Not to get the thread off topic, but how can you tape over Bambi? Find some old home video of you when you were really young and tape over the embarassing section. Or bumm the money off someone, offer to cut the grass for your parents or something. If all else fails, check the couch cussions.

Bambi scairs the heck out of me... its locked in a drawer somewhere where i wont have to look at it again until i have a recording crisis.

If it is illegal then i won't post it here. If I can even digitize it. I don't want to make ChiefDelphi.com responsible.

Techiannly, you can't without written approval. But if you show A & E chiefdelphi.com website than they might accept.
But I think that there is now law if you share it via AIM, Limewire, Bearshare, E-mail, etc.
If you do get it on the website. What format will you have it in? What codec will you use? I have heard that something like Sorenson Video 3 Codec is excellent quality at a low bit rate. Something like 240x180 would probably be a good resolution for the video.

actually i've never done it before and i don't know much about it. so, it may work better if someone who knew what they were doing, did it. i should practice first:)
I don't really now much about that stuff but I do have some tv card in my computer I can try to record the show with. Maybe that way at least one of us will get a good copy of it

Well I have done quite a lot a digital editing, and other video digitizing in the past year or so. What we want is a codec that everybody has, and that would give us the lowest bit rate with the highest possibly quality. The one most importnant thing for optimizing video for people to see is the number of megabytes. The lower the better (Nobody wants to download a 4.5 gig DV Stream). The bit rate is how many kiliobytes a second the video gets. If we set it too low than we will get cruddy and unseable video. If we set it to high than it would too much megabytes for this long presentation. A good seeting is aproxmitley 20-50 kilobytes per second. There are some advance codecs like the On2 Codec. The Sorenson Video 3 Codec. The Intel Indeuo Codec. ETC.

Sharing digital copies is like sharing a VHS copy. It's perfectly legal for you to make a digital copy and keep it for viewing. You can also share the digital copy with your friends. But I'm pretty sure you can't put it on public sites without permission.
Mike
Just to let you know......A&E is airing the piece first on July 26th, 2001 at 10pm EST.
I am sending an email to all Main & Alternate contacts in my database to let all the teams know today.

Now i'm puzzled:confused: According the the A&E website (http://www.aande.com/perl/tv/tvlistings.pl?channel=1&get=program&id=200104081400) it will air on August 4 at 2pm. One of these dates must be wrong. Lori, do you have any contacts at A&E to find out which one is right?
I'll have to check again, but my sources here in the office say it's July 26...I'll let you know for sure when I find out.
I already sent out that email this morning too.....UGH!!!!

Actually, you can put it on a public web site, just as long as you aren't making money off of it.
Then again, we might get into one of those Napster arguments...

Not true. Someone on our team digitized the 10 minute clip from our appearance on Chicago PBS and we put it on our website. PBS told us to take the public link down, but said we could keep the video on the server and privately give people the link to it.
Jess, yes we can do what we did for CD on GMA, just pass it along or use a 'private' link.

It appears to have been rescheduled based on this link from the A&E message boards: http://www.aande.com/perl/wwwthreads/showpost.pl?Board=competition&Number=1250&page=0&view=collapsed&mode=threaded&sb=5#Post1250
funny thing is that he said July 28 instead of July 26.

Hey All,
Lori Ragas at FIRST informs us that the official showing of the competition will be on A&E on July 26th at 10 pm EST. The August showing is not confirmed. That's July 26th at 10pm A&E.

Here is a message that i recieved from Andy B. today and its from Lori
I just got this note below from Lori at FIRST.
I think that this show is an episide of A&E's series called "The Competition".
This series profiles various competitions across the US, and this episode is
about FIRST. I've heard that they are covering 2 or 3 teams and following them
through the FIRST Competition... kinda like the Lofgren video did with us in
'99.
The episode airs July 26th at 10:00pm EST (that's 9:00pm for us). Tape it if
you can... I'm sure that I will.
Andy
:)
On Saturday August 4th at 2pm A&E will be airing a show called "The Competition", it will feature the first competition. Yeah Buddy!!!!!!!!!

Its about time, it looks like we finally have a concrete date for it. Saturday, August 4th, 2001, 2:00P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, 1:00P.M. Central on A&E. I know I'll be setting my VCR. I can't wait to see it.

Where did this date come from? Does this mean that's the only day it'll be on T.V.?

i found the date here (http://www.aande.com/perl/tv/tvlistings.pl?channel=1&get=program&id=200104081400) and i think that A&E usually only shows them once

Okay, time to make this a little more confusing. On A and E's website for The Competition, if you click on future topics and dates, for July 28th, they have "Mule Day," which has a description of a VERY not FIRST event. There are no shows listed past that one though. The time is from 2:00-3:00 though, a slot before the 10:00 premiere that has been listed elsewhere.
~Tom~, who can't spell worth beans but knows that FIRSTers are intelligent people that can make sense of it.
First post on the new forum for me.
Anyway, I don't think this has been mentioned recently, but the A&E show "The Competition" will be airing the FIRST episode on August 4th, from 2 to 3pm.

i think it was just the wrong date.
I wasn't sure if anyone has been keeping up with the A&E special but it is suppose to air on August 4th, 2001 from 2:00-3:00pm. I believe that 69 teams participated at the Virginia Langley Regional where A&E filmed. Our team is truly excited and we hope that you will watch as First hits the big screen once again.
moderator note: this post and the next post merged in
We're as excited as everybody, but there's a minor problem: No A&E in Brazil (Yes, team #383 :D )...
So, it will be really great if someone could record it in digital form (bytes, not atoms ;) ) and publish it in an FTP or something like that... Anyone willing to do that? :)
'
I think a few of us are gonna do our best :) maybe we can rip it to a few cd's and mail them around... no promises, i personally dont have a video in or cd burner... but i know people who do.
If someone makes a digital copy I can provide web space for it on my ftp. I will be leaving on vacation that day so if you are going to make a digital copy please e-mail me at amadkow@pacbell.net and i can give you a password to the ftp so you can upload it.

yes. i beleave so. it's hard for us in indiana also because we don't practice standard time and daylight savings time. in the winter we are in the eastern time zone and in the summer we are in the central time zone. it's kinda confusing sometimes.

why dont you just use eastern daylight savings time during the summer? itd be the same as what yorue doing now just less confusing.

that would make since and thats prolly why we don't do it. anyone that lives in Indiana knows what i am talking about. i think the origional reason for it was for the farmers and we're far from that now. on the longest day of the year it's about 10pm and there is still sunlight. it's some crazy sh.... stuff
