Looks like we'll have an exciting year at the Finger Lakes Regional from what I've seen at the Scrimmage hosted by 1511 Harris/Penfield HS last Monday! Can't wait to see all the other rookie teams in the area I've worked with.

Looks good. I watched your Penfield Scrimmage videos on your site and was impressed by the auto mode. It seems quite consistent. See you in 8 days.

That arm is a beast! How many motors are in it?

very cool! haven't seen a design like that yet... The arm looks really stable. Good job. :]

is there a bend in the arm or is that just the angle of the camera?

Oh yeah. The arm bends a bit.

Well, I hate to give it away, but automode was driven by drivers... at the time of the scrimmage all of the teams said that they did not have a reliable automode, so we decided to go with a driver-controlled automode, just so everyone would have a chance to play. The thing I found interesting though, even with the drivers controlling the robots, non of the teams capped a vision tetra....

And Xcats, what an impressive Robot :) We hope to be allied with you again!

Thanks to all the teams that came... we hope you had a great time! :)

Vison Tetras seemed to be such a pain to place on the goals. The color bars look like they get caught awkwardly on the goal and the robot has to mess with it to straighten it out. I saw alot of this on the Conneticut scrimmage as well. The red alliance(X-Cats and Rolling Thunder) had no choice but to use them because that was all that was left to use after a while.

JKnox,

Yes the arm is a beast and a half... It's run with just one atwood and 1 van door motor with it's own braking system to give it some better control. Just think of a shimano or SRam mountain bike disc brake on steroids. :)

This year's design was a paradign shift for our team since we've never had a functional robot built ever in the first 1.5 weeks and also have 2 robots completed in a season. With the fore mentioned budget cuts we were going for cheap, strong and easy to replace.

Katy,

It's probably the typical flex from PVC... nothing to worry about..it provides a breakable linkage so that none of the expensive parts actually break.

Thanks Kim,

We're always trying to impress when possible. Keep it simple but as any engineer knows Fit, Form & function first! We'll work on the photogenic side last... Yes it was alot of fun since we haven't had a scrimmage in a while here in Rochester. They were typically sponsored by Kodak in the past but this time we actually had a robot that had no issues at a scrimmage for the first time too.

I'm hoping to get this team more streamlined and efficient.

Let's all go grab some refreshments sometime Friday night at Buffalo Wild Wings and chill. I spoke to Johnny V and he's down with something.

WOW, an amazing robot. Specially very unique. In my 3 years i have always noticed that the X-Cats come up with original and marvelous designs. I would love to see you guys at the nats. Props to you team! and best of luck :D

You bet.
The Clarkson kids are coming to town, and we're ready to party.
We've even got some friends coming in from out of town (http://www.thunderchickens.org), who I hear know a thing or two about a fun time.

Friday night sounds good, as long as I can get back to tuck my drivers in. ;)
(No good-night kisses, that would be a mentor code violation.)

Given that RIT is hosting the regional, we (the RIT students) are planning on having at least one or two big kids parties during the regional. If you come by and ask we can give you the low down on exactly what's going on.

Whoever asked about the arm and mentioned that its a beast it definitely is not only is the atwood connected to a gearbox but after that its geared down another 25:1
