We were reading over the first rules and had a question. According to first, you can use what is provided in the kit. From the way it sounds, we can use 2 vandoor motors because on the list of parts, it list the quanity as 2. We checked an update though that says you can use only one vandoor motor which is a problem because our robot has 2. Can someone help clairify this a little more?

You are allowed to use only the motors provided in the kit in the quantity provided. The kit of parts checklist incorrectly listed the quantity of Van Door Motors as 2; an update later corrected that error and the intended number of that motor allowed on a robot is one.
If you have two on your robot, you'll need to remove one to pass inspection.

We recieved two in our kit and designed our robot around that. When we noticed the update, we had to redesign our spool to be powered by two fisher prices instead. Ironically this is what made it possible for us to get underweight so we're not complaining. I was confused about that too though.... Did FIRST intend to give two, but then realized they didn't send all teams 2? Or did they accidently send 2? It seems conspicuous that some teams got 2 motors, AND it was listed as 2 in the begining. Any thoughts?

i dont know, but we got 2 and designed our bot for 2.....looks like we have redesigning to do at the comp.
Keep the other one for a spare, but definately redesigning is in order.

There was some confusion during the prep of the KOP. Some teams received two motors but the intent was to only have one. The KOP list may have been the source of confusion but I can tell you that inspectors are being instructed that only van door motor per the update.
Team Update 1
"Corrections to Kit of Parts quantities...
Taigene – The quantity should be 1, not 2."

ooh low blow, i agree that he was a poor choice for the Democrats(who i happen to associate with) and was no where near as firm on his policies as he should have been but this is a place for engineering not politics.
as for the matter of the Van door problem, we used a window motor in addition to the Van door, its not as powerful but it is a similar shape and would probably be the easiest replacement to install.
