Well, it appears that Palmetto 2006 is shaping up to be yet another awesome regional just down the road.
Already we've got Chairman's Award winners (16), winners of multiple regionals (281), and already 1466 is back to defend their title. And there's still nine in the queue and nineteen open slots!
Anybody else excited five months ahead of time?

As soon as I can get logged onto TIMS, Team 1251, TechTigers will be coming back to try and get it right this time! We are looking forward to seeing everyone again.

S.P.A.M. is in 'da house. I'm guessing that the usual SC suspects (MIM, BM, CE, to name a few) who haven't registered yet will be in attendance as well.

But the question is, will Gary Dillard be in 'da house? Or am I going to have to drive down to Florida again to get my annual Gary-Dillard-at-FIRST-regionals fix?
I also note that 1051 has signed up, making for 2/3rds of last years champions coming back. Anyone from the Swamp want to comment?

I hope I can make it there. I had a blast last year. Lots of great teams and competition. Hopefully they'll let me referee again. :)

I would imagine that slacker Dillard will pull his usual "all-talk-no-action" stunt and miss it again, but then again he did finally find an excuse to show up at IRI so you never know.

We had a great time there last season, and wish we could do it again. Unfortunately we're purchasing some equipment and therefore cannot afford 2 regionals. I'm sure the competition will be great again, there were a lot of great teams. I'll be looking for the webcast for sure.

Bummer--and yet somewhat relieving as a team member. (Much as I like 179, playing against them at Palmetto--twice, mind you--is not something I enjoy. ;) )

Well, it looks like now that FIRST posted the pending team list as well. Which means I get to be all happy that 818 (Genesis '02) is planning on coming back to Palmetto after taking a break in 2005, as are 247 (Da' Bears, with one of the best drive/coach teams I've been on the field with). And 34, 342, and 343 are coming back for the third time around.
This'll be fun.
Several members of team 538 are hoping can come to Palmetto. Its up to if we can rise enough money for a bus.

I drove the robot for team 1051 for each year at Columbia and I can't this year because I graduated... I'm going to miss it soo much this year, even though I may go to watch or help out what I can. It will be something I will always remember, which is a good thing ...I think...

If 587 had the money for a second regional, we'd certainly go to Palmetto. Alas, we have far from it. But, if we did, we'd love to see our friends at S&M (900) there.

You know, I've been a part of FIRST going on 5 years, and I still don't know where to go to see information about team lists for regionals during pre-season. I don't know if my old team is gonna be there, because I've been too busy with college to check up on em yet. I will however be mentoring. In anycase, I'll most likley drive down for the weekend, because I missed the last one and I really regret it. I watched the whole thing via webcast at least, it was really awesome. I can't wait for the new season. ^_^

By the way, since I know folks are now in the process of making travel arrangements, I figured it'd be smart to point out a few things.
1) Anything out towards Harbison Boulevard will be a good twenty minutes from the Colonial Center. If you get stuck in rush hour, plan on it taking closer to 30. Staying out on Harbison does have its advantages, though. There's plenty of food, shopping, hardware stores (Lowe's and Home Depot, and Northern Tool and Equipment is one exit off), and entertainment in that area.
2) Unless I'm completely missing a hotel, the only hotel within walking distance of the Colonial Center is the Holiday Inn on Assembly Street, about two blocks away as the crow flies.
3) On the subject of vehicles, I'd highly suggest bringing vans or something else that doesn't require several parking spaces. Last year, the parking lots by the Colonial Center were not closed off from USC students, which meant it was a bit of a scramble to find parking even for a normal car. If you have to get a bus, get there early. (The Russell House, USC's student union about three blocks away, opens up around 7:00 for breakfast. The walk will get the blood flowing.)
4) Folks flying in: Columbia's airport has free wi-fi. Celebrate or groan, depending on your team policy.
5) The road construction mess from last year is done. Thank goodness.
If anyone needs to know anything about this town, I'm glad to answer. :)

The story goes back as far as the Palmetto Regional itself.
One of the rules about Team Socials is that you can't dance. (Something about an incident a few years ago where a kid got hurt.) So the folks running the Team Social posted signs all over the courtyard in Swearingen (where it's held) readingUnfortunately,
Dancing is not
allowed
For some reason, people found it humorous. Several turned up at the 2004 Championship a few weeks later, and team 900 had one laminated and had it on their robots ever since.
I can't wait for this competition--and I haven't even seen the robots yet!

