* I want to explain the dinner reservation fee incuded above.

We have included dinner as part of the IRI since 2002. Last year we also added a breakfast. We think these are special extras that help make the IRI such a great event and is an opportunity to sit and talk with friends, both old and new.

Our only problem is that we ask teams to tell us "how many for dinner"?
Last year for dinner we had 'reservations' for almost 900, and about 650 actually ate dinner. We wasted a lot of food. For breakfast, we had reservations for about 600 and I think less than 200 showed. We wasted even more food.

We hope that by adding the $1 per person reservation fee, that teams will be a little more accurate and we can buy and cook enough, but not way too much. We will have tickets or wrist bands or something.

We still want everyone to stay and eat, then go to the talent show, but it really bothers us to waste a lot of food because there is not much we can do with it after it is cooked.

Hopefully everyone understands our dilema and is OK with this solution. :)

Gee willikers, Chris, we even fed the IRI teams back in 2000 and 2001 when the IRI was in Kokomo. 2001 was a special year when we "processed" one of the hogs (http://www.technokats.org/images/pig%20drop/technopig.jpg) from my parents' farm in Monticello. This guy turned into some sweet-tasting prok bar-b-que. Ah, the memories.

Good idea on the $1 reservation per person, btw.

Satrday morning 'breakfast' will proabaly be donuts, coffee, juice, etc.
in the parking lot or on the sidewalks. Still working details.

a July morning in Indy could be 60 degrees or 80 degrees, so we will have to be flexible.

May 16th eh? Now that someone outside of the website developement team has put a date on all of this, i guesse we have to double our efforts.

Rest assured. http://indianafirst.org will be back up and running soon. With all the stuff you need to know about IRI, Registration, and some other great new content we are really excited about.

Stay Tuned!

(Our forums are still up and runing, if you guys want to discuss stuff over there as to not crowd these forums up with our silly midwest chatter)

Sorry, but for the IRI 2001 I was just a wide-eyed new kid. I think Scott just asked me to go because I had a van to take a bunch of kids.

Payment will be due by July 1 so we can confirm everything.

Registration doesn't begin until May 16, so there isn't a team list yet.

As it is an "Invitational" it is first opened up to all the Indiana teams interested attending, and usualy all of them do, but who knows maybe someone wont show up this year, but regardless you can assume that all teams from the state of Indiana would be there, so there is a preliminary team list. Based just off that, there is going to be some great competition with alot of famous and historicly great teams.

Andy, I can't believe that you tatooed that poor hog. Thats almost as bad as me spray-painting chipmunks yellow and silver to prove that they can return to their homes from 30+ miles away!

About this backpack deal, which is an excellent idea by the way, what exactly are you looking for in it? Its been a while since second grade, so some sort of guidlines would be really great if there is anything specific that you want.

Seems like Andy's tattoo was the least of that hog's problems, since he ended up as guest of honor at the IRI barbeque. :yikes:

OK, I need some help here guys.

I would love to come to IRI, and my daughter who will be a senior next year would like to visit Purdue this summer.

I need to travel with my wife and 4 kids (our 5th is in college) from Florida. We would probably fly up to Cincinnati or Indianapolis the weekend before and fly out the Sunday afterwards (1 week trip).

Our 15 year old twins (boy and girl) have no desire to travel to the midwest - it doesn't sound like fun to them. Our other daughter is 9. I need to figure out how to sell this idea.

What is there to do in Indiana and vicinity (within a couple days travel) that we could plan for fun as a family?

There are a few good museums in Indianapolis, among them:

1) Children's Museum of Indianapolis--It's not just for children.
http://www.childrensmuseum.org/generalinfo/generalinfo.htm
2) Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum
http://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/museum/
3) Indiana State Museum
http://www.in.gov/ism/

There are some very good amusement parks not too far away, like King's Island in Cincinnati, and Cedar Point (http://www.cedarpoint.com) in Sandusky, Ohio. The Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio is about 2 hour's drive from Indianapolis.

I hope this helps. If there are some specific things you are looking for, let us know, and maybe some of us who have spent a lot of years in Indiana can help.

Hi Gary,

Well, I don't know how big your kids are into racing, but the Indianapolis Speedway was pretty cool when we went there (they take you on the track). That's all I know, but I'm from MI and have only been there once. As incentive for the girls to come? Tell them that there will be lots and lots of boys at the robot competition. If that doesn't get them to come, then you might need a bit more help...

