When will a list of teams be posted?

Should be sometime tomorrow. I believe it was sent into the web dev office an hour ago or so.

Well, BattleCry reached 43 entrants by 1300 today. For folks still wanting to get in, please go ahead and register! If you are among the first 48 to sign-up you will almost certainly get in as teams' situations change. The reserve teams will be called up in the order that they are received.

Yep, turnabout is only fair--Team 190 traveled to IRI last year. And 971 is led by student leader Evan (CRUD name: Ryan) who attended WPI's Robotics Camp last year and pledged to return. These folks can PLAN on getting in--and we are still looking for about 3 more teams to fill in the BC6 reserve fleet.

It should be a great time, I know it was last year. Any chance we'll have a throwback tournament , a la last year, except perhaps with a later game as opposed to the 1992 game (or with the 1992 game again)? The team list looks great, and hopefully we can get Cyber Blue and MAX in too.

EDIT: Also, will there be "rule modifications" this year? I know last year the 10 pointers were knocked out onto the field after autonomous. Perhaps something with the hanging tetra this year?

We do have a few interesting bits in the planning. There will definitely be a "Special Operations" mini-robot driver's contest again. There is a fair chance that there will be a full scale concurrent VEX tournament as well. (Hint-hint: how many teams out there would compete in a VEX tournament? Drop me an email. We ran a 12-team VEX tournament last month--cool.)

After coordinating with BC5 veterans we have made a couple of changes to the rules, check out the site (http://www.wpi.edu/News/Events/BattleCry/rules.html).

BTW, we are still encouraging teams to sign up, based upon our experience, we can pretty much guarantee that the first 4 or 5 teams on the Ready Reserve will be called! So--MAX, CyberBlue, and AZTECHS--be READY!

Folks interested in volunteering should contact me via private message.

Last year there was a Battlecry STAR award, but i can't find any information about things like that on the website. Are you not doing that this year?

3. 30 point penalties will only be assessed for safety concerns. IE: These would normally only be appropriate for obstruction of a robot while in the process of loading at the human player loading station when the human player is off the pad.

Does that mean that 30 point penalties will not be given for loading zone infractions? Will any penalties be given for loading zone infractions?

Heretic121
04-05-2005, 18:22
i would assume here that it would just be a 10 pt penalty for the infraction just to say its still bad to do it, but not as severe of a penatly as it was in the season...

Ian Curtis
04-05-2005, 20:39
I'm pretty sure they mean that the penalty will be enforced like they said it would in update 4. (http://www2.usfirst.org/2005comp/Updates/Team_Update_04.pdf)

Ken can give you a different answer on this if I am wrong, but as far as we have discussed it, it means that 30pt penalties will only be given in the case when the human player is off the mat - when there is truly a safety risk. There will still be 10 pt loading zone penalties for when it is a loading zone violation, but not any safety risk.

Last year there was a Battlecry STAR award, but i can't find any information about things like that on the website. Are you not doing that this year?

As done in previous years, information about this, other awards, the human player and drivers skills test, will come out in SITREP's at a later date (the first one should be out soon). Look for it on the BattleCry6@WPI website (www.wpi.edu/+battlecry) under Tactical Updates.

You're IN! Check the latest roster (http://www.wpi.edu/News/Events/BattleCry/warriors.html). We still expect at least the next 3 teams on the Ready Reserve to get in.

How many qualification matches will a team get?
For the 36 teams arriving on Fri--you can plan on a total of 9 Qualifiers. Sat arrivals will get a few less. Due to the nature of BattleCry finals, ALL teams can also count on at least 2 additional matches during the eliminations.

I'm pretty sure they mean that the penalty will be enforced like they said it would in update 4. (http://www2.usfirst.org/2005comp/Updates/Team_Update_04.pdf)
Our changes intend to provide a bit more variety into the play. The situations described in Update 4 accurately define penalty situations--the difference is that the penalties described would be 10 pointers unless the infraction occurred at the human loading station AND the respective human player was actively engaged (IE either off the pad carrying a tetra to load or off the pad while returning to home). The exact wording will appear later on the site, but our intent is to 1) restore a legitimate defensive role into the game, 2) use the 30 pt penalty to discourage safety infractions, and 3) not allow BC 6 to become a robot-busting slam fest.

Hmm.. I think the more important question for this years BattleCry is... where the heck do we park??