Has anyone noticed that we're now playing host to 45 teams?!
It seemed a little tight last year with 42 (to the point that 1618 and 1650 were off in a corner by the inspection station). Does anyone remember any wide-open spaces that were left that way last year, or should we tell the folks at USC Vehicle Management (whose main area is directly out of the Colonial Center's back door) that we're putting the practice field in their lot? ;)

Team 818 is also happy to be back in Palmetto. Also, our team will the the server host at the Palmetto Regional for FSN (First Scouting Network, www.firstscouting.net). We don't know if we will offer internet on top of the scouting stuff (unless they got WIFI there) then that won't be an issue. If they don't have WIFI and we do provide internet, you would connect through our server to either Verizon EVDO High Speed Network or Verizon 1x DSL speed (I just had to get technical) but anyways, that is still in the works. If any team would be willing to help us out, PM me as soon as you can so I can arrange something.

USC does have wireless internet for students and staff, although it's a bit of a pain to get started with it. I don't know whether that access extends to the Colonial Center or not. Either way, I haven't heard anything about internet access at any Palmetto Regional. And a quick check of Verizon Wireless seems to indicate that EVDO isn't here in Colatown yet.
Combine that with the manual saying not to arrange for internet access, and I just don't think I'll be able to get my Delphi fix in the building. (If you're wondering, there's a Kinko's just up Greene Street, about two blocks off.)

I found that out today too about the no EVDO, but colatown does have 1x, which has DSL speed. Now i'm not making any promises about the internet, but the scouting will be there for sure. I didn't even know about the WIFI there, so I won't even consider that as an option. I know I will have Internet for sure, but I don't know if I will release it for open access.

I went to Verizon today and asked about if we could do something like this and they say yes. So now there is a 50% chance that we will offer full internet at the regionals. We need volunteers to help us with the FSN, please pm me if you can help! All help is appreciated.

Well, we are the one pending team at the moment (Sunday evening, Jan 21), and as soon as we can get the right person to log into TIMS on Monday, we will be clearing that out. We just found out at the last minute that one of our sponsors will not be participating this year, so no $$$. Darn, we were really looking forward to making the trip :(

Sorry to hear that. Perhaps you'll be able to get a carload of folks to day trip over here on Saturday? (One of our mentors did the same trip backwards for the Championship last year, and he made it alright.)
On an unrelated note, I got a little bored in Google Earth tonight, so I whipped up a .kmz file with some locations around campus and town that I figure are moderately important (alright, and a few that might not be important to anyone but me):

Close, but not quite. One of 1293's alumni (whose father and sister are with the team as well) goes to Clemson (I like him anyway ;) ) and occasionally helps us out on Saturdays.
(For those who are just reading this thread, USC and Clemson are rivals, about two hours apart. USC plays host to Palmetto, and is about 20 minutes from 1293land.)

Hey,
Our team will soon be sending out a letter to the teams attending this regional and what is needed to be properly put in our FSN (First Scouting Network) database. This will mostly likely be just in the form of filling out a scouting form but that is still left to be questioned. Attached is a sample of the scouting form. This most likely will be sent out next week and should be completed and sent back by the end of the build period. If you have any comments, suggestions, or concerns, please P.M. me.
Thank You,

Yea! Baby! MiM will be there!
It is great to see all the teams that have already registered. We like the "knock down, drag out" style of play at the Palmetto. Man, the excitement is beginning to build as the traditional heavyweights of FIRST have penciled in their name to come.
I look forward to seeing you, Stephen K. Looks like MiM will do VCU this year instead of Fla. We will miss the action down south, but I think we are in a rotation to give our team members some new sights.
Good luck to everyone this year! :p

Here is an almost final version (if not final) of the Scouting sheet we will be using at the Palmetto Regional for FSN.
This should be sent out to teams in this regional soon, so if you can, fill it out now so we can post it on the server before the regional therefore causing less problems. Send them to usfirst818@gmail.com

