Ok So it's been 11.5 months since we found out the hint for Triple Play, now what I'm wondering is, what exactly did last years hint mean?

While wearing Amethyst colored glasses, John Neun gave George Burns the following riddle: "Look closely and you will see something between Pi, You and Me."

Ok, let's break this down fragment by fragment:
While wearing Amethyst colored glasses:
The Crystal structure of Amethyst is Tetrahedral, the same shape of the commonly refered to Tetra
I'm also guessing that the purple sunglasses were popular in the 1960s, the 6 corresponding to the number of teams, that guess is pretty out there

John Neun gave George Burns the following riddle:
On May 31st, 1927, the Detroit Tigers’ first baseman, Johnny Neun read in the morning paper that Jimmy Cooney, the Chicago Cubs shortstop, had made it into the record books the day before by completing an unassisted three-way putout. That afternoon, Neun duplicated the feat. With runners on first and second, Neun snagged a line drive, getting the batter for out #1. Neun then stepped on first base to get a force on the runner who was just off first base for out #2. The runner at second was far off the bag and Neun, clearly with visions of a triple play in mind, ran over and tagged the runner before he could get back to second, completing the unassisted triple.
This one was probably solved first, it was one of the few triple plays recorded in baseball history, its the orgin of the game name, Triple play.

"Look closely and you will see something between Pi, You and Me.":
Ok I'm kinda confused on wear to go from here, What is Pi referring to? Is it telling us to look at the Tetrahedral shape of Amethyst?

Well I hope this helps us crack the 2006 game hint, through the analysis of the 05 hint.

According to Dave, you and me make 2, and pi is 3.14(....) so between those two numbers is 3, the number of teams on each aliance.

I thought Pi was also a baseball player who completed a triple play or something like that.

I remembered this post from the 2005 game hint thread and found it just now. It seems to cover everything.

Since Dave didn't cover the clue on the broadcast, I asked him afterwords about it. He smiled and said, "I guess that's something we forgot to cover, it seemed like I did that on purpose." Here are is explanations...

-the amethist clue- amethist's molecular structure is in the form of a tetra.
-george burns and john neun- the both did tripple plays, the name of this year's game.
-"If you look and you will see" pertains to the fact that the robots can see this year
-"Between Pi, You, Me."- Pi = 3.14ish, You and Me = 2, between 3.14 and 2 is 3, the number of teams in an alliance this year.
-"Something at the VA Science center reminded me about next year's game." - In an exhibit, there was a pendulum that swayed back and forth in the sand, the structure holding it up was a tetra.

So, perhaps the key to unlocking the 2006 clue, when and if it is released, is researching every questionable and/or suspicious word and fragment within the clue.

Last year's was pretty darn good. I went too far into my research (titles of songs on the album "Sargeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"). Perhaps I'll stay a bit closer to home this time around.

Then again, if the mastermind reads this, then he'll make the answer to the clue as far out as the research I did last year, which would then defeat the purpose of me changing my research and clue unlocking patterns. :ahh:

So, in that case, research is key. Just be careful. Game objects, player quantities, anything, will be fair game for encoding.

It seems as if the hints usually have a relation to the game but not nearly as much as we would have thought or hoped because afterwards we are always like "well, what did this part of the hint mean, I didn't see any reference to it in the game" or sometimes "oh, that's all it means." Does anyone agree? I think it would be a good idea if every part of the hint had a very in depth, but also very clear reference to a portion of the game.

Ironically when people look way too deep they sometimes get the right answer.

Example: George Burns and John Neun got their triple plays against Cleveland. What's Cleveland famous for? Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What's it shaped like? A pyramid. :p

The clues they give will never tell us the game. What it does is get us excited and thinking for kickoff. The maximum you could decrypt from the hint they gave us is 3 teams per side. Who would have thunk about tetrahedrons and making triple plays?

I dunno, maybe several people in this (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32010&highlight=2005+game+hint) thread. People like Corey Balint and after that several people ran with his idea.
Interesting stuff to read and be like, Wow how could we not have seen that coming! :D
