View Full Version : Field Match Lists and Webcast
Hey everyone! My company is holding a webcast party to watch the Championships. This will be the first time I've watched the Champsionships via Webcast and I have a few quick questions about them:
1) Does anyone know if Match Lists will be posted on the FIRST website for all the fields? Would an extremely generous set of volunteers in Atlanta be willing to post all the matchs on each field in a thread on CD if FIRST isn't able to do so?
2) Will all four field be webcast during the qualification rounds? If so, how do we switch between the different fields? Are there 4 seperate webcast feeds? Is there a URL which will show all the seperate feeds to each field?
Thanks in advance!!!

In response to your second question, in the past all four have been webcast separately. There should be 4 links off this (http://robotics.nasa.gov/events/webcasts/championship.htm) page.

What about on NASA Tv?
Is it one feed for all 4 fields?? All at the same time, or switching back and forth between the 4 fields?

No clue about NASA TV. I would assume that they rotate fields or something.

They switch back and forth among the fields, and it's seemingly at random. In the past they haven't even shown full matches.

Um.
See the FIRST Championship LIVE on NASA TV:
Friday, April 22, 2005 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. EST
Saturday, April 23, 2005 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST
NASA TV
Click here for the NASA TV webcast
No links to any field webcasts at all. Based on previous years, will they be appearing tomorrow (or early Friday morning) or will we just have to depend on NASA-TV? Given the one regional that had its finals truncated, I really don't want to have to do the latter....
Yeah, I'm a little worried. I don't see links for individual webcasts for each field.
It almost sounds like it will be just one webcast of only the NASA TV feed. :(
Hopefully we'll see those links soon enough. There are a ton of teams I want to follow, and it would be a shame if we couldn't pick and choose which fields to watch.

In previous years, like 2003, I was able to watch all four championship field webcast at the same time. I hope it will be the same this year.

W00t, was poking around a little and found that http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/robotics/ will once again be serving our Championship needs. This time, it not only has Archimedes, Curie, Galileo, and Newton, but it also has the Lego League and Vex fields as well.
So it seems that we won't be stuck with the NASA-TV webcast after all. /me breathes a sigh of relief.

Still wondering over here what is gonna be on NASA Tv.. are they gonna split the screen in 6 parts?? Or keep randomly moving to fields..
Meh.. Only time, and a VHS tape will tell me Friday when I get home from werk.. :ahh:
I'll make my lil' sister watch it too, so she can tell me what is going on.. They have this week off from school.

Is there a way to capture the webcast video? I am thinking of starting a Vex team and it would be great to show footage of the Championships

I'm pretty sure you can download software that will capture streaming feeds that you can later transfer to tape or whatever you need.
But if not the SOAP guys from SigmaCats might be capturing everything including vex and FLL and have those on their site, like they usualy do with the regular webcast.
And to answer the origional question about match lists, who knows this year, FIRST might have the stuff on their website they might not, i'm hoping by now those issues with posting match results should be figured out and they should have quality internet connections for the scoring tables at this event so they should in theory have them online as soon as they are generated and their server script update them. IF not, someone at the scoring table might be able to post them or some team might be able to post them.

I'm going to attempt to use my S-Video to my Vcr cable and tape the webcast of Galileo directly, as a back-up for my NASA Tv channel recording ventures...
I'll let you all know how it works tomorrow night.. If I remember. :)

The archimedes webcast seems to break up every now and then for a while. Does this happen for anyone else?

That was happening for me at well, although I wasn't sure whether or not it was my school's connection.

The KSC/NASA page does mention that the webcast is from 8-5pm, maybe it has an automatic shutoff.

The NASA webcast as seen on NASA TV is from 1-5 pm Friday and 8am-5pm Saturday.
I would think that they may have finished matches for the day. Either that or they are having technical trouble (which isn't uncommon for a short period).
I hope the webcasts tomorrow are better and don't cut in and out as much as they did today. I got a decent amount of time on the Archimedes, Galileo, and VEX webcasts and the VEX webcast seemed to be working the best. Higher quality than the others and it didn't cut out at all while I was watching it.

Nasa TV = Switches back and forth between fields at like 10 - 15 secs intervales (maybe more).
Nasa Web Cast = 4 Different links for each division during qualification rounds - 4 different links leading to the main championship rounds on einstein and awards ceremony (each link leads to the same screen)
As per a very earlier request, I would love to post the match list for Thursday but the way the matches ran were very poor at least a 1/2 day in on Galileo, After lunch everything finally caught up but we were still about 30 minutes behind =(

I haven't been to Atlanta, so I don't know the situation there. When the Championship was at EPCOT, the fields and pits were in tents on a parking lot, and the tents would leak if it rained (which it always seemed to do, at least one day -- the HOTBOT was covered by many Mickey ponchos!!). We didn't need to in Houston, and I thought Atlanta was a dome too, and wouldn't need to either.

You shouldn't have to unless you are afraid someone will mess with your robot, which everyone should be gracious enough to leave alone. The way the pits and field are set up in atlanta is that you play in the Georgia Dome and have a pit that is in another building. Its like a 300 ft walk from the exit of the pit to the enterance of the Fields. BUt its all in a building so you shouldn't have to cover them now.

I always thought we covered our robot so it could sleep. There really wasn't a reason for it other than the protection from the weather in Florida or the fun of "unveiling" it every morning.

Try http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/robotics/
It is the seperate 4-feed site, but the quality is not the best :ahh:
what you see there is what is on the screen there

Juat as a proud parent tucks their child in to bed at night, some FIRST teams full of proud "parents" tuck in the robot for the night.
Just a guess.. :)
Well Nasa TV just came on. It's showing lego league now. I would have never thought my dorm would have nasa tv!!

Ok well.. it's technically not "tomorrow night" but here is the status.
:p to Jess. I still remembered.
So, Friday I taped the feed from Einstein for opening ceremonies and then Galileo for the rest of the day (Thanks to my Mom for doing that while I was at work!) off of laptop to VCR but I forgot my S-Video cable doesn't transfer sound when not connected to an S-Video port and only RCA Video.
So for Friday I have all video of Einstein, and Galileo minus sound.
Friday night after spending an hour fiddling with my Dad's VCR and pressing this button and that button and setting up a tape to record NASA TV it finally worked for the next day..
NASA TV basically switched from field to field, and it was timed almost perfectly, when a match finished a new field came up. Kudo's to the operators of the Broadcast!
Saturday however, not only did I have the NASA TV tape running at Dad's house, but at my Mom's house, I had the S-Video set-up, but this time I got smart and ran the headphone to RCA sound cable out of laptop and into VCR to make sound.. w00t!!
So, not only do I have (8 hours) of NASA TV broadcast on Tape, but I have a direct feed from Real Player to VHS tape for all off Galileo's Elimination matches, and some of Archimedes' and Galileo's finals matches, and then Einstein's Awards and finals matches.
But I missed the Chairman's Award and the other big awards cause I ran out of tape.
All in all a rather successful taping endeavour, and a great learning experience.
<Hey, I had to keep myself busy Saturday so I didn't go more crazy than I already was for not being in Atlanta... >
I will tell you though, it got kind of quiet around the house when that 7:00 time came and the web-casts went blank.
Maybe next year someone can stream the team party too??
And the pits???
I don't know, maybe I am asking too much. But then again, if you don't aim high and ask for a lot then nothing will ever change. :)
Holy cow I spent 15 minutes typing this. :ahh:

Or you could just go to the championship next year and not mess with any webcasts .
