I just realized if you search Google for first, the FIRST home page is the top result. Not bad huh? I don't know how long it has been that way, but I thought that's pretty good to be top ranked like that.

If you search "high school robotics" FIRST is a sponsored link in the little blue box. (It is also the 10th link in the standings)

Google "first place" and see what comes up. ;)

Google's natural results are determined by result relevancy. It means that, when people search Google for "FIRST" or "FIRST Place," many of those people then click on links to www.usfirst.org. Google sees this and, as a result, ranks those results higher than others that see less traffic.

A great majority of search terms on Yahoo! for the month of November that included the word FIRST are not appropriate for these forums and thus, another reason why you'll see it ranked relatively high for such a generic term.

"FIRST Robotics" received 1200 searches on Yahoo! in November. I would be curious to see what percentage of referrals from Yahoo! that is.

Also, I'm curious who FIRST uses for their paid search advertising and how well it performs.

I'm curious who FIRST uses for their paid search advertising and how well it performs. They wont... or at least they shouldn't. see: Google Grants (http://www.google.com/grants/) ... they most likely got under that, and now that I think about it us teams should do it, or at least this site.

Oh, I hadn't realized that Google offered that service. If that's the case, they must be doing the advertising in-house. That may explain why it's pretty bad. :)

If ChiefDelphi any teams that qualify as non-profit are interested in doing this, I'd be happy to help with the accounts once they're set up, as my job is to maintain paid search accounts for our clients. I wonder if they'd be effective as a fundraising tool.

its been in the top for as long as I remember/have been in First. this is the third year at least... so no it doesn't have to do with a co-founder being at a national compitition, but I am sure it wouldn't hurt... I hope hes there this year, then I have a chance to meet him (assuming our team makes it)... who here thinks a job at google would be one of the best (as far as Software Engineering goes)? I am for one
