVERYTHING IS RED!!! Of course all the others that people have mentioned prior to my post. There's isn't a need to repeat what's been said.

Here is my list (and why):

Wildstang - the original tie-die always is easy to identify
MOE - bright green, very recognizable
Chief Delphi - thanks to the uniforms, the great team, and the website
Space Coast - hot pink
Huskie Brigade - urban cammos. (I don't like saying my own team, but I would have siad this last year before I joined them).

yeah not many people have their robots painted hot pink either

i love it
