OK, OK, we get it. Some reasonable number of teams are going to show up somewhere in Indiana at some time during the summer, bringing along some number of robots, and they are all going to get together and do something. Some fun will be had by all.

But what we REALLY need to know is: when is someone going to start the critical "2005 IRI Music List" thread????!!!??!

It depends all on who is doing music for IRI this year. I'll offer up all my music that I had from last year's event to whoever is doing it... because it sure isn't me :]

C'mon you did an awesome job last year!

Hmm, I think I wil have to second Dave on this one. Can we have an all-Hendrix (and Zeppelin) IRI?

JackN

You can't have all Hendrix. You need to mix in some greats like The Who, The Beatles and all the music from the competitions. OK you don't need to have the music from the competitions.

Here kids, a great "old school" song...Eastbound and down by Jerry Reed. Can't fight a great like that.

Wayne Doenges

I'd prefer "Convoy" by C.W. McCall :D but East Bound and Down is good too.

How about some KISS and Twisted Sister.

I've been asked by a couple of people to do the music for IRI again this year. I helped David the first year it came to Indy and did it the year after that, I just submitted a registration form today, so we'll see.

Aye!!!

This sounds like a very dangerous slope indeed. Who knows what kind of music men like Dave listen to in their free time?

For all we know, he's got an iPod filled of audio that the two rovers have secretly recorded on Mars. ;)

Dave has too much music for iPod he has like a weeks worth. I must say that he did at one point threaten to put on the Carpenters if we didn't change the music. Even still I agree with the nominations (only because it's not just Dave)

I don't have that on my iPod, mostly becuase I don't have an iPod. But I did secretly sneak a special cut onto Sean's iPod when he wasn't looking, just to see his reaction when his tunes suddenly went from "Iron Man"/Black Sabbath and "Thin Line Between Love and Hate"/Iron Maiden to "Mmmmbop" by Hansen. (sometimes dads can be so mean! :D )

In the mean time, I hear a rendition of "Fly By Night" by Rush calling me (and if a certain lead singer for DS&TKB can ever hit the same notes that Geddy Lee could do, I will be REALLY impressed!).

I'm going to (finally) be bringing the FIRST Music Playlist 2004 CDs with me. That's about...200 songs or something. It's been a LITTLE bit updated with the 2005 season.

Here's the Excel file, if you want to know all the music titles: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=3364

Clark Gilbert

I guess if I'm going to be doing music for IRI I'll be posting .html playlist files sometime by the weekend and everyone can look over them and suggest stuff to add.

If you weren't around when this thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20353&highlight=IRI+Music) was created back in 2003, you may want to read it for a refresher (although it doesn't have very useful info in it). Maybe if I can catch David online sometime I'll see if he can add these .html playlists on the indianfirst.org website for people to look at.

From the Planning Committee:

Anything from the following playlist is acceptable, anything else is considered rubbish -

Rush
Led Zeppelin
Rolling Stones
Beatles (but only when they were a group - no solo junk)
Foreigner
Peter Frampton
KISS (anything before 1984)
Van Halen
Elton John
Boz Scaggs
Bruce Springsteen
DEVO
The Knack
Van Morrison
The Doors
The Cars
and, Cindi Lauper

Clark,
If you have trouble finding these, let me know and I can loan you my albums
(just don't scratch them!)

i've got a list in my head already in the works of stuff to suggest, altough in the past i think that several genres have been completely under represented in the IRI music, maybe my position in IndianaFIRST can help me put some more preasure for some of my favorites to get played:)

And clark, send me the html files jhambright@indianafirst.org
and i'll see that they make it online.

of course...what's even more disturbing is an old chris fultz bouncing around to the same record...on the same record player sitting in our computer room. :ahh:

I am going to have to throw in the annual Wisconsin request.

Cheeseheads with Attitude - Cheesehead Baby

Don't worry, I'll bring it for you ;)

D.J. Fluck

Cheeseheads with Attitude - Cheesehead Baby

If I were Clark, I would charge you a $10 playing fee just to play that song :p
------

Deep Purple - Smoke on the water
AC/DC - take your pick, theres a lot of songs you can play that will work
Morris Day & The Time - Jungle Love (Ill send you my version...its better then yours)

speaking of, its better then yours, in honor of Andy Baker, play the Milkshake song :p

Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls (among other songs you could play)
Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride
Thomas Dolby - Blinded me with science
Quiet Riot - Come on feel the noise

Im sure ill add to this later when I can take a look at my big playlist on my desktop

Is it just me or does anyone else find it a bit disconcerting that these two fine gentlemen keep referring to "LP's" and "albums"??!! IRI may have a tough time scrounging up a couple "phonographs" to play their music. :)

Dave - you always stuck me as a Segway riding, iPod wearing, PSP playing gadget geek kind of guy. Don't let all these young kids have fun with all this cool technology! Of course, none of them can say that their other car is on Mars!