OK...Billfred...lets move this thread back to the front page. Just a note to say that we are working hard to make the Palmetto regional better than ever. Our planning committee is deep into the planning cycle...finishing up some loose ends. We are expecting to be on NASA Webcast, as well as, our usual TV stations and media in attendance producing a lot of video for use throughout the off season (if such a thing exist). What a list of teams this year, many returning and many for the first time. Next to the Las Vegas Reg., we have the most states represented (13). We will again be providing a large screen hanging from the back of the curtain divider that will be displaying the team rankings as the competion continues. USC is planning a social that will be different from the past...Donn Griffith (an old 343 teammate of mine) is now with USC...so expect some new things. So, good luck to all of the teams this weekend and next....you are welcome anytime to come to Palmetto....more to come.
Frank :)

Indeed, I've been emailing with Donn. Y'all are going to dig this team social--it may be enough to sell me on going to USC, and I'm already here! ;)
Will News19 be doing their traditional too-darn-early-in-the-morning show from the Colonial Center? (If so, I propose a massive walk up to the Russell House to partake in some Einstein Bros. Bagels, which are most definitely worth the walk, after the show. I wonder if they could be persuaded to open a smidge before their usual 7:30.)

Hmmmmmm................
If I book a roundtrip flight from West Palm to Hartford (through Charlotte) for business next Tuesday and Wednesday, it's $234.
If I book the exact same route, except leave off the flight from Charlotte back to West Palm, it's $545!
If I then add a leg from Charlotte to Columbia, it drops to $304.
Book round trip, don't check bags, get off in Charlotte, pay for Billfred's gas and dinner to come get me in Charlotte, come back on the bus with the team ........priceless.
The Palmetto Regional will be awesome. Here are stats on teams:
13 states are represented
24 teams are from SC
5 teams are rookies (all for SC)
21 have played in at least one previous regional this year
2 were ranked in the top eight (180 and 337)
3 were "picking" teams (94, 180, 337)
15 played in the finals
9 won their QF
6 won their SF (16, 180, 281, 343, 818, 1319)
3 won their Regional (180, 343, 1319) with their alliance, of course

The word around Swearingen is that WIS-TV will be doing their morning show from the Colonial Center as well. This year, they've also tapped some of the robots to show off a bit on the air. (Robots on live TV. Duck and cover! ;))

I'm thinking we'll be better off than you... but not by that much, since we're estimating like an 8 o'clock arrival which isn't too bad except you're on a bus that long...
When in doubt, I'll stop by your pit and attempt to wake you up. :p

Approximately zero hours and zero minutes (http://www.usfirst.org/robotics/2006/regional/agenda/2006_Palmetto_Public_Agenda.pdf). 7:45 AM for your three uncraters, 8:30 for everyone.
On a side note, I do know that after the morning show on Friday and FIRST throws us out, 1293 will be headed to the Russell House (1400 Greene St--about half a mile from the Colonial Center, uphill but tolerable) for bagels. Einstein Bros. opens at 7:30, but the Russell House opens at 7:00. If you're in need of a good and quick breakfast place, I can wholeheartedly recommend them--especially if you don't mind a little walking or have your bus with you. (Just don't plan on repeating that ride for lunch--they close the gates to Greene Street during the day Thursday and Friday.)
Oh, and another thing--all that annoying road construction from last year is over and done with. There's a little bit on Park Street, but that's right behind the Carolina Coliseum--you can steer around it without incident. (Left turns off Blossom might be a little trickier, but it's still manageable.)

Billfred...you are right...no set up on Wednesday..unless you want to show up and help with the field setup on Wednesday mid morning....We will be working all day (night?)...what ever it takes to be ready for Thursday a.m.
We will be opening the doors to the Colonial Center at 7:45 to let three team members...remember the make up has to be two students and one adult to go down to the floor for uncrating. Then at 8:30 the Pits open (enter through the rear of the Colonial Center...for all new comers, you can pull around with your trailers or just get in line with your stuff and enter the rear overhead door...level walk to the pits..easy, easy, easy. We will be meeting and greeting the teams as they arrive on Thursday a.m. prior to the doors opening....our hope is to have a listing of the teams that owe any shipping charges to let you know that before you hit the floor. Oh...one other thing...all teams should avoid trying to bring in large tool boxes through the front doors of the Colonial Center....Why?...well you can't get a large tool box down the stairs to the floor...you have to be escorted to the freight elevator and it is quite a walk...best to have one of your team members bring anything large in through the rear door when the pits open....a lot easier and quicker.
For all of the teams traveling in...be safe and get as much rest, as possible...I know that is hard.

