Team 79 was called last week by ABC producers for the show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The show asked us if we could design the bedroom for a 12 year old boy who was really into robotics. The family has had some hardship in the past few months as the father of the family was shot at Radio Shack while working. In a series of shootings he was the only of the 3 people shot at his work to survive, but now he will never be able so see again as he was blinded because of the bullet wound. The team was honored and decided to jump in to help out. So, today they are knocking the house down and the family will move back in on Sunday. The only problem is that we have the Central Florida Regional this weekend so we have to rush back home to start moving in what we built for the house. Its pretty crazy, but awesome at the same time.
That's really amazing! It'll be busy, but will be worth it seeing as you are changing someone's life. Do you know when the show will air?
Wow, that is so great! This weekend will be a LOT of work for all of you, but so worth it in the end!

In one word, \m/.
It's always good to see teams getting tapped to do things outside of FIRST--best of luck to you in both efforts!
(By the way, any word on what you'll be doing?)

That is going to be an AMAZING experience!
It's great not only that you got the opportunity to do this, but that you're actually going to take it, and change someone's life.
I can't wait to see the show!

There is a description of their task on their website here (http://www.krunch79.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=2). It will be a very crazy week for them. As far as I know, the episode will air in the next month but that's all the details they have so far.

What an awesome experience! These kind of things are what makes me proud to be involved with FIRST. Not that building robots, and teaching kids and getting them interested in technology isn't enough. I don't normally watch the show, but I'll definitely watch this episode. Oh yea, and Good Luck at the central Florida regional!
whoa!!! way to go guys (and girls!) this is truely a one in a life time chance to do something that you guys will remember forever! CONGRATS!!!! let us know about details and your adventures with the crew of the show (ty!!).
have fun, and don't get too stressed out with the timing of this event and your regional(s).
way to go!

Awe man, every time I watch that show I get all choked up at the end. Now it's gonna have you guys on it. I'm gonna have to get a box of tissues and send the family out for dinner. Hey I smell a chairmans award. Congratulations guys, you no doubt deserve all kinds of credit for all the hard work you put into delivering FIRST to everyone. Thanks!

this is definitly going to be one of the craziest weeks ever. 3 days of competion and then 18 hours of construction. i cant wait. it was awesome to meet the crew and we all wore our shirts for this part of the taping. watch out on the show for the krinch shirts and the sea of blue shirts when we turn it over.
thanks for all of the support everybody

Question: Do you all get to demolish the house with the sledge hammers and such? I've always wanted to do that. Wow, I really need to lay off these reality shows. :ahh:

we will definitely try that would be awesome!!!! i cant wait to go tomorrow!!!
congrats guys and good luck! :D
That is really cool that you get to help others, especially if it involves something you're really into. But decorating a kid's room with a robotics theme is like Martha Stewart meets FIRST...somewhat of a scary thought;) . But still sounds pretty cool. Good luck with the Extreme Makeover and also at the regional.

That is simply awesome guys. What a wonderful thing to do, wish I could help in some way, but I guess I'll be needed elsewhere at that time. Good luck.

It is a very scary thought indeed and try to get the famly to come to Atlanta
Great news, Great news! Have to say congrats, and that kid is gonna have the best room if it's done by Krunch - you guys rock, im kind of jealous that I dont get to have a robotics room *tear* but move way for my selfish desires and have fun helping out a family with greater needs! Hope the kid likes his room and keep everyone updated, this will deffinately be an episode to catch! Can't wait. Bummer is that it happens the last of the UCF regional, but i'm sure that you will do fine if you set your minds to it. Good luck and make a killer robotics room design!!
do you have any idea when this will be airing?

we just finished up with the house this morning and the room came out awesome. our members worked from right after the competition (where we took chairmans! woo-hoo!!!) straight through the night till the crew booted us out of the house. just like build season, right to the last minute :) . this is truly one of the coolest experiences ever. thanks for all of the support. sorry we cant post any pictures, the crew was extremely strict on no photos, and any picturs that may have been accidently taken cannot be published untill after airing.
unfortunately we couldnt wear our krunch shirts (except at the shoot at school)
hope to see everyone in chicago and atlanta. good luck to everyone in their upcoming competitions.

i just want to thank everyone for their support as we took on this extreme challenge. but without FIRST this never would have happened because they never would have found out about us. so I just want to give props to FIRST. Also all the other teams that would have worked just as hard as we did if they were in our situation thank you again for all your support. FIRST ROCKS!!!!!!!!

Hey 79, I'm gussing you'll be adding this to your Chairman's presentation, right? :)
I read that the house was finished in 79 hours, a record for the show. How odd... Awesome job, guys! :)
You can read about the family and the project here:

It would be quit odd if it was the 24th, as that is the Sunday after The Championship Event. Good thing I will be home by 4ish that day.(hopefully)
wow! good luck with it! I will make sure to watch it and say "HEY! I KNOW THOES KIDS FROM A MESSAGE BOARD!!!"

KRUNCH, I just want to say you guys (and gals) have proven one of the greatest aspects (in my opinion) in FIRST, which is dedication to not only to FIRST as well as your team, but also your community. You should be (if not already) one of the greatest inspirations in FIRST.
Good luck with everything that the future brings to the team.
wow you guys and girls are great. i really look forward to Atlanta now with you, 111, 67, 60, 365, and all the other great teams that won chairmans this year. i really look forward to competing with you guys.
I'm still in awe when i found out that you guys won 3 years in a row. good job. really good job.
