Ok, i know its still a little far away, but from what i've heard its gonna be huge this year, more than 30 people at least. So who's up for it, we can probably tailor the rules more to competition, but I think the Balint scoring system is the way to go, with some additional points, like Division winners and such, as well as a new category, biggest LAN party. We also should have the live draft a week after regionals is over.
So who's in?
Alex Cormier
09-03-2005, 20:48
well i left this one for Koko to set up so i dunno just how to start this yet. he had some great ideas on how to manage this. so i would just wait a little for this. we will be talking at buckeye in 2 weeks and get all the info down so that this will run very smooth this year. other then that I'm in!
Conor Ryan
09-03-2005, 20:53
also feel free to throw around any ideas you have for this, it may be to be very unique.
Oh wow!
Someone is moving in on my territory!
Oh well I guess I get a break this year...

NO! no break for ya on the biggest ff league of them all. we need to work all together to make this run smoothly. we shall chat more at buckeye after i shall beat all of you badly... even thought i won't have my team for that league. :(

there all taken when we reach 249, yeah thats how many teams are going to nats currently. if we do reach 249, you'll give any organizer a heart attack, no matter how good their cholesterol is.

With 249 teams 83 people would be allowed to enter the draft. As I see it, more than 249 teams will go to nationals, there will be more through regional qualifying.

Depends who gets involved. Last year Joel, Joe Ross, Jones571, Levin571, Pittbull1126 and Jessica Boucher we're a huge part of the fantasy FIRST success. Hopefully they will be back to help it be a success again.

Koko...I just thought up something that might help the draft run a little smoother. Establish a schedule before the draft start and assign a time and date to each person with about 10-15 minutes in between each (skip hours when some may be asleep and such). Let everyone pick their team on or after that time. The schedule before hand will tell everyone when they need to be around. And if they aren't around, others can pick at their times and the people who missed their picks can come back at any time to make their selection, but the teams that others had already picked (after they missed their time slot) would not be available. Just ask that whenever someone posts their pick to include their time slot and it wouldn't be too hard to keep track of. And I am game for helping...just let me know what you want me to do. I hope this message made sense, if not, please ask questions.

Hey that sounds like a much better plan then last year and still fair i think we should run it this way. but also like last year teams should make a list and email to myself or kokoed we will specify later. Please do it in a word document and save it as your CD name so that way they can be kept track of very easily and all in on folder for organization.
and Jagman and thoughtful your both in good luck!

on the draft selection, as tkwetzel said earlier theres an idea for that, and give everyone a date and time to make their picks that may work. But i sorta came up with this other idea...Sort of like the yahoo fantasy baseball autodraft that they have, if we could have a program set up online where all the users can access it and then order their picks and they are automatically picked in the draft order and by process of elimination.

Id rather do it the same way we did last year (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27588) (more fun that way). Plus we have guys who have experience running such a large draft.

Ogre that is the hard part about nationals you have to know a lot more about every robot it wouldn't be challenging if we broke it into smaller divisions then every one could get the cheesy poofs and Hammond..... get the picture

No, when you break it up into divisions, each FF division gets assigned a real division. That way each robot only gets picked once, and the 'good' robots are spilt up.

We'll call this the main Championship FF and we can do one for divisions.

ok i Ogre has a good idea, now lets run with it. The Sub divisions will probably pop up later. As for this, the chaotic large style draft is a probably going to be what this ends up as. Same style as the other ones, everyone is notified of the draft date and their time slot (that won't be bumped up as we learned in NJ FF) I also think we need to add points to the Balint scoring system for stuff such as Division winner, and Overall Winner. Other than that its probably going to be just as chaotic as all the other drafts.
ps-does anyone know if its possible to write in columns in your posts, it would be a little helpful

as my buddy Koko Ed and the FF master said above, this is the original ruling FF Championship league, NO divisions.

Uhh I'm gunna roll with ed on that one saying this is going to played the same as last year...and well divisions possible next year........but on a happy less confrontational note the lovely Jessica Boucher has so kindly agreed to do the excel sheet again for this years Championship game so scoring will be very simple :) thanks jess!

Alright this year with me actually having a job i can declare a ***prize***!! (yeah like the kind you can actually touch)
Pitbull1126 and myself have come up with the idea of getting a FIRST Tshirt. (one of the ones that says 2005 nationals) then getting all the CD people to sign it at the web hug. Also i will try for other popular FIRST celebs that might be popular....woodie, dave etc..... do to the fact we don't know the winner ahead of time the Shirt will be an XL. It will be shipped to your door after nationals or you can arrange for pick up if your going to one of the same off seasons...... any other contributions to the winners box (i.e. your team pins or shirts) please give to me at nationals so i can pack them away...sound good????
actual prize will vary this is just an idea http://www.logoloc.com/first/13477.html (http://)

Can it be April 12th? Cus then Itll give a day for people to look over the divisions and allow them to change their draft lists according to them.
edit: As for the buttons, not sure yet. My dad controls the current supply of the Woodie Flowers buttons. And maybe a no longer "manufactured" 2004 pimp.... :yikes:

Sure thing. But I won't be around til later that day. I'll be at a local high school at their initial robotics meeting giving them information on starting a FIRST team with some students from the X-Cats so I may be around closer to 7ish.

Or if youd prefer, we could start the draft on the 11th, but not put people "on the clock" until the 12th. That will give oppurtunities for it to get started at least, but not force people to choose.

Koko, I have an idea for next year that might bring more people in (we can only try to find out). We should do a season long league. Before any regional begins, we will have a draft and each person will pick three teams. The teams each get a score for each regional they attend and at the end of the season we average the regional scores to get a score for each team and then add the 3 teams together to get each persons score. We would have to modify the scoring a little bit to make it work, but that wouldn't be too hard. We would have to base wins/losses off a percentage becuase some regionals have more matches for each team. I wasn't going to bring this up yet, but I though tI would throw it out to see how people respond to such an idea.