It has to be that exact makeup? Everything I had read seemed to indicate three warm bodies without regard to race, creed, or possession of high school diploma. (I only ask because we'd planned on two mentors and one student.)

We were given that information during our walk through...I will check on this tomorrow to verify and post update....It may not matter if there is at least one mentor (two may be fine) within the group of three. Frank

Great to see you in Atlanta....enjoyed watching you bot....like always 34 stands out. Talk about road trips...you guys should win an award for the most consecutive regionals with the greatest distance traveled....an I was complaining about having to drive to Hilton Head, SC for meetings this week. Good luck in CA....I'll be checking the standings and awards...see you in Palmetto. Frank
Were on our way back to the Right coast for more fun (week 3) at the Palmetto Regional. We're a little jet lagged and we have a major sugar buzz (The Jelly Belly candy plant is in Sacramento) but our 'bot survived an it's ready to go. We just hope it gets shipped in time (it was held in Memphis on it's way to Sacramento and didn't arrive until 7:00 p.m. on practice day).
Anyway, we made the final tournament for the second week in a row and we're feeling pretty good about that. See 'ya in a couple days ......

The concession stands nearest the entrance are normally open for lunch. Expect to pay $5-8 for a decent meal.
There is a preorder option, but I think the deadline has passed on that one.
If you want to save a few bucks, there are a few other places within two or three blocks.

Okay, So, I'm watching the Palmetto webcast on Thursday. As they're loading the robots onto the field (Practice Round #15) I spot a robot that is using a LAWN CHAIR for their ball dump mechanism! How awesome is that!?! Check out team 1284 if you're roaming around the pits. I've love to see some upclose pictures of the mechanism.

I just flopped down in my bed a few minutes ago, and I won't be getting out of it anytime soon (read: until at least 3:00 AM).
1293 got off to a rough start this morning, in no small part because we're used to working where we work. (That's not normally the Colonial Center.) For two of our matches, we were sidelined with code issues. The other two, we were sidelined with battery issues. Made for a fun day, I'll tell you. (Especially that part at the end of getting the robot from inspection to the field for Live with Lucas tomorrow morning and getting out the door--while walking--in about a minute and a half.)
We've fixed a few things, and Chomp is working better than it was for it. I can't wait to see this thing in action for real.
And I just want the record to reflect it: We on 1293 are really sorry for the whack in autonomous we delivered to 1618 today during practice. Our driver and I went to check on them and apologize after the match, and everything seems to be alright. (Yes, I'll say it: Blame it on software.)

How's everyone's day go? Team 95 has had quite a good day of practice matches and tweaking, a nice reversal from Manchester where we had software problems the entire time (knock on wood).

I am the announcer, and I saw about 60 matches up close today with the best and most gracious teams in the nation Aiming High. The defense has been strategic, and I recall, there was only 1 high-hit called all day despite some matches ending with as many as four robots tipped over. The ramps have been quite a challenge.
It is a pleasure to see such camaraderie in the heat of competition. I am looking forward to a great Saturday.

It's all good in the hood. No damage done to us (ignoring ego ;))
We're struggling in certain areas--some things aren't quite going how we thought they would--but we've got three more matches tomorrow. Our kids have busted their collective butts the past two days, and I'm optimistic that we can still pull out our best regional on the field to date.

They had hard times at the Florida regionl, but they didn't give up. They truly show the spirit of FIRST. Congrats 1251 Techtigers. You guys amaze me.

Team 422 would like to thank Team 281 EnTech for their gracious professionalism in putting the best interests of their alliance over their own.
When it became apparent that their robot was not fully functional, they courteously bowed down and allowed the other two teams the best chance at success in the final rounds. These actions are some of those who best exemplify the spirit FIRST and the principal of gracious professionalism.

Hey this is Eric on team 247 typing from our hotel room...
We had a really rough couple of days (in 44th position at the end of qualifiers), but I'm glad team 11 saw that we had improved a lot. We really worked well together in a qualifying match (I think it was one of the highest if not the highest scoring match on Friday). They shot, we blocked. Also props to team 1251: you guys were awsome. Quite often they just snuck into the corner - uncontested - and dumped everything.
This is the first regional we've ever won in our eight years as a team. Pretty gosh darn exciting...

