Congratulations to the winning alliance in West Michigan, leaded by ChiefDelphi: Teams 47, 33 and 888.

And by the way, Beatty lost in the semifinals. Anyone knows what exactly happened? Someone found a strategy to beat them?

Being the official scorekeeper at West MI, I saw the matches where Beatty was defeated...their design limits them to straight forward motion, and teams discovered that once they pushed enough on Beatty that they were turned sideways, there wasn't much more they could do...

If the Nate or any of the people that were at Wester MI could answer me these ?'s:

-Did they push on a goal Beatty was holding or on "The Beast" Directly?

-Were one or two robots pushing?

And just to clarify for me, so Beatty was turned facing the side rails of the field? Thanks!

There were a few ways to beat beaty hammond and one was by pulling, and it was by pulling on a goal on the side which if tugged hard enough will cause a major change in direction, so much that I think 391 had them completely the wrong way. It takes a really strong bot to do this, every time it was when Beatty only had 2 goals one in middle and one on side, I don't know if 3 would have had a different effect. It's not an easy bot to beat.

It definitely helped to have two teams trying to turn 71. In matches like our elimination rounds, when one robot failed, it became very difficult to turn it.

By the way, Congrats to Chief Delphi on Incredible Play and GM Industrial Design Awards.

One of 47's incredible plays happened in Match 23, where they helped us score 52 points, not enough to win, but what an effort! 22 balls, a touch to our go home device to get it going and a rush to the home zone! A record qualifying points for our opponents, who scored 55, but what a show!

In answer to your questions. I am the coach of the Cosmos team 123 from Hamtramk High, I was involved in the design, fabrication and coaching for this team, we were selected by team 107, and 71, -"The Beast" to be their alliance for the finals and they told us straight up that they chose us because "Teams" had figured if they didn't grab three goals initially they could be turned sideways and thus disrupt their play. We had displayed great torque and they hoped we could keep them straight once the other teams started to push them. Unfortunately they failed to latch onto but 2 goals the whole four matches we were in. We were able to keep them straight during both of the 2 matches we were in, however the last one we lost because the other team used a go home bot - Team 66's tethered bot along with 2 balls in the one goal they had gave them the win. So I guess what I'm trying to say is if Team 71 fixes that 3rd goal grabber you guys better watch out... GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL in FL. See ya down there next year... COACH - JJ

Watch out! You do not think for one moment that Beatty will just sit and think about the past competition.

I bet at the nationals they will improve the "Beast" and repair the machine to the "Beatty" quality we all know and love.

I would rather play with them then against them for sure.

Go team 71!
