Before I get to this week's picture, there is something I have to cover. If you haven't read my signature, I'm headed to Maine for a month (more or less) to teach at a camp up there. I know there's internet access in the office, but I'm not sure if I will have enough free time up there to get the caption contest judged. (For reference, it took me the better part of half an hour to judge the last contest, which had about 22 valid entries. If a contest goes three pages, I'm in for a longer time.)

Luckily, I have a backup plan. I guess we'll make it a rule...

If, in Billfred's judgement, he will be unable to administer the caption contest for a week, he may select one contestant to temporarily run the contest, including picture selection and judging. Since that contestant can't enter their own contest, they will receive their average score multiplied by the number of weeks they run the contest, rounded off.

... and here we have additional evidence supporting Newtons Second Law on the Conservation of Hair, which states that for a given universe there is a finite and constant volume of hair which is unevenly distributed throughout the environment. Any given change in the distribution of hair at one point will cause an equal and opposite change in distribution of hair at another point. Note that while these two points are typically distant enough from each other that they ultimately coexist in different individual creatures, there is a reasonable probability (generally beyond the 3-sigma range on a standard Gaussian distribution) that the points may be proximal and within the same individual creature. In such cases, Newtons Second Law on the Conservation of Hair generally results in a reduction of hair on the top of the head which is offset by emergent hair from the nose, ears, or back.
