Hi Everyone,
There's been some talk, some good - some bad, about our team's cheer. We've got a title to defend now, so I don't think we'll ever get rid of it, but I'd like to know what you all think about it. At almost all competitions we go to, we hear things about the cheer from teams, but I'm not sure if its mocking it or just having a good time. Personally, because of our handout this year (earplugs), I don't think it was too bad, but what do you think about the

OH oh OH oh!
<clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap>
GO MOE!

?

I got the ear plugs, the button, a pair of sticks and also a MOE t-shirt!

I still caught myself sometimes thinking "clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, GO MOE!".

National Team Spirit Award totally deserved. Congratulations! You guys were awesome there.

I wasn't at the championships this year, but if they were anything like the staves of a couple years ago with which some team pounded the bleachers into submission -- Pure unadulterated EVIL!

after being at regionals with MOE in the past three years and now a nationals...i find myself cheering along when they do their cheer... in philly i made a few unsuccesful attempts at starting the MOE cheer myself...those sticks and the green soccer jerseys help define who MOE is it woul be a crime to take that away....lol....as annoying as it may be...y'all are jealous that u cant be that annoying :D

Good: Spirit is always good (just look at my team, woot)
Evil: Spirit awards not being won by my team aren't good ;)
Good: MOE rocks, and I cheered along almost every time
Evil: My hands hurt trying to keep up with MOE without sticks of my own.

I'm torn!

CLAP,CLAP,CLAP,CLAP,CLAP,CLAP,CLAP,CLAP,CLAP, GO MOE ! Being a freshman, I have not had the chance to really hear your cheer but after three days at Virginia and Philly, I sometimes catch my self doing it. AHHHHHH!!!! MAKE IT STOP!!!! (Not you stop your cheer, just it repeating in my head over and over and over and over and over.) BTW, congrats on your National Team Spirit award and Philly chairmans award. You deserve it. Your green shirts are real hard to miss. I WANT ONE! Good job this year and I see you next year.

is there any way to make insulated banging sticks, so that they won't make so much noise?

The problem with earplugs is if you want to talk to someone, you need to take them out, and risk permanant hearing loss.

MOE has excellent spirit, the J&J Midatlantic regional wasnt quite the same without them, but -- oh god--the noise, is such a pain behind the eyes.

Insulated banging sticks - i like it - sound-proof DJ speakers - even better

Here's one for the guys at DEKA: sound wave inhitbitor fields - set the up to block all noise by reflected sound waves with counter waves
:D

Since my freshman year in the program the MOE team has been my adopted team. The MOE cheer is something they do very well, but not the only thing. They have a top notch pit crew, drivers, and all and all great color!! Yes, the ear plugs were needed when sitting in the stands with them, but it was well worth the noise.

Not to brag, but I also am the proud owner of a MOE t-shirt, MOE stix....( that were signed by a certain someone :o) ha haha ha), green and black bandana, the holographed stickers (which were very limited this year), and ALOT of great memories......

Thank you guys for another great National Event and hope to see you back down there next year!! I still find myself saying the cheer and I even caught myself today taping it out on my desk...oops!!

Michelle

ps...there was another MOE cheer. I think two years ago it went something like this.... Hi ho Hi ho it's off to MOE we go, but I don't remember exactly how the rest of it went. Does anyone know?!?

I dont want to be negative, our dampen your enthusiasm, but the noise generated by banging sticks and such can be really hard on the ears, especially the drivers, who cannot wear earplugs. Im not saying stop, but try not to make our ears bleed...

I never thought about the people on the field trying to communicate back and forth. Well, I guess that would be a draw back. Maybe they should only do it before and after the match. Hummm.........

If you have never seen MOE sticks, they are 2 one-foot-long pieces of wood, which are clapped together. We always paint them our team colors, green and black, this year in a diagonal stripe pattern. I have seen other teams like #304 WAR Dept (probably result of sitting near us last year) and #191 X-Cats make their own sticks. Our team joined the X-Cats clap during lunch one day.
As for the staves you are talking about, I remember seeing teams a couple of years ago use broomsticks with a coke bottles full of beans attached to one end of the stick. They would bang the wood end of the stick against the bleachers. I think those sticks were banned from competitions due to the heavy amount of damage which they inflicted on the bleachers, which angered the hosts of the competitions.

