Each Chairman's Award submission can include up to 4 pictures summing to no more than 1 megabyte. I interpret this as 4 pics = 1 MB + the essay. I just wanted to make sure thats how everyone else interprets it and it's not actually 1MB total including the pictures and essay.
While we are on the topic, how does your team chose your pictures? Many teams have thousands throughout the year, how do you narrow it to four? will you use all four pictures, or will you have higher resolution pictures but fewer of them?
I figure I'll be using pictures that go along with some of the main community outreach programs discussed in the essay. Should a picture of the robot even be included since the CA takes the focus away from the robot?
What will your team be using?

We are one of the teams that has a lot of pictures. The pictures that we chose last year had to do with a sepcific outreach event that we did. Another was one of a mentor guiding the sutdent as they worked. In last years case Heidi (team photographer) picked a most of the pictures for it since she had seen them all a bunch of times. Also its 1mb for the pictures and a 10,000 character limit.

What is the situation with putting captions on a picture, or is that appropriate?
I have my pictures chosen, but need to decide whether or not to edit captions onto them. Thanks :)

Captions are a great idea. It doesn't add to the size of the pictures. And if it ever gets misplaced, they'll know the team it belongs to.
I'm recommending to teams that I work with to include a group picture of their team. :)
I might not be understanding the process but I don't know how you could add captions. You just upload the picture. Then it is displayed in a box, allowing for 4 pictures. I can't figure out how you would add a caption, but good for you if you can!

You're right ,I was not too clear- using Photoshop or any good photo editor with text options, titles and captions can be added onto a jpg photo.
btw- I just added a team picture (334) to the 2005 gallery with a title added.
This was actually done with MS Powerpoint; I imported the picture, added the title, export (save) the whole page in jpg format again. (don't forget to rename the file) :)

To add more pictures to your Chairman's submission...I was thinking along these lines....how about "combining" pictures to form one image? ...so instead of uploading 4 images like this:

we would end up with this:
http://img216.exs.cx/img216/2844/imagem2chairmans5ti.jpg
so instead of uploading 4 photos, you'd actually end up with 16 (while still complying with the 1Mb limit)...I thought it'd be interesting, and I haven't read anything against this yet (it seems to be within the rules)...
Just an idea...
