I would like to know what other people think of this game I made over the past few weeks. The game is a replica of the 2005 FRC game Triple Play. I really like it and would like to know about any ideas and/or comments about the game. It isn't quite complete it still needs a good intro and main page. But how is it so far? I also don't know how to advertise it to others so if you want you could tell others or put a link to it.

Game Play
The main point of this game is to move the robot around and pick up the tetras and put them on to the goals. Another is to get the most points in the 2 min they give you. and other variables influence play like damage and battery life. To pick up a tetra from the ground you must have the arm down, to pick a tetra up from blue human loaders and auto loaders you must have arm at the middle level, and to put a tetra on any goal you must have the arm up.

Controls
move = arrow keys
arm up = home
arm middle = page up
arm down = page down
claw open = shift //not completely working yet
claw closed = ctrl //not completely working yet

One thing i would like to do is save high scores but i don't know how. So if you know how and have sample files or you have a tutorial that would be very useful to have.

I think it would be cool if there was a computer that would go against you, but im guessing it would be hard to do. i guess another thing is that you should be able to stack the side goals with the middle hieght i think...

It would be very difficult to add an opponent so i won't go there right now.
The middle arm height isn't high enough to do that and I am tring to make it as realistic as possible.

i got 80 points,

but it turn out that it gives you a 10 point bunous any time theres three tetras, so it gives you 13 points if you already have a row and then score another tetra on that row.

i just got 100 :)

Huzzah! 107, all nine capped.

It's a great way to keep from doing my english paper play around with some free time--I love it. Outside of the cosmetics you mentioned, I would suggest adding a restart button, so you don't have to reload the page every time the clock runs out.

Or, if you are feeling frisky, how about a two-player mode? (P1 takes the arrows and those other buttons, P2 uses WASD and nearby keys)

All in all, great jorb.

I got a 113 with the center row stacked 2 tetras high and the end stacked 1 high and a row along the bottom and I had the robot in the endzone at the end.

Nice work on this. Took me a while to figure out how to place tetras, but I got it eventually.

You can pick up tetras from the loading zones without being in the triangle. Maybe you should asses penalties for that. :)

That is so awesome!! May i suggest that eventually there are several options for your robot aka you can chose to be fast with a slow arm or slow with a fast arm?

Very cool game. You have a future programing flash games. I wish my robot could single handedly get 100+ points a round. Now for some constructive criticism

Pros:
Arm height variation
claw (when u get it working)
field was flawless
damage counter
battery life

Cons:
no competition ( i know that would be hard)
human zone is instantaneous
robot is a lot slower than most real robots

And some ideas:
have the robot slow down a little as the battery drains
make it so that u can release tetras
have red tetras randomly appear as 'competition'

What kind of strategies are you guys using?

I am starting by grabbing a "vision" and going down field then going to autoload and taking it down field and working my way back to my home row...what other ways are you guys playing this game?

Those are good ideas i will try to add some of them.
It may be a little while till i can update the game because i missed 3 days of school for nationals and finals arn't to far away but i will defiantly keep it updated.
I'm going to add a really nice intro with the story behind FIRST so people who don't know about it will understand.

Amazing game I love it.
If you have time you could make it so that the more points you score you get upgrades to your robot to make it move faster, etc. Maybe levels with opponents. That must be hard though. But overall this game is INSANE, once you perfect it I suggest you send it to some online flash game websites, i'm sure they'll be happy to host it. :D

I love this game. I tried making a game like it with our robot but I know nothing of Actionscript coding in Flash. Their claw was to keep hold of the tetras. I know this all too well. They defeated us in the finals at St. Louis, good job guys.

i have yet to play this game...but it's taking up a lot of some of mine friend's time...so it must be good....

i saw it though and it looks great!! great job!! eventually i'll play...in a few weeks then i can have all the fun i want..i can't wait....

I don't know of any, but I bet there's a robot out there that can!
1089 (my team) could stack 7....and that was pretty much the highest I saw.

Is the ratio of bettery consumption in normal speed equal to the ratio of battery conumption in high speed? It seemed unbalanced, touch the boost and the battery drops like a rock, but go without the boost and drive for miles.. it seems.
And I know it is just a game but if yuo are looking for reality why is there a batery meter? In a two minute match the 18 amp hour batteries we have do quite well. I think the time is a tough enough limit to beat.

Um...I played three times, the first time seemed fine. The second match ended with 40 seconds left. (the clock only got down to 40 and the score screen popped up) The third match ended with 49 seconds left. It appears to be a glitch or something.

what about your battery and or damage??

if you boost a lot or hit stuff a lot, you will "die" early, and not get the full time allotted

Cool game, for the online scoring system it shouldn't be too hard. Just make it POST data to a PHP page that puts it in a MySQL database. Then a page that retrieves from the MySQL and prints the top 10 scores. If you can make it POST data to a page, I'll gladly do the rest for you.

EDIT: Maybe a pause button too...

Has anyone run this in Firefox? I am using FireFox 0.8, and I can't seem to get anything from the auto or human loaders. Just the two that are on the field at the beginning.

Or maybe I missed something in the instructions?

(edit: when all else fails, read the directions -- "to pick a tetra up from blue human loaders and auto loaders you must have arm at the middle level, and to put a tetra on any goal you must have the arm up." I see.)

New thing, maybe make the arm up/middle/down buttons different. On almost every keyboard those buttons are in a different setup, and I know on mine at least it's pretty awkward using them. How about, arm up: 8 on the number pad; middle: 5; down: 2?

I saw a few questions so here are a few answers.

-The claw did have a use but i can only get it to work one way. You can't pick or drop a tetra without the claw open. I was going to drop it if you move abruptly but i can't get it to work correctly so it is now there to look nice. use Shift and Ctrl to open and close.

-The buttons are pretty weird because I am limited on which buttons I can use in Flash. i would use the letter keys but they don't work correctly and have lots of problems.

-About the cheat codes. I have quite a few so here are some. If you post a score please say which cheat code you used.

2xbatt - 2 times the battery life
dewalt - 2 times the speed
icey - Drift mode (fun)
Armor - Extra strength
2xtime - 4 min. timer
die - instant game over (really stupid)
icey+ - Drift mode with Armor

Oh I also have a downloadable version of the game. Here it is
