I was driving up I-95 this weekend and as i 3was passing cocoa beach i was on the phone with arefin and he was telling me about his car having a 233 ticket on it. i also noticed that i was about to hit that number on my Trip OD. Notice the superior quality of my picture compared to arefin's

Tytus,

I know you're an accomplished driver, but why are you taking pictures of your dashboard, while on the phone, while going 86 mph?!?

Yeah, that's a bit fast. It's a Ford right? Edit: I guess it is Mazda (B series?, equivalent of Ford Ranger)

hahaha... you have no idea. (Cory pointed out that it is not cool to discuss illegal things like this on the forum... so I can't share) but to some respective members on the forum (specially Neha): Please don't tell them how crazy I am.

Tytus has a Mazda B2500 (truck) now.

eh, don't you get run over if you're going below 80? well okay i'm stretching it but going AT the speed limit means you're going to get cut off by everyone on the road and that poses a greater safety hazard.
[this is written is slight sarcasm...i'm not here to argue i'm just playing around]

eh, don't you get run over if you're going below 80? well okay i'm stretching it but going AT the speed limit means you're going to get cut off by everyone on the road and that poses a greater safety hazard. Actually, I'd sort of agree, at least on some freeways here. At times, the freeway will have an average volume or cars and the fast lane will maintain a speed of around 80mph. It is actually a pretty common thing. I've seen people go like 68 (speed limit is 65) in the fast lane and hold up traffic for about a mile. The freeway was free and clear in front of them and packed behind them. Everyone's got somewhere to be, and most people want to get there faster. And when you encounter someone just "out for an afternoon drive" I'd say a significant percentage of drivers don't like that. I know I don't. If the freeway is flowing at a good rate, I go with the flow, even if the flow is faster than the speed limit.

Also, one kind of funny thing is that quite a few times cops have come up right behind me when I'm doing 75-80mph. And every single time it turns out that they were only trying to get around me, and then they do, and proceed to accelerate up to about 90mph.

Hey! Karthik, you're canadian. You will use the metric system.
140 km/h :p

And.. my guess is the heiroglyphics of the sailboat inbetween the large H and C in which your arrow is pointing at has to mean something..

WHAT DOES IT MEAN? WHAT DOES IT MEAN???

Other than that, the only thing I can think of is that if you took your picture 4 miles later then you would of had a really cool number on your trip tick. :D

I was talking to a police officer I'm friends with about this subject. He says he speeds a little just so he doesn't slow people down. He also told me about the most amazing speeding ticket he ever gave he ever made. He was driving 70 on a 65 mph road and this woman passes him going 80. When he pulls her over he says "Mam I was going 70 on a 65 mph road and you passed me pretty fast. Do you know what that means Mam?" she replies "Yes sir, you were speeding on duty." That takes some guts.

He actually has 93,95X miles on it. The first zero is for when you roll the odometer over. The tenths column is in the trip odometer.

You were on the phone, going 86 mph on I-95 (fairly common), while taking a picture at the same time? Where your knees on the steering wheel? I pray you had your seatbelt on. Now is a good time to emphasize usage of safety glasses... :D

So.. the more important thing is; did she get out of getting a ticket?
They always speed on duty.. I hope she got out of it.

Cops don't like smartasses. If you're trying to get out of a ticket, this is probably the worst way to do so.

Hey kid, don't do it again!
Roll up on a few nasty accident scenes where you have to cut the car apart to get people out and it will have an effect upon you.
I went through the whole invincible period too, but I am no longer invincible in my car, just out on the pitch.

Stay safe,

Speaking of speeding and with the winter weather just around the corner I figured I would post about my incident. I know some of you do not have to worry about snow and ice, but traveling excessive speeds is just as bad on dry roads.

Anyway back in February of 2004 I rolled my vehicle less than two miles from my house while driving too fast for the road conditions.

Luckily, I escaped with a two very very very minor injuries, a cut on my pinky from the driver side window shattering and a bruise on my head where the rear view mirror hit me.

Surprisingly I even drove the vehicle home, after I removed it from the snow bank, and parked it in the driveway. After the vehicle did a complete flip it landed back on all fours, if that would not have occured I would have most likely sustained many more painful injuries!

Anyway at least buckle up, no matter how slow or fast you drive!

haha... Tytus always wears his seatbelt. And I don't think he took the picture while he was on the phone with me (unless he wanted to surprise me, he knew that the picture of the ticket on my car was going to make an appearance here). He probably realized it when he got off the phone with me and then took the picture. tytus is a safe driver... ya he doesn't drive his truck like he drives his Swampthing (if he was to driver his truck like he drives swampthing, atleast 2 tickets would pop up every week). :)

Ok thread revival!

I took this this morning at about 6:34am..and at a safer speed. It only took me 5 days of driving to and from school. So you can do the math for how far away I live from my school.

We shouldn't let this turn into a "who can take a picture of the trip meter reading 233 while going the fastest"... despite how cool it would be.

Man, I remember when Montana had no speed limit. It was so awesome. Going 110 in a Ford Explorer with Firestone Wilderness ATs. :ahh: :D

Is there anywhere in the US with no speed limit now?

Is there anywhere in the US with no speed limit now?Not on public roads. But Texas has some stretches that are being raised to 80 mph.

But the number hunting that spawned this thread? That's a waste of time.

An interesting note is that the German Autobahn is statistically much safer than US highways. There are far fewer crashes. However, when a crash does occur, I bet it is pretty bad.

The difference is that their cars don't have cupholders and people don't grab a big mac before happing on the autobahn. They don't talk on the phone while driving either. And a lot of their cars are all quite high performance models. Also, you must drive in the right lane, and pass on the left, and can be heavily fined for not doing so, or for driving too slowly. In Germany, driving is a skillful art, in the US, it is a passive annoyance.

Hey our engineers do that all the time, especially Evil Trav. Sometimes its a miracle that even get to some of the regionals in one piece especially New Jersey. Sometimes they will even have races while going down the interstate against each other. That is why we always remember to bring extra pants...................well at least the rookies on the team since they are not use to the engineers driving habits. :D

Well actually its not Evil Trav with the lead foot it's one of our other engineers. He has been known to hit 95 while the other engineers try to keep up. We slowed him down for IRI.

When in Rome....

One of our OTHER mentors, who shall remain nameless, did take some rather.....rapid......liberties with the V8 Envoy while hauling the team trailer to NJ. I guess he couldn't wait to get there and see all the beautiful concrete*.....

*I'm just kidding. There was lots of asphalt and blacktop too**.

Yes, on the way home from IRI, I hooked up with Tony Stewart who was out crusing on I-70 E at about 135, and we sent two of the other mentors into the wall somewhere in the vicinity of Columbus. I picked up the draft from Tony on I-71 N and never looked back.

Oh, and didn't I tell you I own stock in Levi Strauss?

well at least the rookies on the team since they are not use to the engineers driving habits. :D

I believe we were going along with the flow of traffic at a leisurely 75 most of the way to and from Indiana, SIR. Stop rear seat driving!
