Hello,
Does anyone know if Canadian teams can participate in the VEX challenge? Recently, RadioShack Canada had a lawsuit with RadioShack US. To sum it all up, RadioShack Canada is no more, and VEX has no supplier here in Canada. We have been told that FIRST is trying to find another supplier.
Has anyone heard about this?
Also, must you be a rookie team to be in FVC?
Thanks so much,
- Havergal Robotics

I don't know anything official, but here's my two cents: If you can get a kit and get the challenge rules, you can put on an unofficial competition. At this point, US West Coast teams can't really do an official event because of being outside the area to do so. :( So, some of them are doing unofficial events with the same game. (Or, make up your own game!)

I highly doubt that you must be a rookie to be in FVC, particularly when you look at some of the profiles here on CD.

Are any Toronto teams going to be shadowing VEX? If so, are you up for a shadow competition? No clue where this might be hosted yet.

Thanks,

The only way to get VEX in Canada right now is to have someone from the States ship it up to you or you go down and pick it up. Radio Shack cannot ship to Canada.

Wow, Karthik didn't lie. I DID have more Vex kits in my basement (13 at one point) than all of Canada.

As for Canada not being able to compete, that really sucks. IF you can get a hold of a couple kits, you COULD sign up for a US regional competition if your up for the travel, or so I assume (just like the West Coast teams). Or you could hold your own event (which I'd also advise doing).

Hey, ship a kit my way! ;)

They're in the school now.
I said they were in my basement, not mine! :yikes:

We want to compete, but we don't really have the room to hold an event here. We are getting a kit from the US, so we're just wondering if Toronto teams (or Toronto-area teams) are interested in forming a competition with us?

thanks,

There is something in the works to try and get some kits to Toronto. There is an attempt to have something for kickoff. Nothing is final as the kits will not be shipped for a week or two. Check out http://www.firstcanadianregional.org/main.php for updated info or contact Vance Scott. His info is on the contact page.

Most answers can be found here: http://www.usfirst.org/vex/VexQA.htm

Looks like you have to be a rookie team, and be at least 250mi from the site of the competition. Its also open to those who arent doing the main competition.

It will be up to first canadian regional organizers to get some kits and have their own unofficial competition. As Steve mentioned, best to check out the firstcanadianregional.org website and the forums for specifics. If it can be done, I'm sure those guys will find a way.

If any teams are interested in a kit they should contact Vance Scott right away before an order is placed.
