View Full Version : Tigerbolt Chatters! New Software Coming

For those of you that visit the Tigerbolt chat, I'm working on a custom IRC client designed especially for that chat, and as a practice project, I'm working on a small program that could run in the system tray down by your clock that would tell you when new people signed into the chat...who would be interested? I'm still learning the IRC protocol, but I can see what I can do to add other features as they're asked for...

Update! Here it is... http://www.geocities.com/natejsmith/chat_soft.html

mIRC already does that.

Eddie,
Nate's program displays a window sort of like an AIM alert when someone joins or leaves the chatroom. AFAIK, mIRC doesn't do this. You don't need to know when people join or leave if the mIRC window is already open ;)
Nate.
It doesn't seem to be responding to all the right protocol. After running it for a few minutes, you get a ping timeout.
I figure you probably want to do this to learn the IRC protocol, but it seems like it would be a lot easier to use a combination of an mIRC script using ON JOIN and /run and an external program.

I just released v0.6 of the Notify client...go to the page linked to above, and you can download the updated EXE...will keep you from having to download the whole 1.6MB again

Um, stupid question, but what does AFAIK mean?

I posted that answer here, but it seems to have disappeared.
Anyway... The other acronym that I tend to use is IIRC = If I Remember Correctly

I have only noticed one small prob in the newest update..... It would only need to be fixed if u wanted to make the program perfect in appearance/performance.....
:D
attachment deleted to save space.

Okay, all of this seems really cool and stuff, but I have to ask, Nate, how much time do you have on your hands? :) Like, are you really that bored? Hehe.

it's something with how the IRC routines I found decode the message when it's sent (via PRIVMSG, for those of you familiar with IRC), I noticed that when I was testing the paging feature, and I'll see what I can do to fix it...there's extra space somewhere that I need to Trim() out...

In a nutshell, yes, I really am that bored...but honestly, I found the whole IRC code that handles pretty much everything already written, I just had to add what was needed on top of it..Came up with a few ideas to add while I was at work tonight, so look out :)

There's no better time to do things then while getting paid for it. :) I'm at work right now, and this is the place I always check CD. It's okay, at least your boredom is good for us, my boredom...well, nothing ever comes of it. :)

The only reason I even have a website is because of my boredom at work. :) And I find a bunch of different online games to play. :D

I'm consistantly bored during the summer. Mom's at work, and the kids are at camp. No siblings to toss around. ;)
How do I fight it? Posting here, playing my several Star Trek games, trying to beat my minesweeper time (15 seconds on beginner. beat that!), or just plain old web surfing. And lately, I've been concentrating on building decks for my card game.
Wow, I have no life.
