Capital Clash was an awesome event especially since we were covered by NBC and the crew did an AWESOME job explaining the game to the public.
Congratulations to
Most Promising Rookie Drive Team: Team 357
Gracious Professionalism Award: Team 365
Against All Odds Award: Team 1446
Best Autonomous Mode: Team 007
Thank you 433 and 1389 for being our partners and doing a wonderful job on the field.
It was nice meeting you random people from ChiefDelphi haha.
What an awesome time!
Thanks are great, but you never get everyone who should be thanked. That being said, I would like to thank...
* Dee and Jenny (i.e., the Dutchess and the Princess) - Terrific job
* Mike Wade, Pete, and NASA - nice looking field as usual
* Jeff Seaton (Happy Anniversary) and play-by-play announcer - this event "sounded" like a regional competition
* All volunteers the days went by very smoothly for a first-time event
Team 357 (for picking us for elims) and Team 1195 (for being a terrific alliance partner)
* All participating teams everyone was very gracious and helpful
* NBC4, Digital Expo, and Washington Convention Center for letting us crash their party
Other observations...
* it was nice have Digital Expo as a diversion during down time. It was nice, but not too big.
* load in/ load out was terrific and very easy! No stairways or elevators!
* sound got drowned out a bit during awards ceremony - it was a bit hard to hear the awards announcements
* the mentor-only round was great! Plus, look how many points we all scored! It was a very high scoring round! Did we get extra time? I can't remember, because the blood from my brain was stopped because I had loads of force pushing down on the human player button, which temporarily retarded my circulation. :D
GREAT TIME EVERYONE. If y'all are up to continue the fun, register for the Duel on the Delaware on October 22, 2005.

Yes, the mentors got more time. Someone pondered whether we should give the mentors more time, and we all agreed that mentors would probably need more time to sort out how to drive their robots. So we set the human-controlled time to three minutes. ;)
The dust is settling, my email box is emptying, NBC is beyond thrilled with the weekend, and it appears that everyone made it home in time to start school.
A big thank you to the 24 teams from 6 states and DC who gave up their last weekend in August to join us in Washington. I have heard many comments from the uninitiated-FIRST world about how incredible these students are, and how gracious they were when explaining about FIRST. Some teams were interviewed on tv and radio, and NBC is now wishing they had done more. Thank you for going with the flow, for not arguing too much when we changed some of the rules :o and substitutions, for putting up with our fluctating NBC dictated schedule, and for keeping the show going to the end. NBC is telling me that 40,000 people saw you at the event. You were terrific and I hope you had fun.
A big hug and thanks to each of the 55 volunteers from 8 states and DC who were just amazing at helping with this show. I would like to mention each one of you (but won't ;) )In looking over the list, it occurred to me that this group of volunteers represented dozens and dozens of teams. All but a couple of these volunteers were team-related (rather than event related) and have been students on teams, mentored teams, sponsored teams. I am now wishing I had a sheet in pit admin where each volunteer could have written down the teams they have been associated with over the years. You all understand and get what this is about and that made my life so much easier. I am so appreciative.
It appears that several FIRST-ers were big door prize winners at the Expo. Cameras, iPods and I believe a plasma TV. I'll let you tell who you are. I know I came home with a great little thermos.

ooo! also to 306 for the hats.
n 357 for just being awesome! :D
On behalf of the students, parents, and coaches of 341 Miss Daisy, we just want to say THANK YOU to Jenny, Dee, Mike, Jeff, Greg, Paul, Ron, Dave, and the countless volunteers for putting on this event.
If it was not for the dedication of these people the off-season just would not happen.
We would also like to thank NBC and Network Events Incorporated who also support our display at the Philly version of this technology show.
We had a tough time on the field, but our kids still had a GREAT TIME at the competition. Congrats to our good friends 365 and 357 along with 1195 and Thank you to Team 007 for picking us for the playoffs. It goes without saying that all of the teams were amazing and always ready to help.
We can't wait to CLASH in 2006!!!!
