The SideBar is one of the best I've ever used. It's got an iTunes controls plugin, photos slideshows (based off XML/RSS feeds, as well as locally on your computer), weather, news, scratch pad, system resouces, etc.
Nice.

I just downloaded it. It's already helped me when I needed to take a note really quick from a phone call. :D
It's still indexing my system though. I just wish that it would try to do that not just when my system is idle though.
I give it an "A" so far.
What's the difference between using this and the normal Windows search?

Woah, this is cool :ahh: :D I'm liking the whole sidebar thing :D

Well Mike, I find that for one thing, its a heck of a lot faster than the normal Windows search, since windows searches for your file everytime, whereas Google Desktop indexes everything, so it just searches the index rather than scanning your comp everytime
And now with beta 2, the whole sidebar thing is totally cool, with weather (for US only, to my knowledge :( ) and emails, news, and photo slideshows and stuff like that...
All said and done, I guess it's really your personal opinion wether you like it or not.

Google Desktop indexes all of your files into an XML file, I believe, that tells where to find each file. In doing this it allows you to search your entire computer in a matter of seconds (less actually) instead of minutes. It is nearly exactly the same as the search that will be implemented in Windows Vista next year.
Edit: Rohan beat me to it. :p

O cool, I didn't know that they (Microsoft) are planning on doing that..

I really enjoyed Google Desktop for the half hour I was able to run it. The news, photos, email, etc, was all nicely located compared to other similar programs that are made. However, with my powerful HP laptop, the heatsinks quickly turned the laptop off when it determined I was letting it overheat too much.
Another smaller/similar nice toolbar program is Google Deskbar. Similar to Firefoxes' Google Bar but it's in the taskbar.

Sounds pretty cool, although I don't think I'll install it. Just something I don't think I really need.
Thanks for explaining it :D
