Hey everyone, I found this little list while I was digging through some of my old school stuff. Some members of our team made this list up at about 2 or 3 am on the way back from nationals. So please enjoy and feel free to add your own.
10 things that tell you if you've been in FIRST too long (courtesy of 677):
1. You know all the words to the Vengaboys Party Album
2. Red Bull and coffee are food groups
3. You start incorporating you mentors' mannerisms into you own everyday life
4. Your mentors no longer feel bad about calling you names
5. 3 AM becomes an early time to go to bed
6. When "CAR" does not refer to a moving vehicle
7. When one of your team members is considered a possession of VEX
8. When baked goods are the preferred form of currency
9. You spend Easter Sunday inside Home Depot looking for the PERFECT pair of safety glasses
10. You know stories about your mentors' childhoods complete with song and dance
11) Half the things (or more) in the You Know You're Addicted to FIRST When... thread apply to you.
12) You don't have a life outside robotics anymore.
13) You start losing track of how old your team really is and which game (or robot) is from which year.
(Uhoh. At least numbers 12 and 13 apply to me... :ahh: )

Shouldn't "2. Red Bull and coffee are food groups" be "2. The three sides of the food tetra are Caffinated Drinks, Coffee, and Pizza." ?

And you had to walk uphill both ways, in the snow to get to the shop ;)
14) Your team has actually been snowed into your shop* trying to finish your robot to meet the ship deadline.
15) You actually understand the true meaning of FIRST, and you're loving it.
16) You now try to get everyone else around you involved in FIRST, until their faces glaze over because you talk to them so much about it.
*This actually did happen to our team a few years ago. There was about 18 or so inches of snow during the day while we were working at the school shop, and when we decided to try to leave, the team could not get the doors to open because too much snow had piled up against them. It was too late at night (about 2 AM) to call someone's family to dig us out, so our team cleared off the work tables and slept there for the night. http://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/6.gif

when pizza folding becomes an issue
when building a paper airplane, you draw it in inventor and put fold lines on it
doesn't all food come with aluminum flakes and sawdust in it?
when you would prefer to be in the shop than at home (even in off-season)

You first design your pumpkin (down to the mm) in inventor before even touching or carving it... oh, wait... that's what I spent my day doing....
You look forward to kickoff more then Christmas (or whatever you celebrate)
You have had plans to spray paint a giant FIRST logo on the floor of the quad... never gonna happen, anyway....
You design gearboxes, arms, and other strange FIRST related devices all over napkins at resturaunts, then attempt to explain the diagrams to confused waitpersons.

...when you have at least three generations of the FIRST logo apparent in your room at one time...
...when you regularly wear FIRST/VEX shirts/hats around school/home/work without a care nobody else knows what it means...
...when you can do that for multiple weeks straight...

When you look on your dresser and see an Epcot lanyard with an ASME ID card attached.
When you open the "junk" drawer in the kitchen and several really cool pens, buttons, etc, fall out including a Huskie's dog tag and a Holland Christian tape measure.
Your refrigerator magnets are red, white and blue and only a few of them are flags.
Your computer's FIRST Folder contains sub folders for FLL 2000 and CDI 2000 and it takes more than one CD to give your teams History subteam all your pictures.
And my personal favorite...The son or daughter (or both) who got you into this goofy competition have already graduated college and are working in the real world and you now have someone to watch the dog while you are away at First events.

-You tell the incoming freshmen they will be elevated above other freshmen if they join robotics

... when choosing between having your birthday party or another build session, you make the right choice and bring a FIRST themed cake, ice cream and pizza.
... when your grades take a hit between time in FIRST and a state-champion marching band.
... when the phrase "inhale audibly" is in your regular vocabulary.
...when there are six threads and over 110 posts discussing the game clue within 10 hours of the clue being relesed - and it is one day before Christmas when you all should be focusing on the fact that you are out of school for the holidays, you get some time off work, you can spend time with family, and there is all that shopping to be done!
Geez, some people need to get a life. Like, what are you doing right now - you are reading this. It is Christmas Eve, for goodness sake! Stop reading CD and go see your family! Okay, to clearify it was a program I was watching on the discovery channel, and it was being used in the robotics field to help build power supplies that do no needh human intervention. I do remember that the power cell they used with using the flies would take 3 days of "digesting" for 5 minutes of movement.

...When your parents get you a digital multimeter for christmas and its the first thing you play with
...when you get a digital multimeter for Christmas and there's only one reason it isn't the first thing you play with. You also got digital calipers, and start making detailed, measured diagrams of common household objects (scotch tape dispenser, paper cutter, etc.) to model in Inventor, "just for fun".
You know you've been in FIRST to long:
1. When most of your T-shirts are old team uniforms and FIRST crew shirts from 10 years ago.
2. When your spouse (who doesn't sew) offers to make all those old shirts into a a quilt.
3. When you continuously find 20 and 30 amp circuit breakers in odd places like seat cushions and lint traps.
4. When January doesn't start until the first Saturday of the New Year.
5. when you have an opportunity to go to the party at Dean's house and skip it in order to experience the January Night Life in Manchester.
6. When you say, "Oh No, not another ride on a Segway!"
7. and "Oh No, not another homework assignment."

