View Full Version : Who had the most awesome robot at the nationals

OK my question to everyone who attended the nats was who do you think had the most awesome robot there. My nominees would be SPAM, 60 (the Kingman bot) and Beatty Hammond. If I had to choose one I would choose just one I would choose SPAM.

I also should add that the most awesome ball-bot was BBS

Yea 122! How about we all come back next year, and if the same thing happens to both of us again, we will have a renegade competition in the parking lot. But really, you guys had an amazing robot.

224 also rocked.

And 007 too. (that was quite shameless)

I was surprised at the level of the ball bots at nats. 173 and 175 scared me they could pick up so many balls. I watched buzz pick up like 25 balls and dump them and put a goal into scoring position in 30 seconds. Obviously team 60 was awsome, by far the most powerful double goal grab this year, maybe the most powerful wheel propelled robot ever. Which brings me to beatty, beatty makes me cry, not only because they beat us but because they came up with a design so good that they deserved to win. not a lot of people saw them but the Cheesy Poofs put together yet another awsome bot this year. i'm sure there's more but i can't think of any more right now.

308 and 60... *lifting* two goals!?!? wow

111... simply the most manueverable bot i've ever seen

its a dog fight between team 60, the beast, SPAM bot and Baxter, and Team 233 Space Coast

i think BBS was the best ball collection machine...it was a beautiful machine....Team 60 was an absolute masterpiece and great t watch....The beast...the walking strength of this robot made it unbeatavle....and who can forget spacecoast and there robots wonderful coding that ran their motors at the highest efficiency at all times... :D

I can't believe 122 didn't get picked. That was a massive scouting oversight.

Best goal bot (just goal grabbing ability): 60
Best ball bot (just ball grabbing ability): 175

But I wouldn't be a good judge because I didn't see too many other matches besides ours and the ones right before ours.

I'm probably just biased, but I honestly believe that we could've assembled a divisional champ alliance from all the teams that didn't get picked. Us (team 21), 122, and one of many other oversights (234, 34 to name a few) could've competed with the winners. They should allow a wildcard alliance.

to Bad we didn't go to the national But team 61 robot did in fact pull team 180 around the field. So I would think for power we are up there. We will see when we go to PA May 11.

Well, I have to say 308 :D I didn't see any other team that could compleatly pick the goals off the ground.

But as for not my old team, I'd have to say 111. They always scared me playing against them, and they managed to do it again this year.

I'd actually have to agree that 308 had one of the most awosome robots I've seen. They looked pretty good at Regionals, but i think they had a few technical problems. I knew with a few minor fixes they could have one of the most amazing bots of the season. Sure enough, they looked awosome at nationals. Not only were they one of the few teams to lift up two goals, from what I saw they were EASILY one of the fastest teams to the goals, and lifted them so quickly that opponents had little chance to get in the way. I didn't catch all of the finals matches, I heard they had to pull themselves due to difficulties, but I'd say that there was a VERY strong chance things would have gone a little differently with 308 still in there. It seems like every year this team comes out with an great machine. Congrats on a great year!

Hmmmmmmmm.... Guess I missed that match. I saw them all, we got 'em all on video (so does SOAP108) and the only thing I recall was you pulling the goal sideways with your tether a little until we dragged you across the field.

You had a good robot, but lets be clear - you did NOT in fact pull us around the field.

Doug, this might be just because it's my team you are referring too but I find the tone your comment a bit offensive. If I'm way of base here just let me know. It so happens that in that match we had our one and only mechanical problem of the competition, that being a loss of pneumatic pressure. This resulted in us being stuck out of gear. I'd have to check on this but I’m pretty sure my cat can push our robot when its out of gear, as there is no resistance left in the drive train. Can you say you have never broken down in a match? Would you like people to refer to those matches as though they were your robots best performance? That doesn't sound a whole lot like gracious professionalism to me.

I agree with DTK. Doug's comments seemed like a low blow to me. The Festo valve does not operate under 27psi, as we found out, and never had the problem again. Also, about DTK's cat, his cat is pretty old and weak, but I agree that if we are stuck in neuteral it could probably limp around the field and trap us in our endzone. I urge everyone to please keep their comments as gracious as possible. Robots malfunction, it happens.

Thanks for understanding

No matter what anyone else wants to think, your team was unbelievable. Also thank you for exibiting gracious professionalism during the batch of bad luck that was thrown at us in the divisional finals. We have our theories about why we lost power, but we all know that FIRST hardly ever grants rematches so there is no sense in being bitter about it.

hey guys, sorry bout that...Doug has been reprimended by both myself and our driver Tom. He was just a little annoyed because when he was scouting I guess someone said something which he took offense at...probably just a misunderstanding. PLease dont think in anyway that we are mad about what happened. Nats was a fun experience for all of us, and if we wre a little shocked, it is to be expected. You were an awesome robot 469, I know that noone doubts it. =)

First off, I'd like to thank all the nice comments about our bot. We worked our butts off just like everyone else and our eginneers are some of the greatest people in the world, not only to work with, but just to hang around. I do, however, agree with JGreenwd1 in saying that our bot did not perform at maximum performance. Our practice rounds were great, but as soon as Qualification rounds game about, our bot was suffering from electrical problems. Our robot was for some reason completely shutting down at times, rendering it motionless. This problem was found to be a faulty fuse which was finally replaced. Also our human shooter, who was just phenomenal at regionals was also off, however we were also up against some extremely buff bots.