I will like to give a special THANK YOU to team 845 (Cutting Edge). If it wasn't for you guys we would not have performed as we did.
I also want congratulate team 11 (MORT), not only for having a great robot with a great autonomous mode, but also for having a great scouting team. You guys did not pay attention to the ranking position but to what the robots abilities were and how consistent they were. Thanks to this scouting we made a very strong alliance.

Well, 845 has been an absolute savior to 1251 this year. They had done so much for us already, but at Palmetto this amazing team came through again. 1251 decided after the Florida regional that we were taking our ball grabbing mechanism off to make our ball hopper bigger and just do human loading. However, we forgot the Lexan to make our hopper bigger and 845 thankfully was able to donate to us a whole piece and if anybody has seen the prices today on a sheet of 4ft*8ft lexan it's not cheap. Past competitions they have been our alliance partners, let us borrow tools and batteries.
Thanks from the whole 1251 crew 845!!!!!

This was an awesome regiona, and in my opinion, completely worth the 13 hour bus ride we took to attend it!
Can't wait to hopefully return and compete in another great Palmetto competition!
Thanks to all again!
~Zara... but you can call me Pi-girl~
Palmetto was so much fun! It was great to have all the teams from our alliance sitting together. Thanks to 16 and 95 for their confidence in the Pi-oneers. Together we were amazing! Also, loved the flag during finals!!!Hey all!
Palmetto was awesome, and it was great to have another shot at competing after our problems at the Manchester regional.
Congrats to the winning alliance, a very impressive colection of bots and players.
Thanks especially to the Bomb Squad and PIoneers; Making it to the finals was great, especially for us seniors for whom it was our last shot. All you guys were awesome, and thanks again to PIoneers for the shirts.
16-95-1676 - 2nd place in Palmetto
good luck to all from 95 (Drive Team Coach + Human Player)

Some thoughts about Palmetto, now that I survived the ride home with P and the trailer...
First and foremost, congratulations to M.O.R.T., DaBears and Tech Tigers - wow, if we had to come in second, I am glad it was to you guys. I am so proud to have been on the same field with you guys. I normally would wish you luck at Nationals, but you guys are so good, you don't need luck. But, good luck anyway....
None of this would have happened if the Bomb Squad team 16 hadn't picked us - our first quarterfinal, semifinal and final, all at once! The Grasshoppers team 95 were equally awesome, and there's a photo (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46106) to prove it. Thanks to both of you, we really did form a great alliance. Both you guys work so well under pressure.
The people at Palmetto are so friendly and helpful. More teams that I can count helped us there, and we appreciate all of it. The purple hot melt glue, armadillo, #35 chain offset link (during finals!), battery chargers, and myriad other things we were given, all helped us make an astounding (to us) accomplishment. Even the judges, referees, FIRST folks, photographers and even the venue staff were all just amazing.
This might sound odd, but the bathrooms (well, the men's rooms at least) were by far the cleanest I have even seen at any public venue. Real hot water which stayed on long enough, always soap & towels, and spotless even at the end of a long day. I'm impressed.
I finally met Billfred in person! And he even knew where Radio Shack was!
Lastly, but not leastly, my team. I'm way too old for this, but I felt like a kid again. Dan (CEO), thanks for allowing me to be on the floor, I can't believe you didn't snatch that badge back from me the first moment you could. JK, Shu and Dom, just thanks - words can't describe it. Phil, Kevin, Ed, and our Team Mom Lisa, you are all far too modest, I'd proud to be considered an equal...
The scouting team, those I saw and those I didn't, YOU were the entire reason for our turnaround Saturday, and look what your hard work did for the team. (Finalists! Woo Hoo!). Lee, Kyle & Katie, thanks for a job well done. (Note: I found that the size of the code does NOT affect weight! I tried it.;)
From Andrew to Zach, Mike, Brian, Eric, and the rest of the pit crew - you guys are the best, thanks for keeping cool under the pressure, I admire that.
Zara (Pi-Girl? Since when?), Lizzie, the rest of the crew, the programming team (you know who you are!).... In short, everyone, including those watching on the Web...
Thanks for the hardest fun ever.
Don

I agree with Sebas up there^!!!!
Palmetto was an amazing Regional.
I had so much fun! And thank you to 1251, TechTigers for letting us share a bus with you guys. I think I can speak for the entire team when I say this : We had an awesome time hanging out with you guys.
I would also like to thank team 1026 for scouting and not just looking at our matches but our robot itself. And any other teams who had looked at our robot as well, and not jsut our matches.
This was also the first time Team 108 has ever gone to the Palmeto Regional but I can say it was beautifully orginized, it was so much fun, and we are so happy that SOAP was able to help out any teams that needed it.
Hope that everyone else had a great time, too!