I highly recommend King's Island (just northeast of Cinicinnati) - great amusement park.

There's also a park south of Indy, but it is much smaller.

Check out www.indy.org

There's a lot of things to do. White River State Park is a really nice area to just hang out, walk around, do whatever. The canal walk is nice, and some of the museums/attractions are accessible from within the park.

There's some caves in southern IN, and some over the border in KY, I think. And of course, a visit to Purdue. You might try to make a few contacts (if you haven't already) with some of the Boiler Invasion 461 students, if they happen to be around, they can tour you around the campus.

Will there be any rule changes to the Triple Play rules implemented?

I'd personally at least like to see the return of the Yellow/Red System. (See here:http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29534 for more details)

And when will the dinner #s and money be due? Just want to know when I need to have a final number of people attending by.

Thanks guys.

There's always the The Indianapolis Zoo (http://www.indyzoo.com/), The Children's Museum of Indianapolis (http://www.childrensmuseum.org/catalog/home.asp), The Indiana State Museum (With IMAX Theatre) (http://indiana-state-museum.visit-indianapolis.com/), and many other things to do as well. (http://www.indygov.org/Visiting/home.htm)

And that's just Indianapolis.

If you're coming in through Cincinnati, check out Paramount's Kings Island. (http://www.pki.com/)

Do they like roller coasters? If so, I say go to Cedar Point. They can ride the world's largest collection of roller coasters (includung the world's...second....tallest/fastest roller coaster, Top Thrill Dragster)

Voted best amusment park in the world 7 years in a row!

Cedar Point isn't exactly in the vacinity to Indiana... it's a good 6-7 hour drive from here, I think. But it is the best coaster park hands down.

For those parents/engineers that REALLY, REALLY want to come to IRI, have small children, and need a way to entertain them while the event is going on, one option (albeit expensive) is the Indianapolis Holiday Inn Caribbean Cove at the Pyramids (http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hd/indno?irs=null). It is literally right off the expressway, has a waterpark inside (with slides that extend outside the hotel, very cool), and is, from what I can tell, the next best thing to Disney World (well, maybe, but you can tell your kids that). For older children, you may want to look at some of the different attractions in Indy, too. Look at some of the cool restaurants (http://www.cheeseburgerinparadise.com/locations/indianapolis.asp), the Indianapolis Zoo (http://www.indyzoo.com/), the White River Gardens (http://white-river-gardens.visit-indianapolis.com/), or for a spouse and teenagers, keep 'em busy at the Circle Centre Mall (http://www.indy.org/indianapolis/web/jsp/whattodo/detail.jsp?c=7013237:circlecentre:showhide&x=1116282279280)- two blocks, and four floors of shopping.

Hopefully, this will be enough to get some of you guys (coughkressly and dillardcough) out here for the famous IRI. Whatever kinds of entertainment your family may decide on, just please remember my post about Indiana Beach (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=168082&postcount=118) in the 2003 IRI thread. Again, all I have to say is 'uggggggg'. ;)

Unless you like looking at hundreds of disgusting carp feeding on people's random overthrown items, a lot of untamed mullets, and swimming in 'Purified Well Water!' (that's straight from their signs). Maybe I'm just prissy from being raised next to Chicago all of my life, but I'm still gagging from the thought of those nasty fish.Sweet...I'll have to pass that info onto our buddy EVK...although we may have to pull him out of there kickin' and screamin' (or hootin' and hollerin') to get him to make the DSK gig :ahh:

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this so far, but Chicago is only a 3-4 hour drive from Indy, depending on your starting point in Indy and your Chicago destination.

Chicago attractions include:
Six Flags Great America (http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatamerica/index.asp)
Chicago Botanic Gardens (http://www.chicagobotanic.org)
Zoos, Shopping, Lake Michigan, and Much more.

You could always go south. Louisville, KY is about 2-1/2 hours away from Indy. Cave City (Mamoth Cave National Park) is 1-1/2 hours south of Louisville.
My wife and son and his friend made that road trip last year- thought it was great!

Well, since basically all the IN teams are attending IRI, and they all attended Boilermaker, if they are reading this then perhaps they can bring theirs from the Boilermaker Regional. And, there are several other teams going to IRI that attended Boilermaker that could bring theirs also. That would help reduce the cost, time, and coordination needed for IRI nametags.... Probably at least half the teams going to IRI have Boilermaker tags.

