View Full Version : I broke my inventor 10 CD!

The case that houses the inventor 10 CDs is difficult to remove CDs from. While trying to remove CD 1, I cracked it!!! Not only is the case too strong, these CDs seem to be made of an atypical plastic that is very brittle. Normally, you can bend a CD almost a complete 180 degrees without them snapping although they will be permanently deformed. Be very careful!

If anybody would be willing to help me out by say supplying me an ISO, this would be GREATLY appreciated. As far as i know, this does not violate the liscencing agreement.

Did you try calling or emailing them? I'm sure if the product was defective (which it sounds like it was as it was their case that caused the break) that they would send you a new one

That's what I thought when I first opened the cases. You'd think the button they put in the middle does something to those little teeth, but it doesn't, and to prevent flexing the CDs too much I actually squeezed them with pliers first!

Very surprising. I've had a lot of experience hacking apart CDs (drilling, cutting, etc) and they seem pretty flexible actually. Drilling will crack it if you go in too fast, but a CD cracking from taking it out of the case - I've never heard of that one.

Yeah, it is important to squeeze all the teeth with your fingers at once. The little flap with cd's 3 and 4 is even worse, because it's difficult to press down the shorter teeth which grip the cd all too well.

Any pictures of the case and cd?
I would like to see!

E-mail FIRST team support about it.

The same thing happened to us a few days ago, and we sent them an e-mail. They got back to us within a few hours and told us a new copy was en route.

It seems as if a lot of teams have been having this problem.

Just send an email explaining your problem to frcteams@usfirst.org. They will in turn ask Autodesk to send you another copy.

I emailed them. I will let all you CD people know what the outcome is. I think a FIRST email Blast cautioning against these CD cases might be in order.

The same thing happened to our team. Email your mailing address to: Kelly.Stanphill@autodesk.com. and Autodesk will send you a replacement.

That happened to us too, and our replacement copy is already on its way. You would think that a huge company like Autodesk would do some decent QA (Quality Assurance) testing before releasing a professional product.

we looked at ours yesterday (actually, i opened the box and decided to try to install it). I took it out and I thought it came out clean, and there was a loud noise, but i thought that that was just a new cd coming out of the case for the first time. When it went into the computer, though, it didn't register. I took it out again to look at it, and the cd had a nice craack all of the way through one side. SO ... we're hoping that the Autodesk people can send us another one quickly. grr...

To FIRST/Autodesk's credit, they sent a replacement CD that arrived within two days of our call to them. Hopefully this one won't break either :( For those who haven't run into this issue, I simply advise that you be extremely careful removing disks from the packaging, and not to force it.

Happened to team 971 also. I called AutoDesk immediately, (2 weeks ago) and we still haven't receive the replacement. I'm sending an email to the FIRST people tho, so that should help.
