Prepare, for Bernie will be on pit, which means dancy when me not fixy. And with Duckie on the speakers we'll have proper homage to ALL songs required at a comp. With 29, 29 teams people, there's plenty of people to move to the airwaves. People, bring them books too, lots of books. It's Make-A-Difference Day so lets make our difference by piling on the books.

We're not able to have an official NEMO get-together at the Duel, but am inviting all NEMOs and potential NEMOs to come by and say hello. I will be the head referee - stop by and see me between matches. There will also be Priscilla and Karen in the concession booth who also would like to say hello. If you are new to NEMO, we have flyers to introduce the program and point you to more resources, such as the white papers on sponsor packets, what to expect at a competition; 101 ways parents can help, etc etc.

Hope to see you at the Duel! :D

Good luck to all the teams competing tomorrow.

I'll be stuck in a freezing cold room at my high school taking the ACT's.

ACT's versus Driving a robot...eh i think i made the wrong choice.

But good luck to all, someone pick 25!

Who knows, i may hightail it down after the test and get there just before elims.

Attending teams - it should not be very difficult for you to find your pit spots. You will know what I mean tomorrow.

Oh, please remember to bring books for the book drive!

See y'all bright and early tomorrow morning.

Do the Duel!

So, who won?
75, 222 and 1721(Pre rookie team we started at Howell High School). They used our 2004 robot and played this years game. AND WON. The robot won the event TWICE. Go start pre-rookie teams and maybe your robot will win an event twice too. Henrys(222s driver) driving was beyond amazing. The event was awesome overall and thanks to 365 and 316 for hosting it.

Yeah Bharat, I just take Brian places... he scores the points :D

Its good to "retire" that competition at a perfect 3-0 for the three years I have been there.

Duel is always a great competition with great teams and even better people. Hopefully I will be able to come back next year to watch as an alum...

Thank you 1721 and 75 for being such a solid alliance amids the daunting 8th seed.
Also, thank you to 365 and 316 for such a great competition.

Congrats to all teams competing at the Duel yesterday. It was a fun event and you all contributed in making it fun.

Special congrats to the winning alliance - Teams 1721, 222, and 75.

Also, thanks to Team 84, who brought in more than 400 lbs of books to win our second annual Miracle of Reading Education Book Drive award. Those, and all the 1700+ lbs of books collected will be put to very good use.

Congratulations to our Duel Master Volunteer nominees:
* George Marchant, Team 87
* Pam Halter, Team 316
* Michael Crane, Team 357
* Bill Enslen, Team 365
* Bob Foell, Team 433
*James Speidell, Team 1597

and to our Duel Master Volunteer for 2005 - Bob Foell. Way to go!

We will be posting this info, the Duel Master Volunteer nominations, and recipients of the Duel Personal Recognition Awards/Buttons, on the MOE 365 website soon, in addition to some photos of the event. Look for them.

And lastly, a very special thank you to all who made this event possible, from the man who opened the doors to the Field House at SCC at 6:20am on Saturday morning to the people in the Red Bull truck to distributed some free Red Bull to each and every volunteer, planning committee member, or service provider. As always, there are too many people to mention, but each one is important to making this event happen.

See you next year.

Duel of the Delaware was an amazing event! It was my first year there and my team's first as well. We really enjoyed the GP shown and the spirit was phenomenal for a small crowd. Great selection of music, too.

Thank You Team 1721 and 222 for choosing Team 75 as the third alliance. Thank you to all the organizers of the event.

I will surely miss driving at Duel on the Delaware since I will be in college next year.

Great job to all the teams who participated. It was fun. :D

This is an extremely well-run and exciting event! What a cinderella story for the winners, as well! 8th place alliance member choosing last place seed and having to pick a third partner from eliminated teams... to take it all. That's just awesome!!

Congrats to 222, 75 and 1721!!! Thanks to 365 and 316 for hosting it!

And where can I get that video that was played at the event? That was great!

I just want wanted to thank everyone including 316 and 365 (it was great seeing you guys again) for making it such a wonderful experience.

I also wanted to thank 87 and 316. Our original alliance partners in the quarter finals. Even if we didn't make it too far we still put up the good fight!

I wanted to thank 222 and 1721 for giving us that 2nd chance when they were missing their 3rd alliance member and chose us to join them and we went on to claim the title.

