Hey whats up guys i hope the season has been going well for you. Anyways i was wondering who really has capped in auto mode i know we have done it 4 or 5 times i forget exactly but please only teams that really have capped any goal w/out penalties in auto. mode please no " we were this close" but i would be glad to know but pm about it but this thread is mainly for teams that have capped or a team that you know that has capped in auto mode. once again thanks for your cooperation hope you have a happy easter and God Bless

My team team 230 has capped the corner goal a few times with the initial tetra, in auto mode at the New England reginal. We use dead reckoning and just have the robot dump.. It works most of the time. :)

Team 716 was able to cap the center home goal consistently during autonomous mode. Even though we have always gone for the center home row goal, we can actually cap any of the home row goals, depending on where we start at the beginning of the match. We start out with one of the tetras you are allowed to start with, and we don't use a vision system. We just use a dead reckoning program. We have a rookie programmer this year (Dillon, also known as CmptrGk), and so we didn't try out anything new with sensors and such, although we did play around with them at the beginning of this season. Anyways, I thought we did pretty well in terms of autonomous modes this year, especially considering the fact that this is Dillon's first year as a programmer, and more than half of the teams out there don't even have an autonomous mode.

Team 237 capped the vision tetra on the side goal in the middle row during autonomous during a qualifying match in NJ.

Team 33 caps a corner goal every time in auto.
We have been able to reliably cap with the given tetra using our gyro and Hall sensors.

As far as I remember, you start on the side and drop the tetra on the side goal.. why would you need a gyro?

We were automatic at regionals from capping the sides and knocking the tetra off, ask anyone who went to UCF about our auto mode.
We cap the center home goal with the starting tetra incredibly consistently, then we have several options where to go from there including:
1. Right side autoloader
2. Left side autoloader
3. Knock down right corner
4. Knock down left corner
5. Sit there

Dont you mean "Mars Rock Autonomous" :ahh:

Because that what determines the extent of the turn.

254 can cap every time in auto. In qualifying today at the silicon valley regional we only missed once, and that was because the tetra fell off for some odd reason.

have you capped the center in autonomous with the vision tetras?

I know that team 401 capped the corner goal that they started next to with a starting tetra. At VCU I believe that they only missed once and they went on to win the regional.

After today we've joined the capper gang. We capped the corner goal with the starting tetra all but one or two of our 9 matches today. We just used some wheel counters to keep it relativly consistent, although i'm pretty sure dead reckoning would have worked.

ok know my question is without dead rec. i notice a lot of teams are using it now i just want to know about which teams are using the actual camera to cap in auto.

To clear things up for those unclear on the concept, I'm pretty sure this is about capping the vision tetra in autonomous. Capping a given tetra is great, but I've only seen 66 actually cap the vision tetra in auto. Anyways, back to your regularly scheduled CD...
We used the camera to cap in autonomous.
We can cap the left, center, or right goal in the "home row" in autonomous mode when we start with a tetra.
Taking what Johnny B already said:
we cap the center goal 100% now in autonomous mode. From there, we can do whatever we really need.
Taking the scripting FIRST 'gave' us this year, we've developed a similar system but all 100% original code that allows us to script autonomous modes very quickly.
We utilize left and right free spinning encoders, a pot on each joint (2 joints) and a pneumatic cylinder we maintain the position of in code.
Although we have yet to code an autonomous mode from a diagram and use it in an actual elimination match, nationals might be the time that comes.
Currently, I am working on two different projects to theoretically enable us to cap any goal: a) a free text parser that writes autonomous modes b) a gui that you can use to create autonomous modes.
The only reason our team has the luxury to do these crazy things is because with the no work periods, the programmers would get bored. :o)

hey thanks Kevin for clearing that up yes please only teams that have capped a goal in auto with a camera and the Bot actually finding the tetra and picking it up and placing it on a goal

our auto mode is to knock down the hanging tetra, cap the center back goal and the drive into the loading zone to our side.

Team 1559 capped a corner goal everytime. Flawless!

Team 980 did it 9 or ten times at SVR . We start holding a tetra and as we lift it up it knocks the magnetic tetra down then we spin and cap the center goal every time.
We have also managed to cap the center goal with a vision tetra 6 times in under 15 seconds but only at home, somehow we only went as far as doing it once on the practice field at SVR.
We will keep trying maybe we'll pull it off by nationals along with the rest of the teams that are working hard at this.

well congrats to those who have capped in auto with the camera and not doing dead reck.. it is extremely hard to understand and takes patients. continue on posting i lovee to read about other teams success. once again make sure that you are only reporting goals capped with the camera

As a field volunteer I can honestly say that the FIRST calibration is not very good. Due to changing field conditions, and a general indifference by the field staff (after all how many teams use the vision tetras?) create virtually unusable calibration. For instance, at SVR, we got a calibration of 97 for green. We then re-did the calibration with the vision tetra rotated ~5 deg and got 32. We posted "97/32" in the pit; really useful for teams.
From a strategy standpoint, I think that it may be almost as useful to knock down the corner tetra and cap the center, giving the alliance 15 points in autonomous. One act which seems very hard is to cap the center home tetra starting from the center (forward position) with the starting tetra. We seemed to be the only team at SVR which could do so. Also, I think that it is surprising that in many ways, the real "autonomous challenge" has not been the vision tetras, but the starting tetra and hanging tetras.
On the topic of mythical FIRST things, has any regional other than SVR had real time scoring working consistantly?
