What is the best book to learn C from? I have been looking at Practial C Programming (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1565923065/ref=ord_cart_shr/102-0728029-8917712?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance)

I've been learning C the past few weeks and I have borrowed a book from a class mate titled Sam's Teach Yourself C in 24 hours. Honestly I've found myself getting more use out of resources from on-line. One of the most useful tools I've found is actually on the Chief Delphi white pages in a programing zip file from team 342. I also have gotten use out of a web site I found on another thread here (can't find thread again) which is http://cprogramming.com/ .

If you don't need a book you may want to hold on to your money for a week or so and try out some free resources. Otherwise I can recommend the one I previously mentioned, but I haven't read the one you have a link to.

Normally I would reccommend an O'Reilly book, but in this case I'm obliged to mention The C Programming Language (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0131103628/qid=1118054708/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/103-7384100-9678213?v=glance&s=books&n=507846). Buy it. You won't regret it :P

Although it's both C and C++, I'd recommend "C++: The complete Reference (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0072226803/qid=1118058636/sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i2_xgl14/102-4810558-3384935?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)" by Schildt. It's a great book which covers the details of both languages. The first half of the book is dedicated to standard C only, then it gets in to C++.

It's expensive, but possibly the best book I've ever bought. :)

I very much agree with Jon.

The C Programming Language is THE definitive programming reference and textbook for C. It was written by the creators of the C language and is generally referred to as K&R (after its creators, Brian Kernighan, Dennis Ritchie).
