That Kilt was taken from one of our mentors, our robot had "kilts" on them so we had our drive team and some mentors wear them. In the pits our mentor was wearing his kilt and some one stopped by and said that a VIP or something like that wanted a kilt to wear. Lou Rosanio, lead adult mentor of our Pit crew, turned around and pulled off his kilt. All of the students in the pit either turned away and covered there eyes or just had blank stares on there faces.
What we didn't know was that Lou was wearing regular shorts under his kilt. It was one of those funny/scary moments.

A little side note, all three of the mentors who are mentioned in this thread, Dave Lavery, Lou Rosanio and Karthik are all Woodie Flowers winners this year. So mentors it seems like if ya want the WFA it might be a good idea to put on a kilt :)

For the record, none of the pictures in this thread are in the hopper for the caption contest.

Also for the record, my laptop hasn't been connecting to the network at USC since late Sunday night (before this thread was created), and thus I've been unable to bookmark new images for the contest. Computer Services is sending someone in the morning. :D

I think Karthiks was put with out his consent for some strange reason. Look at his face, he's like "Seriously, who did this??!?!?!?!". Are there any teams that use kilts as part of their uniforms?

to bad no one got a picture of big mike, dressed like a big pimp at NJ regional, i had a team 41 fuzzy pimp hat, and team 157 big star sunglasses, and to complete the ensable, 869 had blue smock things

I asked the FIRST rep there if dave lavery would think i was pimp, i dont think he got the joke but laughed anyway :)

The reason that Karthik was wearing jeans was so that there was enough substance to keep him standing. Bean stalks look more manly than Karthiks legs.

Kate00
05-04-2005, 21:55
Yes, it's from SWAT. And I have the video. 3 clips, to be precise. 2 of Shyra putting it on him, one of him putting it on himself. Looking very proud that he's figured it out. I'll put it up on our website soon!

And I also have a few more pictures...

How about some kind of trade? You must know how extremely broke I am.

Plus, this "Karthik Kilting" video must be like one of those Master card "priceless" commercials... FIRST Kit $5000, Tim Horton's for 6 week build period $100, 40 S.W.A.T. shirts $600, St. Mildred's Kilt $80, Watching Karthik dancing around in a that Kilt at GTR...PRICELESS!

Pardon my ignorance, but I am fuzzy on the whole who exactly gets to wear kilts in Scotland thing. SWAT is an all-girls team, am I correct? Do girls normally wear kilts in Scotland? If not, then I submit that Karthik is, in fact, wearing a SKIRT (even if it's truly a kilt), and the level of public ridicule on these forums should be increased to reflect this.

Please correct me if I am wrong. Either way, Karthik looks like he was born to wear that thing. You go, girrrrrrrrrl! *three snaps in a Z-formation*

Kate00
05-04-2005, 22:51
I'm really not sure, but most private schools have checkered skirts, which have traditionally been called kilts because they are made of tartan.

Or I could be totally wrong, I'm just guessing.

Karthik himself calls it a skirt in a clip that I have, so I'm pretty sure where this ridicule thing will go...

(And if anyone has any idea how to get a quicktime movie onto the internet, could they PM me with instructions? I'm not quite sure how...)

Karthik
05-04-2005, 23:01
I can't believe this is happening...

Ever have that feeling when you're about to do something, and somehow you know you're going to be ridiculed for it, yet you do it anyways...

Well, at least I'm still stylin', even when wearing a kilt/skirt or whatever you want to call it...

Well, a kilt is usually a knee-length skirt (there is the answer to your question it is a skirt) with pleats that is usually of a tartan wool, in other words plaid. Traditionally the kilt is worn as part of the dress for men in the Scottish Highlands. There is a similar skirt in Scotland that boys, girls and women wear. Although it is a kilt, Karthik (I am guessing) is not of Scottish heritage so i submit he is definitely wearing a skirt.

I must say that when I was putting it on you .. I was slightly scared for my life. But then I thought .. "oh well .. it's worth it."

And no matter what you say Karthik .. you enjoyed wearing it .. you wore it for matches that we weren't even playing in .. though i do remember one match where you wanted to feel more "manly" so it became a cape. Karthik, don't let what other people say discourage you. If you want to wear a kilt, then wear it proudly.

Now if you would excuse me i have to go pack before I flee this country in the interest of my safety ..

Karthik -

Welcome to my world.

At least you don't have Heidi to worry about.

Very true Dave, Heidi is the reigning champion of embarrassment. But there's a new up and comer, my dear roommate, Ian Mackenzie. Let me present the case...

In the fall of 2004 Ian posted a picture of me mesmerized by a children's computer game (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30947).

In February he posted an audio clip of me singing (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=333735&postcount=44), which he discreetly recorded at some point.

And most recently, he generously offered to host the Kilt Video. After I watched the video, I walked over to his room where Ian just looked at me, and burst into hysterics...

Ian may fool you into thinking that he spends all his time designing cool robots, but in reality he's secretly plotting some new scheme.

I must say, the looks on my face while wearing that kilt are priceless. Team 771, just remember the Canada's Wonderland off-season event is in September. It's a big theme park, with lots of room for pranks. Be warned... :D

Girls beware, Karthik seems to come out of nowhere. He's like a sheet of paper, so very thin until he turns sideways and then ..... He's still very thin. :D

Dave we know that you were wearing a kilt. Karthik was wearing a plaid skirt. There is a difference.

Oh, for shame, for shame. You two should be proud of these pictures. Think of the joy photos such as these bring to the hearts of those who view them. Is there anything more beautiful than the laughter of a child? Or seeing a teenager smile in delight? Think of these pictures as a celebration of all that is right in the world and embrace the fact that you are a part of it.

And remember, it could always be a lot worse, for example, I could have used the banana picture... ;)

For those of you who go to the Indy 500 my comment will be funny...He looks like one of the drummers from the Gordon Pipers! Or one of the kids who walk the Scotties. (FYI: The Gordon Pipers are one of t he most historic "Irish Folk Music" groups. They play bagpipes, drums and have 2 little scotty dogs. They are a centerpiece to the Indianapolis 500 pre-race ceremonies. Great site to see!)