When going to the parks and outside the competition, we would yell "GO MOE!" at the top of our lungs at the sight of a bright green jersey.

Ya, wearing our jerseys through the parks turned out very well. Other teams would just walk up and say "EEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
It was funny to see regular Disney visitors stare at the MOE green jerseys that appeared to be radioactive in the Florida Sun. Sunscreen should have been one of our giveaways. We also served as FIRST ambassadors by telling everyone who asked, "So what’s with the shirts?" all about FIRST.

I'm wearing my newly aquired MOE jersey to school today and see how many people turn their head while I walk by. I'll let you know what everyone thinks!!

My team told me that I wouldn't do it, so I guess I'm proving my point as to I will!! Well, off to school I go with my MOE jersey!!

Dear the Lucas,

How can I be "hooked up" with one of your team shirts? Tell me so I'll be ready for philly next year. I REEEEEAAAALLLLYYYYY want one! Any way, in Virgina when my team went to lunch we attracted a bunch of stares. I'm sure they were thinking "What are kids doing walking around in the same t-shirt?" Orgazination of teams with their shirts can be great publicity for FIRST and your sponsers. Congrats to Raytheon for winning the Government's new DD-X destroyer program contract. You beat my main sponser Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics and Survalance Systems.

I am opposed to anything that makes more noise than clapping your hands together. All these things do is make other teams use louder, more obnoxious things to get noticed. They also seem to drive the DJ's to play their music even louder so everyone can hear it.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think these events should be so loud that you will recieve permanent hearing damage if you do not wear earplugs.

I personally think the sticks you refer to had little to do with Moe winning the Spirit Award. I think the size of your team, enthusiasm level and clear connection between your team and robot is what did it. I firmly believe you would have won the award without the "sticks"

Our students had what we called "Clappers" last year that were very similar to your sticks. We asked asked our team to not use them because they were just too annoying.

If every team hoping to win the spirit award were to use "Clappers" all that would happen is the total level of noise would go way up without any individual teams really benefitting.

Just my 2 cents...

Alex...Great to hear I'm not the only one that has a MOE jersey in their position!! I can honestly say though I was the first NON MOE person that has worn the CAPTAINS HAT!! Jake let me wear it my freshman year when we was driving. I think someone has that on film somewhere?!? Maybe....

Ok, not saying that there's any thing wrong with team spirit, but those sticks, whew. Last year, they had those sticks, and it made scouting quite hard when one is sitting right in front of them :) I'm not saying they're annoying or anything, great team spirit and all, but sometimes it's just a lil loud.

I am looking to trade my spare MOE shirt for one of those cool Diablo shirts. The only problem is finding one that fits me. I am 6'3'', 215 lbs so I need at least an XL preferably an XXL. My MOE shirt is XXXL but thier sizes run small. I can probaly trade through Nick who is apparently visiting your team soon.

Does that 5 min include the time you stole it off Brian's head in the parking lot, and we were too lazy and stupid to chase you right away. You're extremely dedicated, but Shelly has been adopted by the team for 3 years. I don't think you can top her

I voted to burn the sticks, but just because I don't like them doesn't mean that MOE should stop using them. Many teams have noisemakers, and MOE's happen to be excellent. And loud. And annoying.:p

And did you win a Regional Spirit Award? Just curious.

ooooh i forgot about that time!!! no, wait that doesnt count. i wasnt wearing it. and shelley, see, this is a new hat. and if you havent worn this one, then i get to still be the only special one!!!! And stephen, no not quite.....i am still missing a piece of apparel.......They seem to be very possessive of this one...

The Captains hat hasn't changed since Jake wore it their rookie year. Last year when they won the national championships, I wore the famous green cape.....Have you worn that?!? I don't think you can out do me though. Not at least after me leaving my ID and everything else with Jake Saturday night and me having to call his mom at home to get the number of where they were staying...ha ha ha That was one crazy night!! Three years of being adopted by their team and giving Vince hugs every day.... I think I still have one up on you!!

