mmm nope. i see wires outta the well greased tranny case tho. sensors maybe since the wire is skinny?

I'd say the other motors (since you say they are there) are on the opposite side of the tranny from the chip motors. There are wires from a speed controller going that way anyways and no extra wires for motors on the side of the chips.

i dont think so, they seem to be using treads and there really isnt much cpace between that and the case. barely enough for a fp. possible a seat or window motor but definitly no cims gonna fit there.
maybe they have it on their other side of the robot? on the other pulley for the treads?. if the motors run at the same speed, it would make it harder to 'derail' the treads that way i think.

Can you spot the second motor in each of these transmissions?

So I don't think that they are on the other side of the robot.

Nice tranny, and I think the CIM motors are stacked on top of eachother... :) I love the style shifting you guys' use...looks familiar :rolleyes:

I am not sure if this is what you are talking about, but I do see the reflection of the CIMS in the lexan?

They are the hall effects sensors.

I'll give you a hint. You can't really see it because of all the grease on the covers, and the reflection from the camera flash, but there is a 8mm spider coupler on the end of the CIM motor you can see, and there is a 4" gap between the top and bottom of the tracks. The CIM motor is only about 2.5" DIA.

Well, I honestly don't have a good guess as to where those second motors are, although if I had to guess I would say that they are stacked on top of one another.
What do you mean when you say "tracks"? Are the second motors necessarily CIMs? Maybe the second set of motors are located underneath the CIMs, but are harder to see because they are a different kind and they are smaller.
I am still not sure about this though, because I do not see any second set of wires going in that direction from the speed controllers, unless the wires are fed underneath somehow and are out of sight.

I have some other questions about this:
How fast is your robot in high gear and low gear?
Do you use a "dog" shifting method or do you actually move the gears? I like the Technokat inspired shifter.

Looks nice and compact. Good job.

It uses a technokat style dog to shift. In low it goes about 3.3 ft/sec and will push two large guys at a time on carpet. In high it goes about 10 ft/sec. (Actual not theoretical) Each trannsmissions weighs only 8.5 lbs including the motors and shifter. And these trannsmissions include all the gearduction stages for the drive train so there are no chains and sprockets in our drive train. That big cylinder isn't actually that big, it just looks that way because its really close to the camera.

And the motors arn't stacked since those trannies are only 3" tall. And the other motor is a CIM motor.
