View Full Version : Florida Regional Human Zone Set-Up - Is it correct?

I saw on the webcast that the human loading zone, the part where both feet much be touching, is a large square, yet at VCU last week it was a small triangle the size of the one the robots must be on. Is this a last minute design change, or is the setup at Flordia/VCU illegal?

The human player loading zone is supposed to be a triangle a little larger than the trianglular area of the Robot Loading zone.

The human player loading zone is supposed to be a triangle a little larger than the trianglular area of the Robot Loading zone.

So the one at Florida is illegal then, it's a large rectangle.

I saw that in the webcast this morning too. I couldn't get a screen capture to work right, for some reason--otherwise I would have posted and made the same inquiry.

For reference, it appears to be a 4 ft. square taped on the ground, at the four locations, instead of a triangle.

Actually, I think that this is a better idea, as safety goes; it's counterproductive for the human player to have to watch his feet when he's trying to safely load a robot, to avoid penalties incurred by stepping out. That doesn't make it strictly legal, but it is understandable. Perhaps the head referees' teleconference yielded this suggestion?

This was changed between week 1 and 2, and is the same way at the UTC regional in CT fyi.

It makes sense too. Rob and I were discussing it and he mentioned how much safer and less of a hassle a rectangle is than a triangle. Hopefully less penalties and complaints will occur.

It is the same at UTC like Elgin said. It was changed to make the HP safer.

BE AWARE THAT YOU NOW MUST HAVE BOTH FEET COMPLETELY IN THE BOX, NOT ANY PART OF BOTH FEET TOUCHING

Despite the boxes being larger I noticed during the practice a lot of HP's completely missing the box when they were placing tetras. Better talk to your HP's or there are gonna be a lot of penalties.

This was changed between week 1 and 2, and is the same way at the UTC regional in CT fyi. That is correct. This is a rules change which was decided upon between the head referee and the game design comittee, in the interest of safety for the human player. The human player loading zone is now a 48 inch square. This information is detailed in Team Update #15, along with other rules changes deemed necessary after the first weekend of competition.

Yep, they let us know this morning (I'm currently at the competition) that because of all the penalties caused by the small player zone, its been enlarged to the big square. Its legal.

The triangle was suppost to be a square, but got changed in communication to a triangle. It was corrected between week 1 and 2.