If I am not mistaken, the Gym is to the right of that top picture, and that big hole/basement is where a parking lot used to be and most of us used to park.. :ahh:

Well I was bored today and even though it is not a final listing of teams I wrote a BattleCry story which can be read below. If I forgot your team or if you see a team I forgot please PM me. I'll rewrite when the final team list is finally final.

BattleCry!

“Attack!” cried the Duct Tape Bandits (467) as they charge down the hill in Gael Force (126) winds.

“Sir there’s no way we can put the PARTS (42) of this cannon together brought to us by the Trinity Pioneers (40) from Blackstone Valley (61),”said the JESTER (96), “its utter CHAOS (131).” The Birds of Prey (181) were circling overhead waiting for the battle to begin just as The Bobcats (177), the Bulldogs (1685), and The Tigertrons (222) were waiting in the foothills.

Thusly, the greatest battle of the off-season was about to begin. Gompei and the HERD (190) were banking on the Aztechs (157) and the Rhode Warriors (121) to show up and help them out of their predicament while the bandits hoped the Mechanical Marauders (271) would reinforce their attack. The HERD had started assembling the cannon but seemed short of a few Techno-nuts (155). Meanwhile a RAGE (173) had overtaken the bandits as they renewed there efforts on the magical gate built by the TechnoWizards (809) and The Dorks (1687). The newly arrived marauders tried to SPARK (563) a fire on the magic gate but it would not light. Unexpectedly Team MAX (1071) showed up and using a Kaizen Blitz (1276) tactic let loose even more Mechanical Mayhem (1519). Sie-H20-Bots showed up and tried to douse the mayhem but were quickly counterattacked by SciClones (596) created by the Robonauts (663) who had shown up in the Navigator (1686), their new ship. An Overclocked (246) Team GUS (228) and the Cruisin Crusaders (238) showed up. Meanwhile the Bandits had broken through the gate and taken a Buzz (175) saw to the still half built cannon. Team Paragon (571) and the Mechanicatz (1568) arrived at dusk when the action was settling down. Who will come out on top? Tune in for the next addition after the Chop Shop (166) gives their presentation on the formula TJ2 (88).

Comments anybody?

That is (or was) the parking lot that most people parked in. They did build a new lot (Higgins House Lot) to replace that one, and theres a couple other lots that you can park in (the West St. and Library lots), not as close as the quad but not too far of a walk either. I'm not saying WPI doesn't have parking issues - but there shouldn't be very many in the middle of June.

There will be a NEMO meeting tonight (Friday) from 7-7:30 p.m. at BattleCry at a location to be posted at the registration table.

NEMO (Non-Engineering Mentor Organization) is open to all college and adult mentors who work with travel, fundraising, public relations, mentor recruitment and retention, teambuilding, etc. It was created to foster friendships, exchange ideas and voice concerns. NEMO publishes white papers (some good ones for pre-rookie and rookie teams), and hosts workshops.

Please pass this along to the mentors on your team. We encourage each team at BattleCry to be represented at the meeting. Come prepared with your team's top three concerns!

There seem to be a lot of CD people going but no official webhug set up. I know it is kind of late notice but if others want I was thinking the best time would be tonight as soon as the dinner break starts (approx. 6:30). If the field is set up similar to last year then it will be easy for the people from the stands or pit to get to the field, so I'm thinking we could just meet on whichever side of the field is closer to the stands. Let me know if this works (or doesn't) for anyone else. I will be leaving today around 1:30 so if nobody has come up with a better place/time then I will print out some posters to put around WPI.

edit:there won't be any awards or anything like the nationals one - its just a chance to meet one another. I know I won't be able to see everyone that I want to there without some sort of official gathering so I thought this would work - if a few people could reply or PM me saying yes or no then I would know whether or not to do flyers and such.

EDIT 2: due to no responses I will just take a quick look there at 6:30 to see if anyone is there - I also didn't really leave enough time to make flyers or anything. I will be wearing a nametag from championships so if you see me please say hi.

Also, I am not sure if this is the right thread but it makes the most sense to put it here. Can anyone tell me
1. Who the top 14 seeds picked for their alliance partner.
2. What the elimination tree looked like at the end of the day (ie who lost when.)

I was there but didn't record any of it and need it to score the FF leagues.