I have about 300 pics/vids from Palmetto which I will post over the next few days. I met Billfred at the Social. We had a great robot but I would rather not comment on how we did as an alliance because I would get a lot of flaming. Oh well.

I LOVE PALMETTO.
Everyone at this regional is so friendly, so nice, and so inspirational. This is why MORT keeps coming back each year.
Some thanks are in store...
TEAM 247 and TEAM 1251. We couldn't have asked for a better alliance. Rankings didn't matter in this case, because I knew you guys were amazing, so never lose faith! You guys were EVERYTHING, and we REALLY can't wait to see you at Nats. KEEP IN TOUCH. And hey, thanks for getting all your mentors in that fountain!
(and P.S. thanks 108 for cheering for us, we know we loved cheering for you guys)
Thanks to the Pi-oneers, for the support from good ole JERSEY, you guys did great through the whole competition, BE PROUD.
Thank you to all those volunteers. WOW did you guys clean up that field like none other. I couldn't get over how fast everyone was, it even stressed me out because it was less time for collection of thoughts after each match!
If you saw two girls from MORT walking around with a camera, thanks for your "one word to describe FIRST," the documentary should be AMAZING.
Congrats to ALL the teams at Palmetto, you ALL did awesome, there's no denying that at all. (Especially 16, 95, and 1676)
And of course, thanks to my own team. The drive team, programmers, and scout team. None of this would have been possible without you. Thanks for trusting I would make the right decisions, even though you all know deep down you were worried. Thanks to Mike from 247 for giving me that extra push to go with my gut feeling, and not what I was "supposed" to do.
Hope everyone keeps in touch, and I'll SEE YOU AT NATIONALS.
MORT, Tigers, and Bears...OH MY!

i am definantly looking forward to coming back next year
The Palmetto Regional was amazing! The competition was exciting, and there were many great teams that attended. I would like to thank the PIoneers (1676) and the Grasshoppers (95) for being great alliance partners! :D Finals were intense and we had great competition. Congratulations to teams 1251, 11, and 247 for an outstanding performance!
The flag was awesome and I love the “PIhopper Squad” … that’s great!
Good luck to all teams attending Nationals!

Hey all!
I want to thank everyone at the Palmetto Regional for making it an awesome one!
Congratulations to our friends from New Jersey, MORT 11 along with DaBears 247 and TechTigers 1251 for winning! It was a great match, even if my team's robot went down in autonomous.
Also, thanks to my own team's amazing alliance, Bomb Squad 16 and Grasshoppers 95! I think we put up some good fights there and I don't know about you all, but I had a great time cheering on our alliance!!! [[Plus the flag was pretty fun to rig with all the items, creating the "Pihopper Squad" :D ]]

I LOVE PALMETTO.
Team 95 is getting to be quite fond of Palmetto ourselves. We've only been there twice, and each time we've gotten some hardware to show for it. It's quite different from BAE, in that teams are more relaxed, the bots more polished, the weather nicer, and the game play much more brutal.
That, and 1676+16+95 made for some pretty fun elimination matches. First time as a mentor I've been able to watch right from the sideline, too.

It was a great event for us, but I was surprised that we were not chosen for elimination rounds. We had our share of problems, but we worked through them and finished 19th. In our last match we dumped all 10 balls into the lower goal in autonomous. We usually scored another 8 to 12 after that. On defense, we shut down anyone we were assigned to, including 343 Metal in Motion. We almost always got onto the ramp.
It makes me think that marketing is more important that function, (just like the real world). Anyway, watch for us in Atlanta.

well you are welcome for the little boost to picmk 1251, it was a hard decision, and I am very glad you looked to me to help you out in your decision. I thank you for the compliment, and the whole team thanks you all for picking us to win Palmetto. I wish you guys the best of luck and hopefully our paths cross in nationals. That would be sweet to go to nationals with 11 and 247 on an alliance like none other. Thanks for everything and keep in touch.