One of the funniest parts of the competition was when my dad came to see the competition from where he's working over in West Palm. He arrived shortly before alliances were picked for the finals, and we got our seats where we had sat for most of our matches on Newton. MOE was behind us. Shortly after he sat down, a MOE team member tapped him on the shoulder and asked if he would like a pair of earplugs. At first he was a little hesitant, kind of wondering "why do I need these." I told him to take them, he might find a use for them later. He tore the plastic bag open pretty quickly, and put them in almost immediately after MOE's first match started; and didn't take them out until after MOE cleared the stands... ahahahahaha. Keep the sticks.

nono shelley, see this is where you are wrong. see, brian happens to have TWO hats....the one this year was new...hehe i have attempted to gain possession of both or either of these, although so far to no avail. noo, i have not worn the green cape. i didnt even know there was one! =( hmm a new goal to work towards....oh and stephen!! thank you for the most wonderful idea!! we really dont need last years robot now do we???? hmm a good and fair trade for one of those wonderful hats.....hehehehehe and as for vince's hugs....i have been spared!! hehe i run away as fast as i can....he hugs my teacher so thats enough for me not to hug him...lol

i still say you broke that poor man's heart, alex. all he wanted was a hug ... ;)
oh, and if there's to be any trading of robots, why don't we trade 2000's robot instead, last year's is still good, and seeing as i spent all that time programming it, i would never part with it

DUDE THAT CHEER IS SO AWESOME! You guys so deserved the award, even though our team wanted it, Congrats. And i think that most people singing your cheer just sing it because it gets stuck in our heads, well at least mine. My friends and I were even a little disappointed cus we didnt hear it as much this year as in past years!! HAH CONGRATS!

I see this year the X-Cats made their own sticks and cheer. I heard you guys clapping during lunch on Saturday. Our entire team joined in. I think more teams need to make sticks and cheers.

Alex,
I don't think anyone knows where last year's green sequined cape is. Jake tried to steal it for his dorm but Gwen wouldn't let him. We wanted to make more capes for our competition team this year, but our leaders said it was a safety hazard. Safety FIRST! The goal is Zero! (or was zero, but that is a different story)

Shelley_delphi chick
03-05-2002, 07:18
SAFETY FIRST......Honey I shurnk the audiance!! oh my anyway, so I still have one up on you Alex!! I dont believe they will ever part with their robot, so that is outta the question! jake said something about they took it back after he left for college and they wouldn't let him have it back because he said he felt (somethingI can't say on here) without it!! I wasn't awear of however that there was two. I know that they added stuff to the one Jake wore, but had no idea......I guess I'll have to go find them and wear them so we are equal. :o) I think this is getting oretty funny. At least we aren't in competition with the same guy though. That could get alittle interesting and I would have to say I would win, just for the simple fact of you don't even know!! I just hope that this stays friendly and doesn't get horrible or anything. Well, class is calling my name .......

wait are you tlakinga bout a long green sequinny thing not quite as bright as your shirts??? hehe i know where it is. i didnt know that was the cape though. someone on our team has it....i had originally stolen it but someone else took it....hmmm need to do something about that...=)

Don't get what team spirit is about. We X-Cats had a blast being loud. Down at the Buckeye regional the only other teams that were even interested in Cheering were Chief Delphi and Delphi Elite. Sweet Blue got in the mood Day 2(by the way I love Chief Delphi's rowing cheer). We were getting sideway glances all day.
It's hard to win team spirit in Florida because everybody is all spead out. Moe deserved team spirit for just having those poor kids tow around that big puppet.Congratulations Moe on your team Spirit award!

Shelley_delphi chick
03-05-2002, 15:37
I don't know if that was the cape I am referring to, but maybe it is don't know?!? Any MOE guys know where the "cape" is?

Team spirit isn't just what you do at the competitions and how loud you are, but what you do in and out of the competition. 365 not only shows team spirit while out on the field, through the Disney Parks, on the rides, but also in their town and school. They started FIRST Lego Leauge Teams and everything eslse. They deserved that award and one more time.... GO MOE!!