As for the best robots, Wildstang is just crazy fast, even with two goals, Beatty is unstoppable, but only on the right conditions. 308 has some of the most beefy pneumatics i've ever seen, as does Kingman who is even more manuverable. And RAGE, congratz on being the winning ball bot!

However, I don't agree with the SPAM bot. I'm probably extremely biased because this is the reason we lost, I don't agree with the plastic wedge on thier bot used to lift robots off the ground. It's not battle bots. However in the rules it does state you can move robots into your home zone, however they really weren't shoving Wildstang twords thier home zone, but once again, i'm extremely biased. All of the bots at Nationals should give themselves a huge round of applause just for being there. Everyone worked just as hard and just as long as we did, so I think every bot there was the best bots.

we didn't really lift any bots up we just slid it under wildstang so it would loose its traction, It could have drove off as soon as we stoped. And Wildstang was the first and only time we used it. We didn't do it to make people mad its just ajusting your bot so you have a chance to counter certin bots (beatty). But as soon as it went down every judge on that side went right over to make sure we didn't violate any rules, so it was legitiment. Hey your entitled to your own opnion, we just though it would help us win and it did

These are my picks

Best 2 goal grabber

469--This robot can push anybody and is the strongest robot there.

Best Ball collector

95--Wins hands down, 20 balls in 5 seonds, no one can top that

Best Ball Dumper

121--I'm not bragging but I think we could really dump the balls and use ourselves as a backboard

Best Drive Train

47--Could serve with ease

Best 3 goal grabber
71--Seems the most robust of all the 3 goal grabber I saw

Best Extender
230--They had it all in this

You are correct. We mangled the gear box on the right side of our drivetrain during the first match of the championship round. We played every match of the eliminations up until that point and I think it took its toll on our machine. A gear on the first reduction stage slipped down the shaft which caused us to lose some tooth engagement. That basically mangled all of the teeth in that set of gears. They didn't even look like gears when we got the robot off the field.

For me, there were too many great robots to name them all. I still say the best is 469. ;)

I must give a lot of credit to our partners, 311 and 180. Those were two incredible machines and teams. I hope we get to play together in the future. And by the way, I thought 180's wedge was awesome!

i happened to like the wheels on team 151's robot this year, but as far as favorite complete robots go i would have to say my robot, and team 60's

My vote goes to team 60's robot. There were definitely some great robots out there, but I think team 60 had a great concept with lifting the goals, and especially having their arms on a turret. I thought everything about their robot was great (maybe I'm a little biased because we were their alliance partners) but you have to admit that it is a great machine.

GO BIONIC BULLDOGS YAY! Team 60 was rocking the house when we had picked them for the division finals. They played awesomely and because of them we didn't lose one match up until the national semi-finals against beatty.

That's my vote!

Unfortunately it worked :( To be perfectly clear, what SPAM did was completely within the rules and allowed. They flat out beat us with an excellent bot and a nice wedge addition.

My vote for most awesome bot is a tie between 469 & 60. When the divisions were announced I thought that the #1 seed in Archimedes had the best chance to win the championship just because I knew the'd be a good ball bot and that 469 was almost unstoppable. 60 was also an amazing machine, fast to the goals and lots of power. I really wish we got to see 469 & 60 face off, each rushing between the goals and pulling them back & forth for 2 mins.

The best ball bot that I saw would have to be 16. BBS is awesome. We were in our last round in qualifications, seeded eigth in Einstein.we were doing pretty good until BBS filled a goal so high I could hardly believe it. We lost 52-47, and if we had won, we probably would have been seeded 2nd or 3rd. Best goal bot would have to be Kingman. Everytime I see that machine I start to drool. It is amazing that that thing canbe so amazingly fast, lift two goals in the air, turn them, and beat up anyone that tries to mess with them, all while remaining under the 130lb limit. Hats off to you guys.

-For best Ball bot ( Although they were not at Nats) I choose the Grasshoppers Team 95
-For best Goal bot I choose Team 60 for there undeniable traction.
See ya all at the summer comps.:D

I must nominate 95 for best ball bot, they were amazing.
Also, I can't forget Buzz after all the help we received from them at Nats, they have a very good ball bot.
I think 25 should receive some credit for 'sleekness'. 25's goal grabbers are the sleekest design I have yet seen, and are a force to be reckoned with.
Also, 7 has a nice concept with their traction and durability and should be recognized.
While not trying to be biased, 84 has a very rugged and powerfull design. We were only pushed around once during the season, and that was at Nats, after we damaged our compressor, and found the our motor had been shifted 1/4". Our two speeds and suspension are definately something that has been noticed this year.

Hey! I wanna extend a hand from all of Team 60 for all of your praise! That makes (well, from what i know for sure) me really happy (I can't speak for everyone).

I have to say that I liked our robot. I thought that it was just amazing. <-- I didn't get to do that much building, and because I was at a different campus, I didn't see the bot but about 4 times before nationals. I know it's kind of selfish, but, hey! Aren't I allowed to like our robot, too?

I thought 144 was good, too. I mean, they were great throughout the whole semi-final and even final process. Thanks for picking us!

The beast. That was an awesome robot! I would have to say that was my favorite over all!