Don't worry. You will be watched at Nats.
If its any consolation, you were a DEFINITE consideration by MORT. We knew you guys dumped well, had you down as one of the top 4 best dumpers. See you in ATLANTA.

Well put, alot of people were pretty puzzled by us picking a low seeded, non-shooting team. But thanks to great scouting, we knew you'd be key to our alliance. Proves that seeding doesn't mean much in some cases, which is why you need a good eye on scout team, and thinking outside the box.

Oh man what an exciting regional! Congrats to the Tech Tigers I LOVE you guys. I'm so happy that my team got to be in an alliance with 108 they've been one of my favorite teams for years. Thank's to anyone who cheered us on including 1270, you guys are allways fun. I'm also glad to see team 16 make it down to SC! I remember travelling with 343 my freshmen year of highschool to the St. Louis regional (2002) and watching you guys take it. I really liked all the designs Grasshoppers were amazing. I can't wait till nationals/ next season when I can actually mentor. Thanks to ALL for making this a good regional to watch. :)

Personally I feel that our alliance demonstrated what FIRST is all about. It's not about the wins, it's about how well you work together.
Congratulations to everyone! it was an amazing regional!
a special thanks to the tech tigers for blocking for us during autonomous, we couldn't have won autonomous with out you guys covering us! and thanks to da' bears. Both of your teams are amazing!

It might be a little late but I'm doing it anyway.
On behalf of Team 1319 Golden Strip Robotics, I would like to thanks teams 1436, 1284, and 337 for going to the quarterfinals.
Y'all played like true champions and it was a pleasure to be alongside such fine people. You were truly gracious professionals in the heat of battle and we appreciate everything. We played our hearts out against a very strong alliance and we held our heads high.
We hope to see you again! :)

Did anyone see a team bring their robot into the CC from a bus?
I didn't.
(man, someone came all the way from India for Palmetto?)
Ira Goldberg

More likely than not, that was us. We brought our "b" bot down on the bus and kept it in the back of our Suburban to strip off parts as needed. For example, we took the omni wheels off the "b" bot in anticipation of our wheels on the"competition" bot failing. We also ran out and took an Igus pillow block off the bot for 1758 when one of theirs failed.

YOU HAD IGUS PILLOW BLOCKS!!!!
that was the part that broke on our bot in the finals. for the next three matches we had 3 wheel drive. and during or after every match we would have to pick up our missing wheel. fortunantly we were still able to get up the ramp with three wheels

this years was our best ever, big thanks to team 34 for letting us share a bus with them, and teams 68 & 180 for choosing us to go to the finals with them, didn't make it past the semi-finals, but hey, we have never been that far, so it was still an overwhelming experience

You can also scratch 56, 61, and 67 from that list. (My notes indicate those were 1293's matches, and we didn't climb the ramp.)

And scratch any match with Team 95, we didn't try to climb the ramp at Palmetto (it was better for us to stay at the far end and continue to pile balls in the 3 point goal).

Those pillow blocks are awesome, but not great for DT purposes. We used ours to support the bracket on our throwing arms.

They only have some of the practice matches, and as luck would have it none of the grasshopper's. Which is greatly unfortunate as I wanted to see/show people those as our autonomous mode never worked again like it did on thursday....

Yup yup. This was certialy our best year. I big thanks to teams 34, 68, and 180! We really enjoyed this year. One of my favorite thing said to us while there by another team "You übergeeks have been pushing us around all weekend, I think you deserve a button." (a mentor from team 343) For anyone that saw the webcat or was there, you know exactly what he meant. Our robot didnt work as expected when we got there so a few changes and we were sheer defense.
Well, This was a great year, good luck to all those that are in the finals in Atlanta! For the rest of you, See you in 2007!

How very true. The first finals match, they were moderately effective - good enough to win it. The second finals match, they were absolutely devastating (in a nice way) to 1676's autonomous defense. No doubt, theirs was a critical contribution to the alliance. Well done!

Good luck in many amazing years to come!