My music suggestion -

Jamie Brockett - The Legend of the U.S.S. Titanic (EXTREMELY obscure studio demo that is amazing and hilarious all at the same time)

REO Speedwagon (the earlier albums)
Boston
Supertramp
The Clash
Aerosmith
Bad Company
The Allman Brothers
Deep Purple

Hmmmm....can't wait for IRI to see what the DJ's come up with!!

Collin Fultz

Numa Numa

Numa Numa Yei by O-Zone (I have a "legal" copy if you want it.)

And Sean-

If you need something to plan anything pre-tape I'm sure we could bring our record player (33's 45's and another that I can't remember) or the old 8-track. (My family refuses to throw anything away.)

I was really beginning to like this list all the way through Led Zep, the Beatles, Frampton and Van Halen. But then you stumbled a bit with Boz Scaggs (sorry, there is no place in the known universe where "The Lido Shuffle" and I converge). You recovered nicely with the likes of DEVO and The Doors. But Cindi Lauper was a turn into the mud. "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" should be played after, and only after, you have been through every other option for self-torture available.

OK, here is a start:

Livin' On The Edge - Aerosmith
Rock Lobster - The B52s
Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution - AC/DC
Don't Fear The Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
Smokin - Boston
Run Through The Jungle - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Walk Of Life - Dire Straights
Slow Ride - Foghat
Truckin' - Grateful Dead
Crazy On You - Heart
White Wedding - Billy Idol
Take Another Little Piece Of My Heart - Janis Joplin
Lola - The Kinks
The Star Spangled Banner - Jimi Hendrix
Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin
Let It Roll - Little Feat
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Cat Scratch Fever - Ted Nugent
We Are The Champions - Queen
School Days - The Runaways
Closer To The Heart - Rush
Low Rider - Santana
Old Time Rock And Roll - Bob Seger
Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen
Wipeout - The Surfaris
Bang A Gong - T Rex
Bad To The Bone - George Thorogood
Wild Thing - The Troggs
Aqualung - Jethro Tull
You Really Got Me - Van Halen
Squeeze Box - The Who

...and I think I still have "Secret Agent Man" by Johnny Rivers on 8-track somewhere...

Clark Gilbert

If you've listed a specific song so far in this thread I have it. I also have some songs from the people who just listed band names.

EDIT: Here is an excel file with all the songs I have. This doesn't include songs from the Bizzaro Music List Thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=38344).

Runnin Down A Dream (Tom Petty) - practically a robotics theme song

Excuse me, young lady, but if you had carefully read all of our prior posts, you would have noticed that not only do we know Skynyrd, Floyd, Queen, etc. but we included them in our lists. e.g.
...
Let It Roll - Little Feat
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Cat Scratch Fever - Ted Nugent
We Are The Champions - Queen
... :) :)
Besides, rather than just repeat my suggestions from last year (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=263124&postcount=64), I am including all of them by reference and just providing the additions to the list in this thread. But while we are on the subject, we should reference your post in that other thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38344&page=3&pp=15), and discuss the suggestion of "Dixie Chicken." While the song in subject is noteworthy indeed, the version you cited - a knockoff by some sissified hack in a cowboy hat - is barely worth mentioning. The only version worthy of serious consideration is the original by Little Feat. Nonetheless, for a youngster you have made a valiant attempt at a credible list of rock (although placing "Pinball Wizard" right aftter "Cherry Pie" is something like putting a Picasso after a cigarette ad). :D

I tried to do the same, and only pick one song, but I felt the respective bands were way too great and had a hard time choosing.I'm sorry, sir, but if you think one song on a suggestion list constitutes really knowing them, I think you ought to sit in the corner with those LP's a little longer. :)

Good point. So a few more suggestions are in order:

Blue Oyster Cult: Burnin' For You, Godzilla, Subhuman
Queen: Killer Queen, Play the Game
Pink Floyd: Pigs (Three Different Ones), Welcome to the Machine
Rush: Freewill, Analog Kid, New World Man
Jethro Tull: Bungle in the Jungle, New Day Yesterday

And a few songs I haven't seen, but may have just not looked hard enough:

Kansas: Carry on Wayward Son, Point of No Return
Yes: Roundabout, I've Seen All Good People
David Bowie: Suffragette City, Moonage Daydream, Changes, Ashes to Ashes
Soft Cell: Tainted Love
Moody Blues: Voice, Gemini Dream
Cream: Crossroads, Sweet Wine

And I'm sure I could keep going, but I really should be back at work!

Run Through The Jungle - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Dave, I'm very happy someone finally brought these guys up before I could! Although you've only mentioned one of their songs I do believe we should add a few more to the list!

And I also think that IRI is going to be amazing just based on all this great music...I've gotta find a way to get my hands on some of these records :D

Clark -

If you want another collection of songs to use for this, let me know and i'll bring my external harddrive along.

I have about another 120gb (24,000 tracks) of music I can contribute.

...and I am yet to find a song from this thread that I don't have.

I could be co-DJ if you wish as well.

I havent read the whole thread, but my year so far has been lacking in one thing from first

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS-

I need to hear that song at a time when it makes sense, like when they announce the winners.

I just heard this really cool song while watching old battlecry movies. The song is played in the begining of this match: mms://media.atc.wpi.edu/News/Events/BattleCry/04/qf3-2.wmv (copy into browser)
Also can someone tell me what the title is?

Clark,

I don't know if it's of any consequence to you or anyone else, but there are about 345,543 errors on your spreadsheet :p

The title of that song would be "The Hamster Dance" and apparently the artist is "The Hamster." If you're coming to BattleCry 6, you should be sure to hear that song again at some point.

"The Hamster Dance" is a remix of "Whistle Stop" from Disney's 1973 animated film "Robin Hood," for what it's worth.

According to the people in charge, I suppose this would all be "rubbish" but what would a FIRST event be without songs like:

50 cent - Candy Shop (cleaned of course)

Um...there wouldn't be anything left but the beat! :D Unless we count on people to not get the innuendo. :yikes:

I don't have the widest range of music, and what music I do listen to would be really odd to hear at a robotics competition. So...might as well throw some food in the water and if the ducks don't want it, it'll crumble and sink into post archive oblivion.....

David Bowie - Let's Dance (I've been wanting to hear this one at a FRC for a very long time. Try to play it when 469 operators are on cue (pretty please?)).
Radiohead - I Might Be Wrong
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop (if timed right, this could be really cool. Crecendo intro lasts for approximately 21.5 seconds, enough time for automode)

That's all I've got for now.

Goober!!!

I expect the music to be top notch, and hope to hear many good songs this year.

I'll throw in my one suggestion.

Fatboy Slim - Because We Can

If only because it's rockin' and the sort of stuff you'd expect to hear at a FIRST competition.

So basically from the sound of this thread, all we'll be listening to is classic rock? Now don't get me wrong, i love rock i do, but if we're going to go old school can we at least get some...something else?

The only things I've heard that caught my eye are: Stray Cats, Devo (but please, make it something besides Whip It), The Clash, The Ramones and Billy Idol.

I also liked the suggestion of Song 2 by Blur. Its a good sporting event song. And the Killers And Duran Duran.

But what if you're going for old school, how about The (English) Beat, Minor Threat (haha, sorry wishful thinking there), The Specials (c'mon, if they are good enough to be in Sixteen Candles, they're good enough for FIRST!), Adam and the Ants, The Brian Setzer Orchestra

Or for the kids who dont listen to anything more than a few months old: Underoath, My Chemical Romance, Motion City Soundtrack, Fall Out Boy (Who doesnt like these kids now a days, eh?), World/Inferno friendship society, armor for sleep, AFI (my personal favorite band of all time), Tiger Army, Alkaline Trio, Head Automatica (great dance style techno rock), etc?

Don't worry... it won't all be classic rock. I'll play some techno/80s/modern too. It just won't be all techno.

Don't listen to that, Clark. Older music is good music.

Brian Setzer Orchestra is old school? I was on my way to high school when that CD came out....thats not old.

Keep the playlists the same as what I last saw, and you should be fine for music :D