Otherwise, maybe they can have all new IRI souvenirs.. like you suggested... :)

Just an FYI for everyone who didn't know (From Andy Baker and the ref crew via IRI Update Emails):

3. The referee crew has made two tweaks to the rules for this year's IRI:

3.1. A robot's drive base will be considered "in" the tetra LOADING ZONE if the 28"x38" section of the robot's drive base is positioned OVER the HDPE triangle. Robots will be able to straddle the point and have their drive base over the point of the triangle without touching the triangle to be considered "in" the LOADING ZONE (HP or Auto). Keep in mind that if the robot is not obviously over the triangle while grabbing a tetra, the referee signal a penalty.

3.2. The "Yellow Card / Red Card" system used at the 2004 IRI is BACK! (by popular demand)Referees have the ability to give a yellow card and a red card to any team at any time during the IRI competition. Each team can only be given one yellow card during the entire competition, regardless of the situation. A yellow card is a stern warning, stating that the team came very close to getting a red card (DQ). A red card signifies a disqualification of a team. Red cards may be given without a yellow card warning, if the situation is clearly a DQ. This is simply a clear method of communication for the referees. This system gives teams a second chance during a situation where their actions were borderlining a disqualification, while warning that if any borderline action is repeated, then a DQ will follow.

Just an FYI for everyone who didn't know (From Andy Baker and the ref crew via IRI Update Emails):

3. The referee crew has made two tweaks to the rules for this year's IRI:

3.1. A robot's drive base will be considered.....then a DQ will follow.

You can read that info and much more here!

Quick question...

Has there been any estimated time as to when the talent show will begin? The closest thing I have gotten is after the matches on Friday and I really need to know more about what time it is.

To answer some of the questions -

I was late sending out the volunteer assignments.
If you volunteered and did not hear from me, please PM me,
because I think I assigned everybody and replied to everybody.

The talent show should start about 7 PM.
Matches will go to about 6, then there is dinner, so we are guessing about 7.

Remember, it is Indiana, and we measure time by the change in the height of the grass, so be flexible...... :)

So to answer questions about the webcast, hopefully i will have a page online by the end of the day with all the info about the live coverage. So keep checking indianafirst.org for more info on that.

Sorry for the last minuteness of the webcasting, but i will get the info out to everyone as soon as i have it.

Announcing: IRI Live Coverage 2005!
http://www.indianafirst.org/irilive

In an effort to constantly push IRI to bigger and better things, it is my pleasure to announce IRI Live 2005.

IRI Live 2005 is a culmination of webcast/webcam/interactive shoutbox/image gallery/ and live scores/rankings.

Throughout the competition IRIlive2005 will be updated with new data so that your getting the live coverage of whats going on here in Indiana. But its not just one sided.

Anyone can log on and watch the webcast/webcam and view the results, but then you can share your thoughts and observations in the shoutbox!

Plus if your attend the event you can either join the IRI flickr group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/indianafirst) if you tag your IRI 2005 photos with the tag "iri2005' they will be displayed on the flickr badge on the IRI page.

One of the coolest features of IRIlive2005 is that all the content on the page refreshes itself so you can just leave the page open and everything will stay upto date without you having to do anything!

Thanks to B Money Martus for his help on this project, hope that people find this service useful, and I hope to see everyone who is attending in a couple days!

Josh

Are there any Premier Pits locations still available? - roflol
We came into some extra cash; not really, just forgot about them being there.

Last I heard there are no "Primier Pit locations".

There are only 10 pits in the main gym this year. All of those pits went to teams who had something to do with organizing the event or helping the organizers of the event. So, we played favorites with the people who help organize the event by putting their pit in the main gym.

So, the moral of the story is, if you want a main pit gym next year,
you need to become a favorite by introducing the organizing team to your friends -
Mr. Jackson, Mr. Grant or Mr. Franklin. (Mr. Franklin is our favorite.)

You gotta figure it out.... ;)

We tried to, but you guys wouldn't take our extra money for a nice pit. Apparently the past winners from WI get no respect :p

Maybe a bigger venue for next year with all the pits next to the field.

Hey, fair is fair; the organizing teams deserve to get the primere locations. I'd be willing to bet thet even an introduction to my friends Mr. Smith & Mr. Wesson couldn't talk them out of one. ;) ;)