I had a wonderful time and I'm sure my team and I will be back next year to defend our title!

I 3rd that about the music!

Much thanks to 204 and 555 for picking us as their partners!

Thanks to 365 and 316 for the organizing and planning the competition. The event was excellent - we all had a blast! It was a great competition to start out the [school] year, and it will certainly be a memorable event in Firebirds history :)

I just wanted to thank John Larock and the crews of 316 and 365 for putting on the Duel. Another great event.

Congratulations to Bob Foell and the Firebirds for the Master Volunteer Award.

Team 341 would also like to thank our partners 816 and Chuck 84 for helping us make it to the finals.

We had a great run , 6-0 in the Qualifiers and then right through to the Finals. But I have to say that 222, 1721 and 75 worked us over pretty good in the Finals. Congratulations to the Champions!!

Can't wait to see everyone again at Ramp Riot on November 5th It should be another great one.

I have a copy of the video Jake made on my USB drive, and will see if we are (going to/can) put it up on the duel website or something.

As for the music playlist, I will export the list from iTunes and try and get it posted here as an excel attachment tomorrow when I get off work.

As always, this event was run very well. Thank you to 316 and 365.

I want to congratulate Bob Foell on the Master Volunteer Award.

I always want to thank the members of my team that submitted and entry for me for the Master Volunteer Award. I was really touched by what they put in the entry.

Per George's comments, we will be posting all six of the Duel Master Volunteer Award nominations on our website (hopefully by the end of this week), along with other awards and Personal Recognition recipients. I will announce with a note on CD when they are up.

Congratulations to all nominees!

Hey John,

If that video gets put up on the website, could you let us know, too? I'd love to get my hands on that. I'm trying to build a collection of great videos to show parents and prospective teams. :)

If you can't get it on the website, I'd love to get a copy on a CD or DVD. I can send you blanks if needed.

I compressed the video down to 4MB and sent it to the web people... so it shouldn't be too long before it is up on the duel website. The quality isn't great, so if you are doing something where you need a better quality version, let me know and I'll see what I can do to get something out to you.

Congrats to 1721, 222, and 75 for your win at the Duel. You were an awesome alliance!

Thanks to 341 and 816 for inviting us to join your alliance. We had a great run until we met up with that bunch of 'losers', the #8 alliance! They just rolled through everybody!

Thanks, also, to John and your entire crew for the great time we all had, in spite of the weather. Can't wait for next year. (I'm collecting books already!)

Chuck 84 ranks up there as one of our favorite competition partners of all time. Finalists at PARC 2002, Champions at Summer Frenzy, DoD Finalists and probably a few other partnerships that I am not remembering.
You guys are skilled, easy to work with, and fun. Whenever we hook up in the playoffs, we always seem to do well together.
It was another great run!!

Thanks again to you and to Team 816.

Thanks again for the video! I might be contacting you for a higher res version later, but I'd LOVE to know what song you used for the first part.

The second part sounds like something off my world of warcraft soundtrack, but I honestly didn't want to spend the effort verifying it.

Great video, but the audio quality seems low. (And yet the text is perfect, ahh the perils of using iMovie.)

I actually used Adobe Premier Pro... the problem with the audio was my fault. The input levels of the two songs are really different, so I increased the volume of the 2nd song to make them sound about even, but I didn't check the levels. So according to Adobe, the 2nd song gets so loud the PCM uncompressed audio can't register it, so it cracks a couple of times. I could have fixed it if I paid closer attention to the audio levels, but meh.. such are the trials and tribulations of doing a video in such a short time period. Also, I compressed the audio using a really low quality mp3 codec 'cause the MOE web guys are really jumpy whenever I ask for video space.

The songs are (in order):
1) Rods and Cones by The Blue Man Group
2) Molossus by James Newton Howard (Batman Begins Soundtrack)

As for the text, I ran the output from Premier Pro through a couple of filters to deinterlace the raw DV footage off the camera I was using and shrink it down while preserving the image quality. The deinterlacing proceedure fixes those horizontal distortion bars you see sometimes during a high-motion clip.. the filter I used just blurs a few frames together to get rid of those lines. Since the text was created digitally, it wasn't interlaced, so the raw version of the text actually looks worse than the compressed, deinterlaced version. Another effect of me not paying enough attention to the video before rendering it.
