View Full Version : Are you a NERD?

Andy Grady

Do you take pride in the fact that FIRST HQ is in Manchester NH?

Does the word "Wicked" show up a little more in your vocabulary than the average FIRST person?

Do you stress Defense over Offense?

Do you curse everytime the midwest has a team in the championship winning alliance?

Do you think that regionals were much better at New Hampshire College?

Do the letters UTC mean more than just a company to you?

Have you heard the phrase "How ya doin!" and thought of Bridgewater Mass. instead of New York City?

Do you miss Rumble at the Rock?

Do you even remember Rumble at the Rock?

Is your motto..."Why score? There are three robots on the field that I call targets!"

Do you feel that winning Battlecry carries more weight than any regional outside of New England?

Have you ever broken your robot at a pre-season scrimmage event?

Did you think it was really cool when it happened?

If you answered yes to any of these questions...you might be a NERD...

NERDS '06'...the best team, is one that is made of many...

Comming soon...

I am most definitely a NERD :p

Some of that stuff was before my time though.

I'm thinking this is about some New England Robotics DOMINATION in 2006...bring it on, Grady. I'm looking forward to it.

Ahem...Elgin, I'm barely allowed to use the term "Manch-vegas" and I live here!

Otherwise you would be correct.

By the way...good guess work everyone...

Of course you can guess the name all you want...but what does it truely mean?

I guess we'll find out soon.

NERDS '06'...Taking FIRST to the next level.

Well Karthik, I shall answer your challenge....
Take it to PMs or get this thread split, you three. You're filling up the NERD thread with completely off topic information.

Edit: Thanks whichever mod split them up. :D

With all due respect Adam, the discussion that was taking place in this thread was at the very heart of what NERD is all about. It was not even close to off topic, and to be quite honest I am a little miffed that it was split off.

To answer a question or two...

Q: Will NERD be unvieled at Battlecry? A: No

Q: What does NERD stand for? A: No one has got it right yet, but you are getting warmer ;)

Q: When will we find out about NERD? A: What part of it? Pretty soon? ;)

Ian Curtis

NERD - New England Robotics Defense. I think the R may be wrong but with Grady's new comments about getting close and being miffed about the split topic...

Yeah, I don't know exactly what NERD is 'cause SOMEbody wouldn't tell me at Mayhem, but I think I got the basic gist of it & also didn't like that someone thought it was off topic. But, to each their own, all is well in the world.

Now, onto business...

Does being a NERD have anything to do with missing the days of 1v1v1?

Does being a NERD mean you miss the days where picking for elimination matches the top seeds couldn't pick within themselves?

Does being a NERD mean you miss the losers' bracket?

...am I on the right train, or did I get the wrong ticket?

Great to see you posting again Kate!

This is a very interesting question you pose...

The answer could be yes.....annnd it could be no...depending on what part of NERD you speak of.

I can guarentee you will at least hear more about those topics at some point ;)

OK, no more clues for this week...good luck!

I don't know if I'm really posting again... You've just intrigued me & I was being a slacker at work. You usually post about stuff worth reading. ;) (no offense to everyone else, but Skrach holds a dear place in my heart. :p)

And, btw, you're absolutely killing me here, just in case you were wondering.

Kate

Do you even remember Rumble at the Rock?

Well, I probably would miss it if I was a FIRSTer back in the day, but at this moment I am watching a video from there. circa. 1998.

Looks pretty Spiffy if you ask me.

New England Robot Drivers. Given you're guidelines, NERD born, NERD bred, and when I die I'm a NERD dead!

Could also be New England Robot Defense....the best defense is always a team defense