-When you forget what birthday cake tastes like without metal shavings in it.(havent had a metal-less cake since 4th grade, and imm almost done with High school now)
-The first famous person you ever met in FIRST was Jeb Bush( If anyone remembers, that was about 7 years ago)
-when your done early with a test, flip the paper over, and imediatly start drawing FIRST symbols, and designing a new team T-Shirt(I'm guilty of that, its not even funny)

$14) A little.
$15)More than you know.
$16)My step father hates when I start talking about it because I haven't shutup about it in 7 years.
add this: If you've ever been hit by a deer, wrecked your car, on the way to the meeting, and still arrived on time.
and this: If you've ever begged the only tech guy at the firstPLACE during the off season to give you a tour, AND GOT ONE, because you flew 800 miles to see it.
and this: If you worked for months in preperation for the start of competition your rookie year (and your teams rookie year) to learn the programming language required. (P-BASIC for me.. and I was the only programmer)
(all are me).

3. You start incorporating you mentors' mannerisms into you own everyday life

8. When baked goods are the preferred form of currency
9. You spend Easter Sunday inside Home Depot looking for the PERFECT pair of safety glasses
10. You know stories about your mentors' childhoods complete with song and dance
you know you are addicted when you have a hard time remembering that you kow people outside of your teammates..that you have a job to do... and someone has to TELL you to leave school...tee hee... i'm not a builder on the team... just the crafty creativity leader person... ish... thing... errr... team squirrel... yeah... lets stick with that lol :D

when you spend time reading all of these lists in all fourms having to do with this... forgetting about sleep to design... and when you say you are mwahaha
when you read the robotics manual for pleasure reading.

When you bring your laptop everyday to school with you because you are "Game rule monitor" even if you don't have a robotics meeting, just in case you think of something and need to check it against the rules
When you start having dreams about FIRST (I did last night and this is my rookie year!)

It seems a bit freaky to mew but the night before kickoff while i was sleeping I had some sort of Deja Vu and could almost tell that we were going to be shooting stuff this year. I think when u can predict the future you have been in FIRST way to long. :D

Here's another- When your parents are talking about your uncle Victor and you ask which CIM he is controlling.
Long story... but true.
When your diet now consists of, bagels, doritos, and coca-cola...
Yea pretty much when building season starts, the parents have to bring the food and pretty much they bring chips, with sodas, and if no parent brings any food. We're stuck with bagels donated by some sponsor we have. And yes sometimes we have to have...left-over bagels -.-
When you spent the last three days before shipping with the team completing the robot in your own garage.
( this actually happened to me last year, my garage has yet to recover )
When your weekend includes:
Working on the robot.
Shopping for parts needed for building robot.
Going to chief delphi forums to see other peoples robot.
Discussing the progress of the robot during dinner.
Dreaming about the robot.
Lol

You know you've been in FIRST too long
when your key ring ends up looking like THIS:

DISCLAIMER: some car keys have a chip in the plastic & if you cut it off or drill through it the key will no longer work in your car & dont ask me how I know this!

...When you can look at a random number and figure out which FIRST team has that number.

... when you design multiple Lego League, Vex, and FRC games during your spare time
you know you have been in first too long when you have so much aluminum in your blood that you set off metal detectors
-when your order at mcdonalds comes to 2.29 and you save the reciept
-when working on a physics problem and 229 suddenly shows up on your calculator. needless to say there were 4 firsters in the class laughing suddenly

The night custodian and security guard at school know you by your first name.
You show up to school on a snow day to work on the robot.

when your walking through Boston and suddenly see a building that was built is 1733 and you start screaming at your son who is the actual team member about it and he grabs the cell phone and asks some stranger to take a picture of us standing next to the sign on the wall.
When you spend a rather large amount of money on a car and then insist that extra tie downs be installed in the back to strap down the robot in a way that looks like a seat belt and then you put the robot into the van buckle it in and tuck a warm blanket around it so it does not get cold. i mistakenly thought it might be bad to get the electronics cold so i wanted to help. little did i know. *shrugs*
When you can line a wall with empty 2 litter bottles of mountain dew code red and duct tape and .... the wall is full and there are less then 10 kids on the team.
When your mom makes posts on chiefdelphi.com just because she is sitting "supervising" and forgot the question she was to look up for the team. now mom how many cylinders can we install and still be "legalish"

1. You know all the words to the Vengaboys Party Album
We actually had disney sons from nearly all the movies playing today... And even more strangely none of our female members were there...
It was interesting seeing guys complain about hitting next halfway through the Mulan soundtrack.
3. You start incorporating you mentors' mannerisms into you own everyday life
4. Your mentors no longer feel bad about calling you names
This is entirely true....
Another one to add;
You lose track of what day it is during long code-a-thons. Our programmers and myself (former programmer turned design/fab/assembly) definitely did this this weekend. (9AM to 5AM and then waking up at 8 AM. rinse, repeat)
