Not to be taken seriously.

I figured some of us Seniors with college essays looming could enjoy a bit of light-hearted fun, and everyone else too.

I think I've read that before, but it makes me smile every time. Thanks, Genia!

Why Genia likes it
I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. Years ago I discovered the meaning of life but forgot to write it down. I have made extraordinary four course meals using only a mouli and a toaster oven. I breed prizewinning clams. I have won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open-heart surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis.

This is funnier every time i read it. I wonder if someone has tried an essay like this

Well if you read the top of the page,

This is actually an essay written by a college applicant when applying to colleges/universities. The author of this essay, Hugh Gallagher, now attends NYU.

One company I worked for only had 6 engineers, but they still wanted us to go through a formal yearly performance review

they passed out forms for us to fill out, detailing our accomplishments for the previous year, and skills that should be taken into consideration for our yearly raise.

I could not take it seriously, so I...well, exagerated a little.

I wish I had kept a copy, but the one part I do remember is:

"Kens engineering and creative skills are second only to God. His contributions to the company cannot be comprehended".

Of course, after having fun with it, I wrote the real version of the self-appraisal form and stapled it to the back.

Well if you read the top of the page,

i've seen the same thing before only the student attended MIT. Let me see if i can pull it up somewhere, the link I had saved is dead. So...I found this page which is also pretty funny (http://funnies.paco.to/writingTips.html)

What scares me about this essay...is that its author was accepted to a University.

In reality, it demonstrates skill in writing.

He organizes his paragraph. He answers the essay question. And he does it with style. College essays are meant to be like that.

Genia, you only know how much I loved that one!
In response, I give you a list of, for lack of a better word, "phrases" from college enterance examinations given in Ireland a few years back.

Note: I saw that some came up on the "Terrible Analogies" page as well, some have these have been passed around quite a bit!
