Kickoff is upon us and with it so is the wonderful KOP. I am just curious how your team organizes your KOP once you inventory it. Pics would be great but descriptions are fine.

My team has typically just left the parts in the boxes they came in until we need one out, so we know where it always is, and we don't have to search around the warehouse looking for a misplaced part.

We usually keep all the new stuff from the KOP in the boxes it came in. Our old KOP stuff is divided up into various boxes (motors, wheels, electronics, etc.) Keeping all the new stuff in the boxes they came in is easier because we know exactly where it is.

We inventory, then keep it all where it is.

We have a shelf devoted to parts including the KOP. It is organized into categories such as pneumatics and electronics.

That's the same thing that we do.

Those heavy plastic totes work well for keeping things somewhat under control especially when you're a veteran team like us and have parts going back several years. Those totes aren't cheap neither.

One of the things we do while we're inventorying the part is take digital photos of all the parts and put them in a notebook along with the description. It's a lot easier to ask someone if they know where something is if you can show them a picture as they generally don't relate to the name.

That's actually a pretty good idea, Tim

As for us right now, we just leave it in the box until we need it, but I want to do like what Rickertsen2 said his team does; with the shelves...I'm still awaiting our board's permission for that though (to drill holes in the wall) otherwise, we might use the stand up shelving system things (I dont know what they're called :S) or possibly a closet like thing (we can probably make one ourselves in our wood shop), but I am not too keen on those since we have VERY limited floor space

We look through the boxes and make sure everything is there, then we write the year that the part is from on it and put it bake in a box or on a table if it'll be needed soon.

On our second meeting after kickoff, it is the job of generally two or three people, to go through the kit, make sure we have it all, weigh the stuff like the pneumatics that we might use, and do things of that nature. When the kit is being inventoried by the people selected to inventory it, everyone else stays away to make sure that no parts are misplaced.
